authenticating to Win2000 server
[I saw this question once in the list archives, but no answer, so
I'll repeat as it is my current problem.]
Samba version 2.0.7, Solaris 8
Solaris box is a member of domain A. Domain A's PDC trusts domains B
and C, can authenticate passwords of users in those domains.
Domain B has an NT4 PDC.
Domain C has a Win2000 PDC.
Password authentication works on the Solaris box for domain B

smbclient -> winpop -> win2000
Hello List,
i want to send messages (information on incomming calls) from
my linux box to my win2000 workstation. For this i use
echo "hell0" |smbclient -M win2000 -I 192.168.0.3
the problem ist that the message appears about 10 seconds
later, a little to late for a call )-: .
The reason for that is the behaviour of smbclient together

Samba PDC & Win2000
I found out, that the reason Win2000 clients could not connect to Samba,
was because Win2000 uses an unknown uid to log the machine on the samba
domain.
Which uid do Win2000 use? Right now, I have set "Restrict Anonymous =
False" to permit Win2000 clients to connect.
Previously I have used some scripts to add network drives etc. in netlogon.
Win2000 do not seem to call these scripts.

path to long in samba-2.2.5
Hello.
I have a problem with samba-2.2.5 and Win2000. I try to copy a file onto my
home share and the explorer takes a long time to copy the file. After a
while (ca. 30 seconds) there comes an error-box: path is to long (Der Pfad
ist zu lang.)
The error just gives me an OK-button. The files is correctly transmitted. I
checked it, but if takes a very long time and there comes the error-message.

Problem : Samba 3.0.2a as PDC with Win2000 Pro
Hi, all....
Honestly I'm a newbie in Linux. For a couple days,
I've been trying to build my own PDC server.
I've got enough manual resource for guidance, but
somehow, untill now I can't log my Win2000 Profesional
into the PDC server.
I'm using Debian sid kernel 2.6.5, Samba 3.0.2a and a
Win2000 box as client. I think there's nothing wrong
with my smb.conf ( I guess...

problems with multiple linux boxes hitting WIN2000 shares, cifs cifs-1.20c-2.4, linux 2.4.27 kernel
We have a cluster of webservers running smbfs mounts.
I switched one box to cifs, 5 shares pointing at a Win2000,
Monday 11 Oct - a week ago. The box ran fine all week.
It is a moderate use production system - /proc/fs/cifs/Stats
reports several hundred thousand SMBs in a week.
Today I switched another box in the cluster to cifs.
Immediately both boxes began spewing errors like:

[pamldap] Problem with win2000 pro
En r?ponse ? Himanshu Khona <himanshu.khona@wipro.com>:
Hi and thanks,
I think i i've resolved my problem :
I saw in the samba mailing-lists that you must put the "encrypted password"
value to "yes" in smb.conf and add the user you want to connect in the
file "smbpasswd".I've tryed it and effectively it is working now!
This is for WIN 2000 and XP I

Hi folks,
From my RedHat Linux box Im using
smbclient L

Samba, CUPs & Win2000 printing
I'm very new to Linux and Samba so bear with me - I am migrating our
business to a Linux/Samba network from an NT network - using Samba as a
PDC.
We are running RH7.3, Samba v2.2.7a, and CUPS v1.1.14
I have a test network set-up which includes the Linux/Samba PDC server, a
Win2000 client and a HP Jetdirect network printer (Laserjet 4Si)
Domain logons and filesharing works fine, but I

I need to know What version of Samba and Linux work with Win2000
Hi
The information on Linux set up for Windows in the web site is dated 1996 and only deals with NT4 and Win95.
I have found a FILE NOT FOUND problem using RedHat 6.2 and samba 2.0.6 (PS Linux 2.0.35 worked with Win2000 !
I have seen comments that Win2000sp2 uses RPC's which are not in Samba 2.2.0.
I have seen that others have reported such a problem in Samba 2.2.2.
What Samba version ?

Migrating Win2000 PDC to Samba4 AD
Hi!
We want to replace an old Win2000 Server (PDC). As we've already some
Samba4 AD-Controllers up and running we would like to migrate to that
setup.
Unfortunatly we're not really good at Windows-Stuff - our main Focus
ist Linux.
So perhaps someone could point as to a good (and ideally painless :-))
way to migrate.
So the current setup is:
A single Win2000 PDC used mainly as

win2000 plaintext password
This is probably an FAQ, but my looking into the issue was unproductive.
When connecting to a samba share from a win2000 professional machine, I
get prompted for a password. Security is set to user on the samba
machine. I reenter the same password as the local user that I login as,
and then it accepts it.
I'm not using encrypted passwords, but I have added the PlainTextPassword
registry
