Restricting access to [homes]
Greetings!
I've got a samba server that's serving Windows and Mac clients. I want
to restrict the [homes] share such that users can *only* connect to
their own home directory, and not make read-only connections to other
people's home directories.
For example, on a Mac, if I connect to my Samba server with:
    smb://servername/bbonds
and then authenticate myself as:

Working with lists with numerical names
Greetings!
I'm have a hard time working with some data I imported from a baseball
database. Several of the database columns have numbers in them (2B,
3B), and when I try to use these vectors from the data frame, I get
syntax errors, probably because it's interpreting the name as a number:

Samba PDC + OpenLDAP, Jaunty: Can't join domain
Greetings!
I'm trying to get an OpenLDAP (2.4.15-1ubuntu3), Samba PDC
(2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3.1) running under Ubuntu Jaunty. I've followed the
instructions on the Ubuntu server guide
(https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/serverguide/C/samba-ldap.html) as closely
as possible (twice. . .), and spent some time with Chapter 5 of the
Samba3 By Example book, trying to use it to get things working. But I

Using zoo() to aggregate daily data to monthly means
I am trying to get monthly means for a daily data series using zoo(). I have
found an odd problem, that seems to be caused by zoo()'s handling of leap
years.
Here's my R script with 2 methods (freq=365, 366) for aggregating the daily
data to monthly series:
library(zoo)
J_link <- "http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/seaice/extent/plot.csv"
JAXA_data <- read.table(J_link,

Rmpi on Linux x86_64 GNU/Linux
I'm having trouble with R CMD INSTALL Rmpi_0.5-5.tar.gz
--configure-args=~/lam
lam is is installed locally.
lamboot -d (or lamboot-d and also recon) works. make -k check from the
lamtest suite passes all tests.
Is this is problem with the -fPIC compiler as in the message? Should it
be modified in the Makefile?
Any help or comments are appreciated, thanks.

Nb of copies don't appear in page_log file
Hi
I am currently using Samba 3.0.11 and Cups 1.1.23 with Windows
PostScript drivers and manufacturer PPDs on WinXP clients.
When I print multiples copies of a document from a Windows XP box, the
number of copies appearing in the Cups "page_log" file always takes the
"1" value but the printer prints the correct number of copies. When I do
the same on Linux (with the lpr

cups page_log strangeness
Hi there
I just upgraded from 3.0.23d to 3.0.25b. The server acts as PDC and
print server.
The setup is that Win clients automtically download the printers from
samba. Worked all right so far.
Here is what I did.
Compiled the new version and installed it.
Stopped smbd and nmbd and copied everything under /old-samba/var/ to
/new-samba/var/
"smb.conf" stayed the same.
Fired up the

Samba and Cups - number of copies
Hi all...
I need some docs about how to intergrate cups with samba...
I have install samba 3.2.5 and cups 1.3.8 on Debian Lenny system.
I have install a printer ( Ricoh Aficio 3245C PS ) and have work fine...
But when I follow the job on /var/log/cups/page_log, I always see that
number of copies is 1, doesn't matter if the jobs has 5 or 10 pages...
It's always show 1 on page_log...

[fsblk@aurora.uaf.edu: Bug#138828: flac: strange decode output]
retitle 138828 flac: progress display is broken with long filenames
thanks
I don't think it's a gnome-terminal issue, as I've seen the same behaviour
with xterm in the past. I've never bothered doing anything about it because
it seems to be purely cosmetic; the operation still completes successfully.
I'm forwarding this bug upstream.

CentOS 6: Logrotate / selinux problem
Ever since a recent power failure I have been getting a Logrotate error. My
machine is on a UPS -- it shutdown cleanly, but I suspect that its BIOS/RTC
battery is dead, since the machine came up thinking it was 1982 :-(. I reset
the clock and everything is fine, *except* I had to delete Logrotate's state
files (which had bad dates). But now Logrotate is raising the error:

Win2k explorer.exe dies when dealing with printers
Hi there.
I've been some days dealing with printing problems in Win2k clients, having
a Samba 2.2.5 parched with "parse_sec.patch" as a printer server.
When I try to print anything, explorer.exe dies. Sometimes dies spoolsv.exe,
or sometimes all the system locks (it may be because explorer do not restart).
It happens to all my Win2k clients with Service Pack 2, and only when using

Hi All,
Wondering if there is a document that tells how to get wine printing through
a cups printer working? Yes I know the wine docs say it's all magic and if
you're using cups your printing will magically work, but for some reason, it
doesn't, my wine session crashes and burns when I try to print from the
built in notepad (or any other apps I've tried: in particular, Lotus

I've managed to print to my HPDeskjet 694c attached to a Solaris 8 box

HP Deskjet drivers, Samba and Cups
I have Samba 2.2.7 running on Redhat 8 (fully updated). I have two printers
set up - a laser and a Deskjet 920C both connected to the Redhat server via
USB cables. Printing is managed using CUPS although I get the same problem
with LPR and Webmin configured printers. The laser works fine, the deskjet
doesn't. The deskjet works with a generic windows HP Deskjet or HP Deskjet
plus driver in
