FW: oplock break on excel files using samba 2.2.4
I'm having the same kind of problem too. Links to other excel workbooks
are really breaking badly. One of them so bad that if I highlight the
file through a windows explorer view; it kills the window immediately.
I'm using RH 7.2 and Samba 2.2.4 -1
Please let me know if someone has some suggestions ....
So far I've tried:
veto oplock files = /*.mdb/*.MDB/*.ldb/*.LDB/*.xls/*.XLS

Samba and *groan* Windows XP Home problems!
Hi,
This has probably been covered before but after 4 hours of searching I'm
nearly at the point of throwing my XP machine out of the window!!
I have set up Samba (v 2.2.5) on my Red Hat 7.1 box. From the Red Hat box I
can see all the other computers on the network (other Linux machines, Win2k,
Windows ME and my Windows XP box), and get access to the shared drives on
them. The linux box can

Samba+MYOB
Hello all,
We are experiencing problems using MYOB Premier V6.0.2 on Windows 2000
computers SP3, with the data file residing on shared drive on Linux (Redhat
7.2) file server running Samba Version 2.2.1a and kernel 2.4.9-34.
The MYOB Tech support have told me that it is a problem with our network but
could not give me any hints where the problem might be.
The MYOB database has been corrupted

Big Migration
Next month I will move about 3000 clients (w2k) to a PDC samba, after that I will have more 1200 clients, but this time will be Linux, my question is:
1- Is there domain logon, like we have for Windows users ?
2- is smb the protocol recommended to FileShare to Linux clients or NFS is better (is there another one) ?

Newbie (groan... !) Client Problem
I've studied the books, searched the list archives, etc. I suspect there is
someone who can just tell me one thing to tweek, so I humbly beg your
advice.
Situation:
I am playing with/learning Linux, intending to replace our two company
Netware servers sometime in the next 6 months. At home, I have an NT4.0/SPC
PDC, an NT4.0/SP6 docked laptop, and an HP server with RH7.1 or 7.2 (2.4.??

network. I did read somewhere on the web (several years ago) of a guy
who managed to boot windows from the net.
With the start of Win 98/ME/ etc.etc it's not posible anymore.
I currently use PXE to install machine from the net using bpbatch that
works great only bpbatch is not really under developnt and the script
language is a bit buggy.
I see only one option to boot windows from the net and

OT: Slow browsers or slow connections?
I have AT&T (formerly SBC) DSL for my primary internet connection here, and
tonight it has been exceptionally, extraordinarily S - L - O - W.... Pages
that normally load in, at most, seconds, are taking several minutes to
locate, even common, frequent access pages like Google, Gmail, etc.
I called AT&T, of course, and all they know about is IE, which, as you can
probably guess, I rarely

matrix help (first occurrence of variable in column)
Dear R help,
Apologies for the less than informative subject line. I will do my
best to describe my problem.
Consider the following matrix:

dimnames = list(c("T1", "T2"),
c("sp.1", "sp.2", "sp.3")))

Noncentral t & F distributions
Dear List:
The square of the noncentral t-statistic with noncentrality parameter
\delta is a noncentral F with noncentrality parameter \lambda=\delta^2.
So, t^2_{\nu,\delta} = F_{1,\nu,\lambda=\delta^2}. Consequently, it
should follow that t^2_{1-\alpha/2,\nu,\delta} =
f_{1-alpha,1,\vu,\lambda=\delta^2}. However, this is not what is
happening with the following code. The central

Use ms control panel in wine (Even witout windows)!!
If you only have a fake windows installation (Like me), this probably
will only be a thing to do for fun, but could be useful if you have a
real win installation.
To do this in a real win installation, you don't need anything you don't
already have, to do this in a fake win installation, you need:
rundll32.exe; rundll.exe (Copy in c:windows directory)
All the cpl files (Copy in

Overhead Paging Systems...
Hey all,
I know you all saw the topic and let out a groan. However, I understand
how to get an overhead paging system to work with respect *, however I am
now looking for a small(?) paging amp, that I could hook 3 or 4 horns to.
I would like to just have the * extention be routed to a soundcard and out
an output, so I would like an amp that is voice signal activated.
Has anyone found anything

Histogram with different colors for different portions
Dear Rusers,
I would like to color different sections of a histogram different colors.
I have an example that was done by "brute force" given below. Has anyone
implemented something like this in general? If not, any suggestions/pointers
on how to write a general function to do so would be most appreciated.

change the height or scale of the y axis
Hallo, All,
I have a question about changing the height or scale of the y axis. When I
use following two R codes, I can get two plots. Please look at the y axes,
the number of indices (x1, x2, ?) on the y axis in the first plot is smaller
than that in the second plot, and hence the space between any two indices in
the first plot is wider than that in the second plot. As the number of
indices
