username.map causes delays?
Hi, A user works on a Windows 2000 workstation with MS Visual C++. When he tries to open a file on a Samba share (Samba 2.2.2 on Sun/Solaris), Visual C++ hangs for about 10 seconds, then displays the file. At the same time, the following messages appear in log.smbd: [2002/09/26 12:21:27, 0] lib/debug.c:reopen_logs(337) Unable to open new log file /usr/local/samba/var/log.smbd: No such file or

Memory Leak in 2.2.6rc2??
We upgraded to 2.2.6rc2 yesterday to continue our resolving of the printer driver problems. (Thanks Jerry & Rohin) For unrelated reasons I wanted to log into the machine late last night and found Putty couldn't connect. When I get in this morning the server was completely hooped with Out of Memory errors on the screen with SMBD as the offending process. Trying to log into any console

WinXP-SP1 breaks profiles...
Just thought you'd like to know that SP1 for Windows XP breaks romaing profiles up to and including 2.2.5. This has been confirmed by MIT at the following link: http://web.mit.edu/swrt/winxp/ See the section "Software Compatiblity Test Matix/Testing SP1" We have found this to be the case as well.... I'm cross-posting this to samba-technical as well....we will work on some

Printer settings on 2.2.5
Hello. We are using a Samba 2.2.5 as a PDC on a Debian GNU/Linux server. This server also handles a few printers, through LPRng. On the Unix side, no problem (duplex, simplex, short-duplex), everything works fine. I followed the instructions from the howto collection "Printing Support in Samba 2.2.x" to make these printers available on Samba. Most of the described procedure worked

printer permissions
A stupid question. With new printing system (spoolss) how people restrict access to the printers ? It was clear with the old system when each printer was in a separate share. I could assign a list of valid users for each printer share. TIA. -- Yuri Pismerov, Sr. System Administrator, TUCOWS.COM INC. (416) 535-0123 ext. 1352

Win2k Printer Woes Continue
I installed the printer patch on 2.2.4 on my Linux 7.3 box, reconfigured it (I think I did things in the correct order:configure, make realclean, run patch,configure,make,sh.makerpms.sh), created a new rpm, uninstalled the old samba, reinstalled the new rpm, fixed the conf files, reloaded samba and now my printers appear as "HPLASERJET on _smbserver". HPLASERJET is queue name which is

2.2.6pre2 (and previous?) "tiny bug" with "log file" attribute
Hi, I never thought I would need to change the default log file path, but I had and found a bug. When changing my default "log file" from /usr/local/samba/var/log.%m to /usr/local/samba/var/log/log.%m there are always files created in the "default compiled" log directory /usr/local/samba/var when nmbd and smbd start. The following ls are right after doing a

2.2.6-1 src rpm
I'm trying to get the 2.2.6-1 src rpm for RH 7.x from samba.org compiled on RH 8.0. I built it as root with this command rpmbuild --rebuild --target i686 samba-2.2.6-1.src.rpm. Trying to install the built RPM (no errors in the build process) results in these unmet dependencies: # rpm -Uvh samba-2.2.6-1.i686.rpm error: Failed dependencies: perl(fix_print_html.lib) is needed by

New HP Printer Drivers wont upload (samba 3.0.11)
Maybe there's a trivial solution to this, but it's confused the hell out of me. I'm trying to upload the latest Windows XP PCL6 driver for our Laserjet 4250TN to my Samba 3.0.11 server. It works, and uploads the driver files, but then at the end it produces an error on the XP client "the operation could not be completed". The logs on the samba server state:

Documentation / boolean fix for oplocks = command
In the documentation the "oplocks = yes" option is give in an example, as the default for this parameter. However, I needed to turn oplocks off, and so assumed that the command "oplocks = no" would work. It doesn't, instead I found that "oplocks = false" does. There needs to be some boolean fixing done, or at least documentation should reflect this strangeness.

Printer Management
Correct me if I'm wrong. With Samba 2.2.5, there is no way to get a group of users to manage printers so they be able to select/deselect duplex mode, tray, etc. Although I'm able to add a group with the Security tab and give them appropriate permissions, it doe not work from the user side - all the settings are still grayed out. P.S. I use LDAP backend if that matters. -- Yuri

losing print driver associations on reboot
Hello all, I've got a strange problem with Samba 2.2.4. I'm able to associate print drivers to printers (raw queue in cups). My clients are able to see that the drivers belong to the printers, and they download them, but as soon as the server reboots, I lose my driver associations and I need to once again specify a driver on the windows end. The Print server was an upgrade from Samba

Hi, I've been unable to get samba to work with ldap over ssl or tls on a solaris 9 machine. I thought that the ldap in solaris 9 supports tls natively now. However I still get the error in my log file : > [2002/09/02 16:35:10, 0] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:ldap_open_connection(202) > ldap_open_connection: Secure connection not supported by LDAP client > libraries! > [2002/09/02
