Hi, our backup program regularly invokes smbclient to generate a tar-file from an NT-Workstation share. What it does is /usr/samba/bin/smbclient \\\\maclaurin\\maclaurin password -U backup -E -W MATH -d3 -Tc - > maclaurin.tar Now this is the output: Client started (version 2.0.6). resolve_lmhosts: Attempting lmhosts lookup for name maclaurin<0x20> resolve_hosts: Attempting host lookup for name maclaurin<0x20> Connecting to 131.234.114.34 at port 139 Password: Domain=[MATH] OS=[Windows NT 4.0] Server=[NT LAN Manager 4.0] received 3 entries (eos=1 resume=0) directory \user\ received 6 entries (eos=1 resume=0) directory \user\Dellnitz\ received 18 entries (eos=1 resume=0) dos_clean_name [\user\Dellnitz\Antritt.ppt] file \user\Dellnitz\Antritt.ppt attrib 0x80 getting file \user\Dellnitz\Antritt.ppt of size 9385472 bytes as a tar file Antritt.pptnread=0 [...] nread=9303840 nread=9369360 9385472 ( 2355.0 kb/s) \user\Dellnitz\Antritt.ppt (2354.96 kb/s) (average 2354.96 kb/s) dos_clean_name [\user\Dellnitz\Bonn.ppt] code 0 opening remote file \user\Dellnitz\Bonn.ppt (\user\Dellnitz\) dos_clean_name [\user\Dellnitz\Bonn_2.ppt] file \user\Dellnitz\Bonn_2.ppt attrib 0x80 getting file \user\Dellnitz\Bonn_2.ppt of size 19555840 bytes as a tar file Bonn_2.pptnread=0 nread=65520 nread=131040 [...] nread=982800 nread=1044240 invalid mid from server! Here it stops and does nothing more. The created tar file is corrupt. Where is the problem? Is it samba or the NT box? May it be a specific file that causes the trouble? If I connect with smbclient manually I can get the file above without any problems. But a 'tar c file.tar' in the specified directory does not go through. Any help? I am not subscribed, so please respond directly to me.
