hangin when listing named pipes
Hi Even when you are not opening the pipe, but just listing it in cygwin, or trying to see the properties in explorer, you will have this problem: Does anybody know how to disable named pipes in samba? Or how you can kill the connection from the client side? And no, setting "nt pipe support" to no, doesn't fix the problem. /Kaj Symptom: Samba daemon hanging when trying to open

samba, win98, and browse list problem.
Hello, Here's a repost on my message of a few days ago, for reasons that I'm not sure if it went through. If it did, my apologies, all suggestions welcome. I'm having an identical problem on slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd 3.4-release and windows 98-2, with sp1, and samba 2.05 and 2.06, depending on which system I've got up. Whenever I restart samba for whatever reason, making a

[newbie]: Samba as a server for Win98 PCs
Hello I do apologize for sending a newbie question but I need to know for sure if what I am planning is worth spending the time. I have 12 Win98 PCs with public IPs connected to the Internet. I want: 1) Turn one of the PCs to a linux box with samba. 2) That the linux PC provides login access to the other PCs. (I want to eliminate the possibility of the users log in a Win98 PC and wreck

win98 access to samba
TWIMC, I have a situation in which I can access my samba servers with win95 machines but not win98 PCs. When I double click on the server using the browse list under win98, it prompts me for a password to access //SERVER_NAME/IPC$ but denies me access after entering the password. I get accepted with no problem at this prompt with win95. I compiled with the defaults and shared the

error message in smbd.log file: bind failed on port 139 socket_addr = 0.0.0.0.
I can run nmbd successfully, but smbd dies almost immediately when I run it, the smbd.log file has the message "bind failed on port 139 socket_addr = 0.0.0.0.". When I do a netstat -an | grep 139, it shows that tcp is listening on port 139. How do I resolve this conflict between tcp and smbd?

cross subnet browsing (win Xp problem)
I've got to networks connected through leased line, routing set between networks, WINS server running on Samba. There's one primary samba server, and Win98/WinXP clients connected to it. First network with samba server works great with win98 and winxp. Second network also works ok with win98 clients, but when I connect Winxp it can't even open "my network places" and show

Running a login script
Hello all, We are trying to find a way to run login scripts for our users but all the How-To files seem rather complicated :-( We have been using Samba for several years and all our users have Windows 2000 PCs, Samba accounts etc. They log into their Windows with a username/password OK. The Samba server is set up with the same username/password combination as their PCs so they don't have

Win98 and Samba
Has any tried to connect to a samba server while using Win98 beta 2 as a client? I keep getting incorrect username/password errors in the samba log file and am unable to either map a drive or connect to a shared resource. With debug level set to 4 on the samba serve the main error seems to be error in packet at line 129 for cmd=117 (or something like that). If anyone else finds a fix for this,

Some problems with samba 2.0.7
Hi, we are using samba 2.0.7. on our HP file-server. For the NT users everything is ok, but we are not able to setup WIN95/98 computers to use the shares. All computers are within the same domain. Shares of NT-pc can be used and also shares from other linux boxe, but NOT from the HP. The global section is the same on the linux and HP machines. Any idea ? How can we check what is going wrong ? How do I create a globally accessible directory [partly solved] (XP works/98 doesn't)
I just want a simple, globally accessible directory for anyone on my LAN. I don't care who they are, who they're logged in as on their windows machine, I don't care about security (it's my own private LAN!!!). Why is this so difficult to do? I've looked through the archives (which by the way, could someone spend a few minutes and put a SEARCH feature there. Following threads

Windows XP slow with samba-2.2.7 from RH7.3
Hi. I posted last week a question about a network with some XP PCs. One PC connects fine to the samba server, but the other one is quite slow, almost unusable. There are also Win98 hosts running fine. Someone kindly answered he had the same problem, and solved it upgrading to samba-3 beta. I can't put beta software on this server. Do I have any other option ? Here is an extract of the
