similar to: Samba password changes?

I would like to set up a small local network thru my router. I'm using Mandrake 8.2 and have Samba 2.2.3a installed. I would like to network to my main machine Windows 98. At present I don't have smbd running or nmbd. I don't see how to get them running. I'm a newbie so I have trouble getting around in shell. I'm trying to make athe switch from M$ to linux. Any help

Hello all!! I have partially achieved full single-signon, synched passwords with Samba 2.2.5 and OpenLDAP 2.0.25 on Mandrake 8.2. I can change my PDC password from a Win2K box and it synchs the Linux/Unix/LDAP password correctly. I can change my password from Linux using 'passwd' and it synchs the PDC password. Samba is the PDC, and uses LDAP as the smbpasswd backend. This all works

Hi, Recently I have installed samba 3.4.8 on my device. Since then ftp (vsftp,proftpd) which is taking users from samba database with pam_smbpass.so is not working. After enabling detailed log I have noticed it is looking for the passwords in smbpasswd (/etc/samba/private) which is of zero size .
