uid transition and post-auth privsep (WAS Re: possible fundamental problem with tru64 patch) (fwd)
What do we loose by not having post-auth privsep?
What code is executed between authorization and actual setting of the
effective uid?

[OOPS!]Sexy Little Number :-)-O
Ok, I give up: what's that supposed to look like?
I tried to replace makeNstr with paste(rep(..)) but got garbage.
(my own fault: I still like 10.3.9, so can't install a new enough
version of R to install the Hmisc package)

Is there a sexy way ...?
Admit it, Rolf. Haven't you wondered if S, in a more private way, is sexier than R?
OK, kidding aside, we have talked this to death.
Just FYI, the conversation was stimulating for some of us and I have continued on my own and located functions I see as useful in the stringi and stringr packages to make my silly version ever less silly! LOL!

aastra 480i configuration help
I'm having problems getting my aastra 480i to register with the asterisk
server. I can inititate calls from the phone, but >sip show peers does not
show any IP address registered for this phone. I am probably missing
something stupidly simple. Anyone have an example config to share or
corrections for my configuration?

Hi Rolf,
this topic is probably already saturated, but here is a tidyverse solution:
```
library(purrr)
x <- list(
? `1` = c(7, 13, 1, 4, 10),
? `2` = c(2, 5,? 14, 8, 11),
? `3` = c(6, 9, 15, 12, 3)
)
x |>
? pmap(~ c(..1, ..2, ..3)) |>
? reduce(c)
#> [1]? 7? 2? 6 13? 5? 9? 1 14 15? 4? 8 12 10 11? 3
```
Here, we map over the elements of the list in parallel (hence pmap),

ogg "chapters"?
i'm thinking about albums like "dark side of the moon" and also live bands
(especially live-pa) and DJs where there's a continuous flow from one song
to the next...
i could use a MKV file with vorbis or mp3 and include a chapter listing
[with named chapters], that would allow listening to the whole thing with
no skipping between songs. at the same time, a listener can skip

I don't disagree with the nomination -- thank you, Duncan!
However, please note that I'm sure Rolf's was challenged /
question was ment to work correctly for all factors `f` with

Sorry to append, but I just realised that of course
```
x |>
? pmap(c) |>
? reduce(c) |>
? unname()
```
also works and is a general solution in case your list has more than
three elements. Here, we map in parallel over all elements of the list,
always combining the current set of elements into a vector, and then
reduce the resulting list into a vector by combining the elements

Calum,
I know Rolf for a while so I will not accept any calumny about his intentions. He stated what he wanted, albeit imperfectly, and interacted with us as we came up with ideas.
I have seen others who ask some open-ended question, often using a brand new idea, and do not interact. Some rumors have it that there may be motives ranging from wasting everyone?s time to gathering the best

Isolating rails model specs from their implementation
I''m currently taking a Rails project management app I built when
learning Rails and adding specs to it. During the course of building
the app the requirement that project should be archiveable was added.
So a project is in one of two states active or archived.
This led to the creation of the following methods:
Project.active_projects
Project.archived_projects
@project.active?
