2.2.5, Sol 2.8, W2k - Printers...Status: Access Denied unable to connect - ??
hi When I highlight a printer icon in Win 2K, the Status bar shows Status: Access Denied, Unable to connect. It shows this for all samba printers. I can print a test page even though it shows access denied. Anyone know how to fix this? thanks. Case Sensitive Problem
I am using samba to share a directory that lives on an OpenBSD 3.1 box. The client is my linux box. I want to mount this directory so I can use my own tools on the linux box to edit the code. My problem is that there is a file "boucer" which is an executable and a "Bouncer" directory. I'm sure you can see my problem. I tried putting case sensitive = yes in the

Are these BUGS? anyone experienced either of these?
I have experienced a couple of (minor) problems with Samba Thought I would report these and ask if they are known problems. 1. Problem with "!" in username map file 2. Samba tools e.g. smbstatus, testparm not accounting for "config file" parameter 1. There appears to be a problem with a minor part of username map file interpretation. When I put an exclamation mark

AutoCAD file names UPPER CASE on samba
Hi folks, we are experiencing a problem when AutoCAD 2000+ drawing files are saved on a Samba (2.0.8) file share. Regardless of what the file is 'saved as', the name is always converted to all capitals. e.g. Drawing1 becomes DRAWING1 Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. Seems strange that it is only AutoCAD files, but I think it is Samba related, not AutoCAD,

Does 3MB/sec seem as fast as
John, I haven't done any direct performance testing, although I am planning on figuring that out now. (BTW, how is performance testing ran?) However, I can say that since converting over to the Samba PDC/File Server that the file transfer performance just feels much faster. Regards, Robert Adkins II IT Manager/Buyer Impel Industries, Inc. Re: (2.2.5) Does AUTO PRINTER DRIVERS work - definitive statement please (Trevor Fraser)
Hi (Samba 225, Sol 2.8) Well.....for anyone that's interested.. I decided to try the printer upload/download support in 225. So far I've been inconsistently able to upload and download drivers. When uploading, sometimes I'll get the message described in the HOW-TO docs and when I do it seems to upload OK. But then when I attempt to install the printer on a client, I get prompted

Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)
Sorry to have to repost this (didn't get any response on the first post), we really need some of the fixes of the new Samba but cannot go ahead without the support for the older machines. Need to prove that Samba is the great product that I believe it is. Hi folks - I am having printing problems with our older machines. Printing is working fine for our Windows NT, 2000 and XP clients.

Windows changes file ownership & ACL's - any solution?
We have a problem with file security settings changing when a file is edited by someone who is not the owner. When the edited file is saved, ownership is transferred to the person who edited the file. Also, access control settings for the file are reset to a default setting. This is a real problem, since in some cases it means that the original owner of the file no longer has permission to edit

Samba-3 HOWTO and ref. guide - need clarification please - printing chapter
Could someone who is familiar with the book "Samba-3 HOWTO and reference guide and who is also familiar with printer setup please give me some advice... I am summarising the procedure for setting up a printer for automatic driver download which is described in chapter 17. There are a couple of processes mentioned that look very similar and I am wondering if both steps are required for

Infrasoft MX very slow loading from Samba share
We are experiencing long delays when loading MX files stored on our samba fileserver. We are running version 2.2.7a of Samba on Solaris 8 servers. Using MX version 2.5 and higher on windows 2000 and XP workstations When the files are stored locally they load in a few seconds, whilst taking more than a minute to run from the Samba server. Our current workaround is to store the files locally,

if statement
Hi all, I have a rather naive question. I have the height of 100 individuals in a table and I want to assign the tallest 30% as Case=1 and the bottom 30% as Case=0. How do I do that? thanks. jiong The email message (and any attachments) is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential information. Small Bug with username map (2.2.5)
Hi, there appears to be a problem with a minor part of username map file interpretation. When I put an exclamation mark before a line in the file, that is supposed to stop any further mapping if a match has already been made. That's what I understand to be the case. This is not happening for me. When I connect from a Win2k machine as Administrator, the log file records the mapping from

SOLVED: (maybe) Re:Windows 95/98 will not connect to Samba 2.2.5
Ok, I think I fixed the problem, but I'm still a bit puzzled. You see, a lot of our users are mapped to the user 'nobody' When I checked the log file, I noticed that it was having a problem because 'nobody' has a null password. So, putting the parameter 'null passwords = yes' into the conf file fixed the problem. What I don't understand is that it connected fine

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT ,2000, XP are ok)
Thanks for the suggestion Andrew, I was hopeful, but removing the writeable made no difference. Still prints from NT, 2000, XP but not from Win95, 98. Any other ideas? -peter. How to "recover" the printer drivers?
Samba 2.2.8a-1, RH8. ... So, I had to reinstall. Fortunately I had a back-up copy. I've installed everything and then went to back-up and brought back all the stuff from /etc/samba and /var/cache/samba and all /etc/cups and /etc/printcap*. Aparently samba is working corectly: All user/machine accounts are in place winbind OK... It's just that although I've restored the /home/printers

Problems with SPOOLSS WinNT driver uploads
I've been experiencing a problem with the automatic printer driver download function described in printer_driver2.html under Samba 2.2.5 on Red Hat 7.2. I believe that I have followed the doc correctly and in fact the driver uploads/downloads seem to work if I use a small driver set (like the Apple Laserwriter v23.0) that comes with Windows NT 4.0. The problem is that I cannot seem to
