samba domeinlogon
Hi, I'm using Unix now for the last 2 years, so I'm learning everyday new things. Now I'm trying to configure Samba 2.2.5 (on Freebsd 4.4) so that w2k machines can logon to the domain. I added several users to smbpasswd (which are real users on the server. I would like to have "virtual users" which don't have a real account but that's an other problem) In several

Setting up a Samba PDC to server XP pro clients

storing profiles on a 3rd host (NetApp), and [profiles] section of smb.conf

How do I make sure that owner & permissions don't get set to root on certain profile files when the user profile is migrated to the PDC 'logon path' area? -------------------------------------------------------- I've set out to move our Windows PCs into a samba PDC domain, and my first profile

Samba 3.05 pdc
I'm trying to connect a Windows 2000 workstation to my samba pdc domain. I have followed all the steps in the documentation to setup samba as a pdc, but I have not been able to connect any workstations to the domain. Does anyone have a example smb.conf file I can compare with mine. I checked the "log.smbd" and I'm getting the following messages when I tried to add a computer

Office 2007 saves files as read only on samba shares?
I've been running the same configuration for a couple of years now, and since I've upgraded to Office 2007, MS Word and MS Excel files save to my samba shares as -r-------- even when they are opened as being chmod 777. Files I create/edit using other editors or windows explorer are put onto the share with the correct permissions. My conf looks like this: [global] workgroup = WG

Automate FreeBSD to allow me to add machines to a domain the same way Windows lets you do it from the workstation. 2. Add user accounts which incorporate '$' without having to create a

Access denied to samba server from win7 64bit behind a VPN
Hi, I have a problem of Access denied to samba server from win7 64bit behind a VPN. the samba server is 3.2.5-4 release on a debian lenny (I will upgrade it soon), member of a win2K AD domain. the win7 PCs are on the same AD domain, they can access to an other samba server witch is very similar (same release, same smb.conf, same VPN config). Help with ADS authentication and Samba
Hi there, just recently joined this list as I seem to be having a little trouble that I am hoping someone can help with. I recently installed a RHEL5.5 server and updated samba to samba3-3.4.11-42.el5.x86_64.rpm. I had never set up samba to authenticate with ADS so I read a little bit and dove right in. The server now works fine, so when I browse to \\machinename<file:///\\machinename> no

Creating maching trust accounts
Hello, I have created a machine trust account with the following command 'pdbedit -a -m -u machinename' and I noticed that after I execute the following command 'pdbedit -L -v -u machinename', the Unix username is in lowercase letters? Because when I attempt to join a domain with a Windows 8.1 machine, it emits a error that it can't find the Machine account? Does it
