Locating the MACHINE.SID fil
Additional Info...
I am beginning to think that a file called 'secrets.tdb' might be what I
am looking for. Inside that file is something mentioning SID. Of course,
it also mentions the name of the PDC.
If that is the file I am supposed to copy over. Then it is done.
However, I still need a little more input for setting up a Samba BDC.
With a Samba BDC, should I leave the

Replacing Microsoft on the server side :-)
Hi all,
I'm not yet a "100 % Samba Guru" and I'd very much appreciate feedback
of some guru's out there regarding the following:
Our team started trials with Samba 2.2.5 on Red Hat AS using OpenLDAP
technologies and a LDAP backend keeping Samba's "SAM data". Ideally
we want to kick out as much of Microsoft's server infrastructure as
possible - means

Changing expired NT password
I'm using a Linux workstation in an NT domain environment. I ran into a problem
today where my NT password had expired and I could no longer use any services
(e.g., Outlook). I found the domain controller host and attempted to use
smbpasswd -r <host> to change the password, however it simply returned
NT_STATUS_PASSWORD_EXPIRED (duh!). After trying for a couple hours to change

Legal questions with jCIFS 0.8.2
I work for IBM and our developers have used jCIFS 0.8.2 in our product. We
are now going through legal approval and have some questions.
If people submit code changes to your product, do you find out if the
submitter has the right to distribute the code? If so, do they need to
sign any kind of statement?
I couldn't find version 0.8.2 on your web site. The legal question is

Multiple IP addresses
Hi,
I have been trying to connect to Samba over the Internet as I have static IP that is publicly available for connection. I can use this IP to connect to our Intranet web site but Samba doesn't work correctly when trying to connect to it from outside. Our internal network addresses work fine. Even a VPN connection, which gets our internal address scheme works. But, when trying to use

Opposite of Samba (Anti-Samba?)
Is there a package to do the opposite of Samba?
I.e. I want to use (mount) Win filesystems from a Unix client.

Anyone using antivirus software?
Hello list,
I was just wondering if anyone is using anti-virus software on their Samba server. I have protection on my clients, but I want to run software on the server too. I've looked at McAfee's Virus Scan, but as far as I can tell, it only uses "on-demand" scanning, meaning I have to trigger it from the command line, or run a cron job. I would like to have

Windows Vista RC2 can't delete Samba Directories
Can anyone share any insight as to why Vista RC2 can't delete
directories on a Samba 3.0.10 share? No problem delete directories
using a windows XP client.
Thank you.

Starting Samba 3.0.7 using -F -S flags
I'm attempting to start smbd and nmbd using the -F -S flags, but get the
following:
added interface ip=127.0.0.1 bcast=127.255.255.255 nmask=255.0.0.0
added interface ip=192.168.0.1 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
standard input is not a socket, assuming -D option
Seems that Samba is defaulting back to the -D flag.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

Samba 3.0.25b as a domain member to a Samba PDC
I've been using Samba for about 7 years of so, but have hit a hurdle I
just can't seem to figure out.
I want to setup samba domain member servers to be members of a samba
3.0.25 (NT4 type) domain. No windbind, LDAP, or any other of the more
complex authentication mechanism. This is the same functionality going
way back to Samba 2.2, or so. In fact, I successfully did this on samba

problems with share permissions
Hi
I had a few test shares created and they were working fine. Users could
read or write depending on the windows group that was defined on the
share. I have since removed the test shares and created the file
structure needed and setup the smb.conf file with the share names. I
have also setup the groups and assigned them to the respective
directories. Problem is the users can connect to

problems with permissions
hi list,
environment:
Windows 2008 Domain
Centos 7 server running samba 4.4.4
Problem:
I am creating a number of samba shares on the Centos server to be used
on the Domain. Right now I have two major directories setup as shares
with minor directories being created.
How do I specify read/write permissions on the minor directories without
having to create a share for each directory? When I

ADS Domain Member Workgroup vs Realm
I'm working to setup Samba as a domain member to a Windows Server active
directory, and I keep hitting road blocks. There's some real terminology
hurdles in the wiki.
In a nutshell, my problem is this: I setup a Windows 2012 Essentials ADS
domain and I ended up with zartman.local for my "domain" in Windows. So,
I've got a dns zone in windows server that is domain.local

Samba 3.6 AD Domain Member
I'm playing around with Domain Membership to a WIndows 2012 AD Server. It
appears I'm able to join the AD domain, but the domain member doesn't seem
to authenticate anything against the DC once joined. Here is my smb.conf
netbios name = Member
workgroup = ZARTMAN
security = ADS
realm = ZARTMAN.LOCAL
dedicated keytab file = /etc/krb5.keytab
kerberos method = secrets and

Strange package installation error
Hi. I'm trying to install a new package. I'm a relatively long-time
(though not advanced) R user and have never seen this error before.
For the first example, I tried a few different CRAN mirrors. In the
second example, the file does exist; I downloaded it from the CRAN
website for the package and pasted in the name exactly a few different
times to make sure it was right.

domain admins and Samba 3.0.2
Hi
I've been running Samba 2.x for years but decided to move up to 3.0.2. I've set
up a new samba server with a workgroup NEWBIOSS and netbios name PARETO.
Im having problems setting up my domain admins.
I used
'net groupmap modify "Domain Admins" unixgroup=domadmin'
my 'net groupmap list' shows :
