I have just gotten the latest CVS co according to the samba web site. Does anyone have a 'how to' for the Active directory portion of 3.0? I understand it is still in Alpha state, but I am in need of this or similar. Hello Does anybody know what the status is of samba 3.0. When will it be out and what key improvements will it contain? Is the alpha release stable? Does anybody use it etc /Alexander
Samba 3.0 Alpha 18 is the latest release. http://us1.samba.org/samba/ftp/alpha/samba-3.0-alpha18.tar.gz I did some testing with Alpha17 and it needed quite a bit of work in order to function in an AD environment. -----Original Message----- From: alex [mailto:alex@saers.com] Sent: Sunday, August 11, 2002 4:49 AM To: samba Subject: [Samba] Samba 3.0 Hello Does anybody know what the status is of samba 3.0. Hi all, will samba 3.0 have the ability to become a BDC to a windows PDC ? Thanks, Pete
Hello, anybody have an idea when the samba team will release the samba 3.0. Why ? - Some server have RAS support, and if one of these server is on my domain, the client cannot connect. - Some users modify word or excel options and after logoff and logon after, these options are forgotten. - A user in more than one NT group is not used. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I was wondering how is support for NT Style Domains doing in Samba 3.0? If I want to use domain level security is Active Directory Part of the Package or will NT 4.0 style be provided too? Also how is support for tools like Server Manager, and User Manager across the domain, from Windows Clients in the new version? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (MingW32) iD8DBQE/QFjTEK+EAP2ExcQRAnxcAJ0fHRkaPMm1iOBeZSPIT37MaQNqOACfbj/p L7OFv7n7ae7sBzY08NsWx0Q=CR+Q -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Samba 3.0 will be able to serve as an NT4 PDC, but not (yet) an Active Directory DC. (ObAnecdote: I'm successfully using a Samba 3.0.0beta2 server in "security = domain" mode, authenticating against a Win2000 Active Directory.
