Locating the MACHINE.SID fil
Additional Info...
I am beginning to think that a file called 'secrets.tdb' might be what I
am looking for. Inside that file is something mentioning SID. Of course,
it also mentions the name of the PDC.
If that is the file I am supposed to copy over. Then it is done.
However, I still need a little more input for setting up a Samba BDC.
With a Samba BDC, should I leave the

WINDOWS Security on a share
Is it possible to use the Windows security on a Samba share which resides
on a Unix server which is a MEMBER of a W2K domain ?? I am unable to make
the unix server a PDC due to restrictions in the company. I have 27 users
with different accesses to the same directories/files and I am trying to
avoid a monster smb.conf file. I am running 2.2.5 on an HPUX 11 w/o winbind

Multiple IP addresses
Hi,
I have been trying to connect to Samba over the Internet as I have static IP that is publicly available for connection. I can use this IP to connect to our Intranet web site but Samba doesn't work correctly when trying to connect to it from outside. Our internal network addresses work fine. Even a VPN connection, which gets our internal address scheme works. But, when trying to use

Changing expired NT password
I'm using a Linux workstation in an NT domain environment. I ran into a problem
today where my NT password had expired and I could no longer use any services
(e.g., Outlook). I found the domain controller host and attempted to use
smbpasswd -r <host> to change the password, however it simply returned
NT_STATUS_PASSWORD_EXPIRED (duh!). After trying for a couple hours to change

Legal questions with jCIFS 0.8.2
I work for IBM and our developers have used jCIFS 0.8.2 in our product. We
are now going through legal approval and have some questions.
If people submit code changes to your product, do you find out if the
submitter has the right to distribute the code? If so, do they need to
sign any kind of statement?
I couldn't find version 0.8.2 on your web site. The legal question is

Anyone using antivirus software?
Hello list,
I was just wondering if anyone is using anti-virus software on their Samba server. I have protection on my clients, but I want to run software on the server too. I've looked at McAfee's Virus Scan, but as far as I can tell, it only uses "on-demand" scanning, meaning I have to trigger it from the command line, or run a cron job. I would like to have

Samba PDC & Exchange 2000 Server
I presently have a 2 server system a Sambe PDC and a mail server running Bynari Insight Server and we use Bynari connector to connect our Outlook 2000 clients to the Insight Server. It works well enough. BUT.... Bynari are stopping support for Outlook 2000.
For us the upgrade all our copies of Outlook is expensive and we have all the functionality we need.
So, we have MS Server 2000 and Exchange

Dovecot 1.0-test77 endless loop hang
Client: Bynari Insight Connector 3.0.5. (http://www.bynari.net/)
This is an IMAP-based plugin for Outlook that can also store Outlook
collaboration objects (calendar, tasks, notes, etc.) in IMAP messages on the
server side. It does not require special server extensions, and it was
actually (mostly) working with 1.0-stable.
Below is a rawlog dump showing what is going back and forth. After

Bynari Insight connector
Hi,
Since IMAP support in Outlook is 'somewhat broken', and Bynari has some
promising specifications on their website, I might want to try their
product.
Does anyone here have any experience with their software? Would you
recommend it? Or maybe point me at alternatives? (If there are any.. aside
from ditching Outlook of course :-P )

Starting Samba 3.0.7 using -F -S flags
I'm attempting to start smbd and nmbd using the -F -S flags, but get the
following:
added interface ip=127.0.0.1 bcast=127.255.255.255 nmask=255.0.0.0
added interface ip=192.168.0.1 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
standard input is not a socket, assuming -D option
Seems that Samba is defaulting back to the -D flag.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

Samba 3.0.25b as a domain member to a Samba PDC
I've been using Samba for about 7 years of so, but have hit a hurdle I
just can't seem to figure out.
I want to setup samba domain member servers to be members of a samba
3.0.25 (NT4 type) domain. No windbind, LDAP, or any other of the more
complex authentication mechanism. This is the same functionality going
way back to Samba 2.2, or so. In fact, I successfully did this on samba

Best FXO hardware for home use
Hi. I have been searching through old threads and various forums, but can't seem to find out what the consensus view is here on the best type of FXO hardware to use for a home asterisk implementation.
Specifically, should I buy a FXO ATA like the Sipura 3000, or a PCI form factor port like the Digium TDM400 series. I have read horrible things about problems with the X100P, so I have ruled

Headset for Polycom
Hi,
I've been asked for a headset recommandation for Polycom SoundPoint IP
phones. Since I believe they use a pretty standard headset jack (correct me
if I am wrong) it's really a general recommandation on headset.

Mike
