Roaming Profiles question
Can 9x/ME profiles be safely kept in the same place as NT/2K/XP
profiles? i.e., are they compatible, in that 9x settings can be used on
an NT based machine, and vice versa, with each OS knowing which
settings it can and can't use, or is it best to just keep them
separated?

How to make big MySQL database more diffable/rsyncable? (aka rsyncing big files)
Hello group,
I'm having a very hard time rsyncing efficiently a MySQL database which
contains very large binary blobs.
(Actually, it's the database of Mantis bug tracker
[http://www.mantisbt.org/], with file attachments stored directly in the
table rows. I know it's a bad idea from many other reasons, but let's
say it was given to me as such.)
First, I was dumping the

Samba 2.5 PDC + WinXP problem
Hey ppl !
My WinXP workstations are not able to join my domain. I tried to apply the registry fix for plain-text passwords but it has no effects :(
My PDC seems to work fine cause i've got no problems with Win2K Workstations...
Is there anything i've omitted ?

samba PDC profile issues with winxp and win9x
OK, I've tried to "read the fine material" and have read more than one reference and more than a few
months worth of threads in the archives, but I am still stumped with this issue.
When using logging on with Win9x, there is a profile error #4, and it complains that it was not able to open
or create a file in the \\regmain\[username]\.profile\Cookies folder on login and sign out.

XP troubles
I've recently recompiled and reinstalled the latest Samba because
the version I was running wouldn't talk to Windows XP.
It still won't. Can anyone direct me to any docs, howtos, or other
docs concerning WinXP problems?
Thanks...

2.2.3a - buggy homedir mapping with profiles for 9x/winxp
Hi @all,
I'm using version 2.2.3a (because the patch for printingproblems in
2.2.4 is not working for me) as a PDC for Win9x- and WinXP-Clients. I
want to set up different profile directories for Win9x and WinXP. This
seemed not a problem with
logon home = \\%N\%U\profile_9x_me
logon path = \\%N\%U\profile_nt_xp
I have a client with Win98 and WinXP on it. If I log on first with
WinXP and

Glances for CentOS 8?
It seems that glances is not in EPEL for CentOS 8. Is that coming at some
point, or has it been deprecated in favor of some other tool?

WinXP DFS problems, debugging with dfsutil.exe
Hello Johan,
I'm having the same problems with DFS and WinXP clients since I upgraded
to 2.2.8.
I tried to clear the cache on the client side with dfsutil.exe that
comes with the Win2000 SP2 but to no avail.
Can anyone else confirm this problem?
It's also strange that on the WinXP clients the version of the samba
server is still registered as a previous version (2.2.6 or 2.2.7).

Reading external files with dtrace
I''d like to be able to dynamically read external configuration files within a dtrace script. I know dtrace allows inclusion of C header files but only at the preprocessing stage.
What we need to do is dynamically enable/disable probes based on current application settings. I''d rather not have a bunch of independant scripts running and being started and killed whenever the

My Documents folder and roaming profiles.
Hi All,
I don't know whether here is the right place to ask as this question is
probably more Windows related than Samba related but I thought someone here
might have some ideas.
I've got a Samba 2.2.5 PDC (running on FreeBSD but that doesn't really
matter) serving Windows XP machines.
The roaming profiles are set to be stored in a different share to the users
home directory so

joing machines
Hi,
I have a samba 3.0 current CVS from 01/08 running with ldap as the backend. It been working fine for the past few week until late last week. I can join a machine to the domain and I get an entry in ldap one in ou=computers and one in ou=users (as normal). Everything looks fine until you try to login to the win2k box. When you hit enter after typing in username + passwd you get an error

[LLVMdev] Question about ARM/vfp/NEON code generation
Thanks, that helps a lot.

Just to confirm my understanding, can I correctly say in general that
the llc code generator might blur distinctions between NEON and VFP3
when it can do so

Joining a samba domain on WinXP without a root login?
I've been able to succesfully join XP boxes to the samba domain on samba
2.2.3a (yes, I know it's old), registering the machine name and so
forth, as many guides and so forth have shown online. However, it
requires entering root's smbpasswd when joining the domain -- and I'd
rather not have a Windows machine with any sort of remotely related root
access to our servers,

Ross: In addition to coming up with another slick way to fix this box,
which I truly appreciate, you came up with the below:

ACL support?
Is it still true that in order for a Linux hosted Samba server to have NT ACL
support, the Linux box must have an ACL aware file system such as XFS or
Andreas Gruenbacher's kernel patch ("POSIX ACL")? I read this in chapter 4 of
"Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours". In the time since that book was written,
has an easier method been developed, or has a

[LLVMdev] Question about ARM/vfp/NEON code generation
I have a code generation question for ARM with VFP and NEON.
I am generating code for the following function as a test:
void FloatingPointTest(float f1, float f2, float f3)
{
float f4 = f1 * f2;
if (f4 > f3)
printf("%f\n",f2);
else
printf("%f\n",f3);

I have tried compiling with:
1. -mfloat-abi=softfp and -mfpu=neon

Simplifying User Adding
I was wondering if there is a way Samba can use either the Windows domain or Unix usernames and passwords rather than having to have add another password.
We are running HPUX 11 samba 2.0.6 and whenever we have to add a new user (once or twice a month) we have to add them to the Windows domain, the Unix passwd file and then set them up in Samba for a password. is there a simpler way?
