Hello - I have had a good look on this newsgroup - and what I've picked up I
think is allowing me to ask
these questions more intelligently. I've also had a good look at the CUPS
documentation aswell as the
Samba documentation.

Printer download - NOT WORKING
Hi,
I played around with samba 2.2.5 and cups and tried
to get it working. Well everything is fine, but the driver upload to the
client WILL NOT WORK.
I used the current stable downloads, latest patch for printing, prebuilds
from Lars Mueller ....
I put together everything.
If one has a working samba//cups please tar it
and place it on our ftp-server.
I don't know what's wrong here

Difficulty with Samba 2.2.8 and native CUPS PS drivers
I've recently attempted to convert from the Adobe PostScript drivers for my
Canon BJC=2110 printer over to the native CUPS Windows PS drivers and can't
quite get things to work correctly. After deleting the printer on my
WinXP SP1 clients, verifying under "Server Properties" that the Adobe driver
was removed, then reconnecting to my Samba printer, I connect fine but receive

AW: Printer download - NOT WORKING
Well, you haven't told us your version of cups. I had the same problem using
cups-1.14.x, upgraded to 1.15.x and the problem is gone.

2 quest.: cups - samba and ACL under HPUX
Hi,
I have tried to use cups and samba together. Everything works
great, however I am not able to configure and/or setup
samba correctly, that the clients are able to install
the driver.
To test everything I used a dedicated system installed
a fresh SuSE 8.0 and compiled samba (2.2.4) and
cups (1.1.14). I only userd a differnet prefix for
samba. Everything else is default.

cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all,
I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and
cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to
add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having
difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use.
I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot
find the PPD file... where is

Slow windows -> cups print - CONCLUSION
Hi list,
I've just figured it out.
When we're installing the drivers from adobe there's a part where we must
"Select the Printer Model". By default it uses the "Generic Postscript Printer"
(it has an associated PPD for that). We must get a PPD for our printer
(installed on the linux server) from the www.linuxprinting.org, click the
"Browse" button and

connect to a Samba printer and use local driver (use client driver = yes)
Hi,
I'm having trouble doing what should apparently be quite simple: I want my Samba host to share a locally-attached usb printer and I want Windows clients to connect to this printer WITHOUT asking the user to select an appropriate driver since it should already be installed in the client's system.
On the Windows client, "printer control panel" -> "File" ->

Problem installing Printer-Drivers (solved)
This is just a information in case somebody runs into the same issue:
I was unable to upload drivers to a samba-server (3.0.28a and 3.0.29) via the windows add printer wizard. The driver files started uploading, then processing stopped saying the driver is not compatible to windows xp.
In the logs the following message popped up. However some files could be copied:

RH9, Samba 2.2.8a and printing with CUPS
Hi there
I just installed the above mentioned system and try to print from a W2k box to the Samba box but nothing happens. There's no problem in printing from the RH box or via Webmin but when I try to print from the W2k box nothing happens. I don't get an error or anything.
I installed the printer by the help of the add printer tool in RH, and simply go to the Printer--->Add

strange anomaly/bug with cupsaddsmb and 64bit drivers
This is probably a CUPS bug but maybe not, I'll mention it here just in case.
When using cupsaddsmb to install 64bit drivers the drivers must be in
the (maybe distro/configure dependent):
/usr/share/cups/drivers/x64
to be sure that's "x64" with a lower case "x". The cupsaddsmb app
ignores the drivers if the subdirectory is named with an uppercase "X"
(X64).

adding a printer to samba via cupsaddsmb
I'm trying to add a printer to Samba 2.2.4, using the cupsaddsmb tool
provided with CUPS. cupsaddsmb basically invokes samba's rpcclient
program.. The driver part installs fine using cupsaddsmb, but addprinter
always fails for some reason. This is what cupsaddsmb returns, does
anybody have any idea as to what is wrong?? If I invoke rpcclient
manually with a debug level of 10, it goes

cupsaddsmb / rpcclient problems ...
Hi,
I'm having a strange problem with cupsaddsmb ... it fails whenever I
try to use it while using the rpcclient command ... the "addriver"
command just fails (like below). Does anyone know what is wrong with
the command cupsaddsmb is passing to rpcclient? Adding drivers
through the windows point and print works fine ... this is samba
2.2.8a, Windows PDC. As far as I can tell,
