Server Crashing
I have a RH 6.0 (don't laugh) server I've set up. Hooked to the test machine its fine, but when I put in on the 3 machine network it did a few weird things: 1: Changed my Main User Profile on MAchine #1 to what looks like a default profile. and When I login there no previous username in the Logon Box. (no windows Policies) 2: Crashes when Machine #2 of the machines logs in and is

Roaming profiles
I want to setup a linux box with samba as a file and print server for a LAN of 20 NT 4.0 SP3 workstations. I want the home direcotories to be on the server the clients to have roaming profiles. For this, do I have to make the linux box a domain controller? I want to avoid it if I can, because the domain control code in not on the production releases. I don't want to setup an NT server either.

ADS, winbind and clients UIDs
Hi people! We are deploying a new scenario for out University, mostly based in Samba. The purpose is the use of a single password for every service. But we have found a little problem. The ADS are a cluster of 3 Win2003 servers. The file servers are RHAS3.0, and all the clients are dual boot pc Win/Linux, and use winbind for authentication. The idea is to export the file to the Linux clients

how to build smbtorture using static linked libraries
Hello all: I am trying to build smbtorture using static linked libraries. The samba source code I have is samba-4.1.13 for configure, I did: waf configure --builtin-libraries=ALL for build, I did: waf build --targets=smbtorture (so that it only build target smbtorture) But, the waf build fails immediately. Then, I tried to only link with lib talloc and tevent statically, so I did: waf

Ethernet puzzle
So I just finished doing a fresh install of CentOS 6.3. The machine has three ethernet ports in it: one on the motherboard (VIA Rhine), and two add-on cards, an Intel Pro100 and an old SMC1255TX. When CentOS comes up, this is what I see in the dmesg output: # dmesg | grep eth e100 0000:00:08.0: eth0: addr 0xf6043000, irq 16, MAC addr 00:02:b3:be:02:87 eth1: ADMtek Comet rev 17

Back to eth shuffling ...
So I'm back to this problem. A quick run down of what the original problem was: I have a machine that I'm configuring to use kickstart to setup. It has two builtin ethernet ports (labeled ports 1 and 2) and I'm adding a third one on its PCIe bus. Originally I was using an r8169 clone a default kickstart always put it as eth0 with the builtin ones as eth1 and eth2 respectively. After

Roaming Profiles with win 98 - Doesn't work.
I would like to know if anybody on this list has managed to have a network of 98 clients running off a samba server, and had roaming profiles, i.e. people's settings follow them from machine to machine. I have done everything I find in the guides, and I have no idea why the machines create new local profiles. I've searched the net for documentation, example websites, etc, but it seems the

need roaming profile + local profile
Hi I've got a samba pdc set up but I've got a strange problem. Everything works fine I can login with the roaming profile BUT I also need a local profile, without the local profile he says that he cannot find the domain name. And the local profile has to be administrator or he doesn't remember my preferences of all my programs and settings. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Roaming profiles - exclude Application Data from roaming profile
Hello All, I have a problem with my roaming profiles where they are becoming too large due to the Thunderbird mail accounts (stored by default) in Application Data. What I would like to do is exclude this directory from being part of the roaming profile. How can I do this? Also, how hard is it to have some users not use a roaming profile but others continuing to use a roaming profile? We

upgrade 1.0.15 -> 2.1.7: MBOX index compatibility and performance
Hi, we just upgraded our mailserver from Dovecot 1.0.15 to Dovecot 2.1.7. We use MBOX format (due to legacy compatibility), system users, PAM+GSSAPI auth, filesystem quotas, and indexes located on a separate filesystem: mail_location = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=~/mail/INBOX:INDEX=/var/cache/dovecot/indexes/%16Hu/%u The 2.1.7 configuration files have been rewritten based on default templates

Logging in taking too long with roaming profile (not large profile issue)
Thus spake Nathan Ehresman (nehresma@css.tayloru.edu) [29/07/03 08:50]: > check out http://www.css.tayloru.edu/~nehresma/samba.html Check out the logs -- this is a completely different problem. Ed and I have been working on this for some time now, and while your solution wards off potential future problems, it doesn't fix the current problem. We're not having the typical 'My

cannot update roaming profile
Hi, I am using VMware to test Samba 3.0.0 (running in VMware) with Windows 2000 Server (running in VMware). My Samba 3.0.0 is running as PDC and I manage to configure Windows 2000 Server to join to Samba 3.0.0 but when I logoff from the domain, there is an error stating that it can't copy a particular file to \\Samba-pdc\profiles\user1\Application Data\VMware\filename.dat Regards, ro0ot

Roaming profile permissions questions
Hello, I would like to host our Terminal Services and Roaming Profiles on a Samba 3.0.2 server. I am able to have profiles created correctly for any user except those who are listed as 'admin users' - currently our Domain Admins group as '@DOMAIN-Domain Admins'. What happens is that a profile is created with the actual owner as root and an ACL entry for the actual user. For

roaming profile trouble
Maybe this is not the right place but i'm still having trouble with synchronisation. Samba 3.0.14 as pdc. I used gpedit.msc to tell the computer not to sync Documents ( i used the italian name Documenti, since my windowsxp is in italian ) on login/logout. I mapped documents using regedit on drive z: (i.e. the roaming profile on the samba server), but when i logout i have been still seeing

samba4 - windows 7+ partially synchronized roaming profile
Hi, I had searched long for the problem of only partially sync'd profiles on Windows 7/8 . Windows XP has worked fine. There was always the error "Your roaming profile is not synchronized correctly with the server. You have been logged in with a partially synchronized profile". The application protocol of windows told me that the file

roaming profile
Yes, it was maybe a sync trouble. But after some trying i realized it was not a good way for two reasons: At the end windows xp tried to sync the folders loosing as much time as with the usual roaming profile; Disabling the sync i used to loose something anyway. So now i'm looking up a new solution: activated the 'use only local profile' in the gpedit.msc config tool, so the client

Roaming Profiles - delete profile when logging off
PDC : RedHat 7.2 // Samba 2.2.4 RedHat rpm Clients : W2K SP1 Does anybody know how to get rid of the cached local profiles when logging off? Since we use FAT32 every user has access to other local replicated profiles. Furthermore sometimes the logon to the domain doesn?t work the first time after logon after a cold start. W2k claims it can not replicate/copy some files from the users profile and
