Anti hang comments
Some feedback. I'd been having trouble with rsync hanging or early EOF timeouts. Problem occurred on 2 identical receiving machines. I upgraded from Linux kernel 2.4.2 (RH 7.1) to 2.4.7 on the receiving machines. Sender machines are standard Linux RH 6.1 and RH 6.2 kernel.. Receiving machines are Duron 900Mhz 256 Mb software-raid1 ext2 2x40Gb. This improved the situation but still gave

samba, pdc, ldap question
I have a question for those of you out there. I work at a university where we already have our ldap systems in place and use them for almost all authentication. I would like to implement a samba file server that authenticates of our existing ldap server. Would the best solution be to have samba authticate off of ldap through pam. Is this even available. Can anyone point me in the right

Painless Guide to installing RMagick on Mac OS Tiger
Hey all, I''ve been struggling with RMagick installation each time I setup a new computer and never found a tutorial that just worked. So I put one up, and tested on freshly installed Mac OS Tiger. http://digg.com/software/A_Simple_Guide_to_Installing_RMagick_for_Ruby_on_Rails_on_Mac_OS_X I hope this saves you some time! -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Painless migration from 2.2.x on old server to 3.0.x on new server needed ASAP
I need to painlessly migrate on old Samba 2.2.x installation to a new server running 3.0.x (3.0.14a for now). Time is of the essence as a hardware problem is causing intermittent operation of the old server that seems to be getting worse (actually it is looking doubtful that it will be back up at this point). I do have a backup of the smb.conf, the Samba .tdb files, /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow.

Conflict between NT-PDC and Samba 2.0.6
I've got a Solaris 2.6 SPARC system running Samba 2.0.6 and an NT-4.0sp5 PDC system. If Samba is running on the Sun system when the NT PDC is rebooted it (the NT system) complains that there is already another PDC in the domain. This should not be as far as I can see as I've tried specifically to configure the Samba systems not to do this and in fact prior to upgrading to Samba version

Problem installing/loading packages from Africa
I'm very new to R and I live in Mali, west Africa. I'm on *OS X 10.7.5*. I downloaded and installed *R 3.2.1*. I downloaded and installed *RStudio 00.99.893*. I ran through the free Microsoft data camp intro to R course, then started another free course through 'edX', for Data and Statistics for Life Sciences, using R. The first prompt in the course is to

backport upstream pygrub fixes to allow booting squeeze default install?
Hi Bastian, I'd like to propose backporting the following changesets from upstream xen-unstable into the xen-3 package. With these it is possible to boot a default installation of Squeeze (using d-i) in a domU using pygrub. 20480:c2c2e67b8198 pygrub: if default entry is "saved" then use first entry. 20481:8f4e0adc2b3b pygrub: expands tabs before displaying menus. 20485:086a6a0c3f37

dfree (Samba 2.0.7)
I'm useing Samba (2.0.7) on an Compaq TRUE64 (Digital OSF) Server. Everything is working fine, but the dfree-script does not work. I think it's not even called. The corosponding entry in my smb.conf is: [global] server string = Samba %v Server, xxxx workgroup = xxxx keep alive = 30 dead time = 15 dfree command = /usr/local/samba/bin/dfree The script it self works fine

Wierd timestamp problem
Greetings, We found out today that rsync has been missing some files. Here is the senerio: We have two nfs servers in different datacenters, one being the backup to the other. We want to keep them up to date so we use rsync inside crontabs. We have Solaris, AIX, True64 and VMS systems reading and writing to the nfs drives. I am running rsync on Solaris 8 servers. What

ext3 problem with loop devices?
Hello, it seems I am having a problem with loop mounting on ext3. I am doing this: - make an ext2 filesystem in a file - loop mount this file - write into the loop mounted file system - umount the file Sometimes this works; occasionally the file remains empty after the umount. A sync before the umount seems to help. Is this a known problem? Thanks, Andreas.

Samba 2.2 alpha3 released
Hi all, I have just released the fourth alpha snapshot of what will become Samba 2.2.0. It's available from the usual ftp sites, in the alpha directory as : <ftp mirror>:/pub/samba/alpha/samba-2.2.0-alpha3.tar.gz If people could test this snapshot out and provide feedback about what is broken and let the lists know that would help. The problem acting as a PDC for

Solaris wtmp/wtmpx handling
It appears to be a pervasive assumption in the Portable OpenSSH code that wtmp and wtmpx records for the end of a session do not need to include the user name or hostname. Unfortunately Solaris appears not to go along with that assumption; the Solaris "last" command shows all login sessions initiated by OpenSSH as never terminating, or sometimes terminating with the user's next
