(Locking?) problem with Samba 2.2.2, Win2kSP2
Hi all,
I have the following problem.
A Linux (2.2.19) machine is running Samba 2.2.2 as a PDC. The clients
are Win2K SP2. A user accesses several Excel 2000 files on a share. This
sometimes results in long(ish) delays (the user reports around 10 seconds,
although this could be longer) and the message from Excel that the file
is in use and can only be read. After closing and re-opening the file,

stupid user tricks with ices2: "No such file or directory" :P
Michael and Karl,
Thanks for your replies.
Sorry for confusing you with bad test info. The contents of
playlist.txtthat I referred to in my earlier email did not match the
log result I
specified. However, I had ran the test with both a full and relative path in
playlist.txt; "/home/john/Visitors.ogg" and "Visitors.ogg".
Got it working, however. Tried playing a different ogg

stupid user tricks with ices2: "No such file or directory" :P
I must be doing something really stupid.
I've read the docs for icecast2 and ices2. Icecast2 is running fine; I can
get stats.xml and see that it is running.
When I run ices2, I get the following error in ices.log:

3.0.4 on Solaris 8 - fcntl(F_SETLK64)
We upgraded from 2.2.5 to 3.0.4 last week and ever since have been running
into a deadlock condition that causes clients to hang for extended
periods; all trying to get a write lock on locking.tdb. I have been
dilligently googling to find the solution and have thus far been
unsuccessful. My kernel rev is 108528-29, so I think I'm ok there. Does
anyone have any ideas?

new CentOS 5 as DNS server
Hi folks,
As a breather from the
"thread-now-wider-than-my-headers-window-in-thunderbird" conversation
re: mixing repos, I have a question regarding a machine I'm about to put
online. :)
I run a web hosting company and my secondary (primary to the world) DNS
box died from a massive rootkit/hack last night. It was running an old
Slackware 9.1 installation and I will be completely

Windows2000SP2/Word2000 slow printing

Symptoms:
Word2000 "hangs"/ takes ages(minutes) to open document apparently due
to doing something with default printer???
relevent smbd process on server runs up to 50-60% and stops there
for several minutes.
Oplocks seem to be created on downloadable driver files when printer is
accessed

samba synchronization of browse lists.
Hello,
I just installed samba 2.2.3a on my FreeBSD 4.4 box and am trying to
connect to it using my win2ksp2 machine. I've got it set up to be the
local master browser in my workgroup for my internal network. However
it's not working. I checked the logs and in log.nmbd it's trying to bind
to a domain master browser for the browse lists, which i obviously don't
have. Is this a new

Samba 2.2.3a and password expiration?
One of my users complained that his Win2kSP2 complains that his password
Is going to expire in 8 days.
A while ago we changed from Win2k domain to a Samba 2.2.3a controlled domain.
How do I disable the password expiration? I read the man pages and searched
Google but couldn't find any hints about the issue. It almos seems like this
expiration thing should not be happening at all...?

Simple Fax question
Strange things.
When I run the RxFAX command through an internally dialed extension, I
can *hear* fax tones, meaning, I presume, that the RxFAX application is
running. In fact, doing a show application confirms that. So, I'm
presuming RxFAX application is talking as it should.
However, inbound fax calls (tones) are not being detected. I know that
my extensions file is corect. I am

Reading a tab delimitted text
Dear group,
I have a tab delimitted text file with 21 column and
1988 rows. When I read the file:
D1 <-
read.table(file="gist_data1.txt",sep="\t",header=T)
> dim(D1)
[1] 1811 20
It reads only 1811 rows from that file.
I saved this file as CSV file and I read it again
using:

RJDBC and multiple classpaths
Corect me if this is not the right place to post this.
I have a mdbdriver.jar (to access an MSAccess file) under Linux. I bought
the license from http://www.csv-jdbc.com/ guys. The driver work fine when
tested with DBVisualizer or another JDBC thing.
The problem is that driver needs 3 other more jar files to work. Under R I
have tried this and does not work:

samba3.0.0rc1 - Problems managing groups with UsrMgr
Dear list,
I have two problems managing groups from Win2kSP2 client using UserManager
for domains.
My Linux user and groups are stored in OpenLDAP using pam_ldap+nss_ldap from Padl.
Due to the fact that the groups using the ou=Group organizationalUnit, I have set
in smb.conf the "ldap group suffix = ou=Group" (using ldapsam as passdb backend).
So the Linux group and the
