access denied on printing from win2k?
Hi,
I'm running samba 2.2.1a (RPM install) on RedHat 7.2
I've connected a Canon LBP-8 IV laserprinter to the network via a HP
Jetdirect box.
I've configured the printer within linux and printing goes fine.
Now I'm trying to access the printer via samba from my win2k clients. Now,
the problem is: When I'm trying to print to the printer (e.g. a testpage) I
get the message

Printing problem..
I'm having a little problem with a HP 8550 Laser Color printer shared under samba.
The printer works fine with local prints, I can see the resource printer from Win2k2 explorer.
I install the remote printer in a W2k2 workstation, windows ask me for drivers, and then, I installed them.
The problem is: when I'm triying to access the printer, windows told me:

Updated 2.2.8a to 3.0.7-1 and Cups went South
Mates,
On my Suse 9.0 pro installation, I updated Samba from 2.2.8a to 3.0.7.
The upgrade went flawlessly, Samba is happily sharing all the files it was
before. However, I can no longer print via cups. I have a HP LJ4 attached to
the Linux box that worked great before the upgrade. I have 2 XP clients. Now
from the Windows side, I get the printer status showing 'access denied,

i can't print directly to my samba printer server...
Hi there Brian! I've seen your email on one of the samba mailing list. This
has been my problem for a long time. I just want to share this problem
directly to you and i hope you can lend me your help.
I'm trying to setup windows printer sharing using SAMBA installed on my
Linux box (Redhat 7.3 as printer server) and windows 2000 pro as my client.
My win2k clients are connected to a

general cups & access permissions woes
Hello all,
I have been trying set up a linux box as a print server for our mixed
windows network. It has samba working - everybody can see it & a shared
directory. I installed cups & that too seems to be fine - printing test
pages from the web interface works perfectly. But i can't get them to talk.
I think this is mostly as i can't find a decent howto & so am poking

Print Jobs stuck in queue
Hi,
I have a RedHat7.3 distro running Samba-2.2.3a. I've never had this problem
before 2.2.x versions of samba. I'm using domain security and sharing 2
printers, an HP4050 and Ricoh. Everyone can print fine except that,
seemingly randomly, printjobs end up in the queue as paused (according to
winXPpro and Win98). Nobody can unpause or delete them. The only way to
remove them is to

printing problems and permissions
I've got Samba 2.2.3 running as a PDC for some Win9x and WinNT
clients. Everything seems to be fine except that occasionally (but
rather often, at least every second day) printing from one of the
NT-clients is impossible. In the log file it says (word wrap here in the
editor):
[2002/02/26 18:04:21, 0] printing/printing.c:print_job_start(952)

Problem printing from NT to printer attached to LInux box
I installed Samba 2.2.2 on my Linux box. The smb.conf file is as shown
below. The permission on /var/spool/lpd/lp is set to 755; ie, it is
writable only by the owner, which is lp. With the setup as is, when I
try to print from the NT machine, the smb log on the Linux box
indicates the following error: " print_job_start: insufficient
permissions to open spool file /var/spool/lpd/lp".

printing issue after update to 3.6.1
Hello,
we've updated to 3.6.1 yesterday, and since encounter
problems with printing for some users. There's a
descriptive error in the log.smbd, but I can't see
what to do about it really (the rest of the,
admittedly fairly ancient system, is the same base
system as the previous 3.5.5 - only a couple of security
updates were patched in during downtime).
The message in log.smbd is:

Printer: Access denied, unable to connect
I have a Deskjet 690C connected to my machine running RH7.1 + linux 2.4.13

I have setup the printer with RH's printconf-gui as a local printer. In
local use it works fine.
I have the following in my /etc/samba/smb.conf:

Situation:
I am running Samba 2.2.7a as my DPC in a small business network with win98/ME clients.
A big Fiery printer/scanner/copier device is also part of this network. It has its own printserver.
Since Win98/ME can not print to an LPD queue directly, I have setup Samba to spool the printjobs send by the clients to the Fiery server.
All is working well, but there is a small problem.

Samba and Win2k: Printing from Outlook Express
Hi,
we are operating the IT of a small non-profit organization with a Samba
server (2.2.5) and roughly 15 Win2k workstations. Everything works
fine so far but one single issue: Printing messages from Outlook
Express: only the header of the mail is printed, no single line of the body.
All the domain users are standard-users (I'm not sure about the
correct English wording, may be someone

Win2k-->Linux-->Epson777 (smb.conf + /etc/printcap included)
I don't have a solution, but I do want to keep this thread alive until
we get it resolved. I'm in the same situation. I can print fine, but
it says that annoying message. Do you guys print to an LPD unix queue?
My linux print server is sending the job to a LPD linux box that is
connected to the printer local. (Our printer support requires it that
way).

Print on HP deskjet via Samba 3
Hi list,
I have troubles with printing on a HP Deskjet 1220C (connected on
network through jet direct device).
I have a print server, which use LPRng and allow clients to print on
this 1220c printer as well as laserjet printers.
If client is Linux, I can print on all printers. So I guess my LPRng
config is good.
Another server runs Samba 3. This server's printcap redirect jobs to my

Suddenly one printer stops to print
Hi all,
I'm still a young man having trouble with his fresh new Samba 3 setup.
I've got another small issue with Samba.
Our Samba 3.0.2-2 (Debian Sarge) is acting as a PDC, but also hosts a few
printers shares, with cups.
Suddenly today only ONE of our printers stopped to work.
From an XP Pro SP1 Client, we cannot print anymore.
An attempt to print a test page fails, and here is what

Samba, Win2K, Network path not found
Hi,
I have tried to get my Win2K to access my Linux Samba server without success.
The error message I am getting is "Network Path not found".
Below are the details:
1. The Win2K is actually a guest OS running on VMWare-2.0.4.
The host OS is a RedHat 7.2. VMware uses samba-2.0.6.
2. The config file was based on a working sample, off another
VMWare machine. Its host OS was RedHat 7.2

Win2K sp4 can't print
Hi,
I just installed 2 Win2K sp4 workstations on an otherwise working Samba 2.2.8a
network and 2 of the 3 printers are showing "Access denied". What's up with that?
The other computers that are working just fine are Win98, XP and Win2K NOT sp4.
Here is part of the global section:

load printers = yes
disable spoolss = yes
