Roaming profiles problem
Hey all,
I've got a few WinXP workstations logging into a 2.2.4pre (CVS from April
30th, around 8 p.m. PDT) PDC, and I'm having some sort of odd problem with
roaming profiles.
The XP workstations can successfully (it seems) retrieve and save thier
profiles to the samba box; however, if I log off a user, say "gary", from
one workstation, and travel to the next one, and log in

RPM build errors-Possible Bug?
Hello all.
I'm trying to create the rpm for Samba 2.2.5. I haven't uninstalled the
other version as we are using it. I got the tar.gz from the Samba web site.
I type
# sh makerpms.sh and this is what I get this @ the end:

My Documents folder and roaming profiles.
Hi All,
I don't know whether here is the right place to ask as this question is
probably more Windows related than Samba related but I thought someone here
might have some ideas.
I've got a Samba 2.2.5 PDC (running on FreeBSD but that doesn't really
matter) serving Windows XP machines.
The roaming profiles are set to be stored in a different share to the users
home directory so

(no subject)
A good day to you all. i dont seemt to be having any luck joining Windows XP machines into my domain. This i find quite peculiar, since i have had no problems with win98, winnt, or win2k machines.
The Windows XP machine is able to see the domain, and reports that it has joined the domain after i enter the domain admin account and password. But after the reboot, i can't seem to log on

FreeBSD 4.5, Samba 2.2.4_1, W2K client "printer prope rties cannot be displayed"
I've experienced something like this, as well. Though I don't know if this
will help, I would make sure that your NT username(s) are appropriately
mapped to unix users. You may not be able to view the properties because
the permissions/mapped user are mixed up. You can check this by doing a
smbstatus - the user names listed as connected are the unix usernames that
have been mapped to.

Will rpcclient ever get better?
I was wondering if anyone has heard of someone trying to improve on
rpcclient, specifically regarding the printer-related commands. Also, it
seems that rpcclient has trouble returning a large list of printers
(enumprinters), like in the range of 200. Has anyone heard about this?
Thanks in advance for replies :-)

error: "printing subsystem unavailable" when trying t o print test page to samba server
I had that happen to me on w2k. Your spooler service is stopped. I had an
invalid print driver entry in Samba and when I printed to any of the
printers on my Samba server it would cause the service to stop.
To fix it I replaced the printer tdb's and re-installed the drivers.

change_trust_account_password failing
samba 2.2.4 on RedHat 7.1
everything is working. wbinfo -t reports a good secret. users can access
shares. the samba server shows up in the browser & server manager.
However, this server is not able to change the password on it's machine
account. I log the following errors once a day:
May 29 08:16:33 rhtemp1 smbd[5056]: domain_client_validate: unable to
fetch domain sid.

problem joining the domain
We've encountered a problem with getting a newly installed Samba based
machine to join the domain.
Here's the command line and error response:

Win2k Printer Woes Continue
I installed the printer patch on 2.2.4 on my Linux 7.3 box, reconfigured
it (I think I did things in the correct order:configure, make
realclean,run patch,configure,make,sh.makerpms.sh), created a new rpm,
uninstalled the old samba, reinstalled the new rpm, fixed the conf
files, reloaded samba and now my printers appear as "HPLASERJET on
_smbserver". HPLASERJET is queue name which is

Print driver settings
Hello,
We've installed a samba-printserver at a customer using a large number
of Nashuatec-printers. Most of them are Optra T164, formerly known as
NRG P6025 PS3. In our setup we defined 1 user (printadmin) which manages
all printers. All printusers are mapped to guest. User printadmin installed
the printdrivers on the server and the clients download the driver during
their first connection.

ACL support?
Is it still true that in order for a Linux hosted Samba server to have NT ACL
support, the Linux box must have an ACL aware file system such as XFS or
Andreas Gruenbacher's kernel patch ("POSIX ACL")? I read this in chapter 4 of
"Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours". In the time since that book was written,
has an easier method been developed, or has a

[virt-v2v] "make distcheck" now passes
There were a few "infelicities" that kept the "make distcheck"
test from passing. These three patches combine to fix all of them,
punting on only one by disabling the install-data-hook rule.

Directory missing on RH 7.3
Hello all.
Thanks for all the support.
I'm at the very beginning stage of an upgrade. I'm trying to # sh makerpms.sh, but it complains about there not being /usr/src/redhat/something/something, and I check and its not there. I went to my router which is running RedHat 7.1, and its there. Does 7.1 & 7.3 have different directory structures, or what's the story? Did I delete

makedepend in Mesa
While keeping up-to-date the nouveau mesa driver (either classic or
gallium), or doing regression testing, the big majority of my rebuilds
resulted in segfaults.
I am not talking about autogen or configure detection. I believe this
also works automatically in other projects and doesn't with mesa, but
forgetting to do this usually causes a build failure. Then
autogen/configure can be run and

smbpasswd + ldap questions
I would like to have sync'd Unix and Samba passwords. My Unix passwords
are stored in OpenLDAP for uniformity across machines and services. I
have some problems with the standard solutions to this problem though:
* if I have Samba authenticate from OpenLDAP directly (using the
smbPassword attribute), then I get sync'ing problems when the password
is changed via normal Unix means. We
