Paul, I don't know if this helps but I'm running RH7.2 on ext3 with Samba 2.2.1a & Quotas, I haven't heard any users complain yet, (300 total users). It appears that i cant use this anyway as it only works on Linux at the moment and i'm using Solaris (Is this correct?). I have now removed winbindd my configuration. It's me again, with the solution to my problems. To get a working BDC, you have to kill samba, delete your secrets.tdb, create a MACHINE.SID and then restart samba. You will have to do this on the PDC and the BDC to have the same SID the the secrets.tdb file. To Solaris admins.... Here's a patch for 2.2.4 for building on Solaris using GCC. You'll need to rerun autoconf after applying.... FYI.... There is a bu in the configure script for 2.2.5 that prevents the script from locating the start_tls function in the OpenLDAP 2.0.x libs. Apply this patch and rerun autoconf. Should fix it.
