XFS-ACL-Samba: Trouble adding acls
Hi,
I recently tried to use ACLs with samba. XFS is running, I can set ACLs
using setfacl and read them with getfacl, no problem so far. Samba
compiled fine with '--with-acl-support'.
Now I set up a share with 'nt acl support = yes', put there a file and
added an acl with 'setfacl':
root@edjo[ACLTEST]# getfacl datei.txt

List of magic wins numbers
Hi,
I am looking for a list of theses special magic numbers that a samba
server (or a windows box) registers with at a wins server.
I already know of <00> as a ordinary name, <1b> as a domain. But what's
the rest? Is there a list anywhere? Perhaps somewhere in the docs? I
have searched them but haven't found anything yet.
Thanks,
Christopher

NT4 WINS Server forgets samba servers
Hi,
I do not know whether this is a samba problem or an NT feature, but it
seems only to occur with samba boxes, so it could be samba's fault:
The NT PDC (moritz) runs also the WINS server. It regularly forgets the
IP addresses of our samba servers:
# nmblookup -U moritz -R hni-gate
querying hni-gate on 131.234.166.19
name_query failed to find name hni-gate
I then just have to stop and

Hello,
I would like to upgrade my samba version 2.2.1a to 2.2.5!!
Well I am trying to find a rpm for SuSE 7.3, but was not

Also, first I do not want to compile by my self.
Does any body know where to get such rpm??
If not, I cannot find the ./configure arguments for samba 2.2.5 in

2.2.0alpha3: Still trouble with document defaults
Hi,
I have already posted several times a message about my printing troubles
with document defaults concerning samba 2.2.0alpha2. I now tried alpha3
but the problem still remains:
I can install a printer driver on the samba server without any trouble.
Setting document defaults (Page Size, duplexer installed) seems to work,
the setting are saved (somewhere). But applications don't care of

Samba PDC and Passwords
Hi everybody,
I have a dilemma here about the user accounts.
We have all the accounts at a NIS server. My samba PDC is another machine
(different from the NIS server). What are my options for managing the
accounts?
1) Central management (LDAP)
2) Keep different password files (passwd/smbpasswd)
Are there any different options??
If I use the second option (2 - keep different password files),

problem connecting to Samba server from windows XP
I run Samba 2.2.8 on my Red Hat 9.
Both smbd and nmbd are running OK. ps -aux | grep mbd
shows the 2 processes, plus, smbclient works fine,
thanks to Christopher.
The Samba server resides on a host with IP 10.10.6.31.
I got this from the smbclient run below:

samba-3.0.0rc4 && acl-support
Hi !
I?m currently testing samba-3.0.0rc4 as a pdc with acl-support.
The box runs with debian-linux and a xfs-enabled 2.4.22-kernel.
I have defined a share which is located on a xfs-partition.
(changing acls with setfacl works well)
I activated the flag : nt acl support = yes
If I now try to change acls, i can open the win2k-acl-dialoge -

Hi,
I'm using debian woody with samba (2.2.3a-12.3). After installing
2.2.8a everything that worked, still works. What didn't work, still
doesn't work.
Sharing files works properly.
I'd like to share a printer via the samba server. When I go to the
printers&faxes share in explorer, no printers are shown.
Hereunder is my smb.conf, /etc/lprng/printcap, and the logfile

How to get rid of the \\my_server\homes share?
Hello all,
Samba 3.0.1 on Sun Solaris 5.9.
I'm seeing both a share \\my_server\homes and a share
\\my_server\<username>.
For example:
\\my_server\homes
\\my_server\doejohn
Or:
\\my_server\homes
\\my_server\doejane
Both point to the home dir /export/home/doejane of user doejane.
I want to get rid of the \\my_server\homes share and - in this case - only
want \\my_server\doejane to

smbclient: invalid mid from server! ???
Hi,
our backup program regularly invokes smbclient to generate a tar-file
from an NT-Workstation share. What it does is
/usr/samba/bin/smbclient \\\\maclaurin\\maclaurin password -U backup -E -W MATH -d3 -Tc - > maclaurin.tar
Now this is the output:
