Samba and Sun NIS
I am trying to get Samba working under Solaris 8 with NIS (not plus) on this. My NT machine and the Sun machine pass all of the diagnostics and I can see the exported drives but can't login. Everything seems fine and I have Samba working on my AIX machines. I compiled with NIS+ support even though I am using NIS and it did not work so then I compiled without support and same error. I am using

CentOSplus Postfix with mysql/pgsql
The lasted version of Postfix in the OS for 4.5 add a .1 to the rpm
version which makes it newer than the CentOSPlus version and hence
replaces it, any intent to update the 4.5 CentOSPlus package or should I
roll my own with mysql included?
4.5 OS Version: postfix-2.2.10-1.1.el4.i386.rpm
4.4/5 CentOSPlus Version: postfix-2.2.10-1.RHEL4.2.mysql_pgsql.c4.i386.rpm

smbpasswd error message
Hi,
I have successfully installed Samba on a Solaris2.7 system and created the
smbpasswd file using mksmbpasswd.sh
Now I want to set passwords for all users. But when I try to run
"smbpasswd" or "smbpasswd username" as root the following error message
occurs:

NIS+
Hi,
The current method of hard coding at compile time which password
database Samba is
to use is a little inconvenient. The same binaries cannot be used for
files/NIS+/LDAP.
An extra samba.conf option eg.
database files nis+ ldap
could be used to give the databases allowed and the preferred search
order.
If the default was:
database files
then the compile options with_nisplus and with _ldap

samba PDC with NIS, or other solution?
We have a network with Windows NT/2000, SGI's, Linux, Macintosh, AIX. Our
user account/passwords for all our machines is handled by NIS on an AIX
machine.
Our unix machines autheticate through NIS. Our windows machines
authenticate by loging on to an NT server acting as the PDC, and that PDC
has a service installed on it called "WinDD NIS" (made by Tektronix I
think) which contacts

smbpasswd on solaris 2.6
Hi,
I am running samba on linux and solaris 2.6. I have no problem making
encrypted passwords work on linux meaning I have Windows 98 and NT users
able to map a drive to their home directories on the samba server.
I am having problems doing the same thing on solaris 2.6. I have run the
mksmbpasswd.sh and the smbpasswd file got created. I have added the
following lines to my smb.conf file:

NIS+ trouble
I'm a little less new to samba now - but having a heck of a time
getting authentication to work. I'm running NIS+, configured samba
with --with-nisplus --with-nisplus-home and --with-automount.
Does anyone have some good nis/samba references? I'm striking
out.
The smbpasswd file *does* have to become smbpasswd.org_dir for
samba to work. I first created the smbpasswd file using

Samba 2.2.7 and NIS
Is there a way to get Samba to validate users against the NIS (not NIS+) database. I've tried compiling with --with-nis but when I
try to access a share I get this message in the samba log:

NIS failover
We just updated our configuratiosn to have multiple NIS servers, when we
initiated a test of client failover, we were disapointed.
It seemed that the only way to get a filaover was to /etc/init.d/ypbind restart.
It behaves as indicated in
http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=5084845 using

Anyone have Solaris 8/9, W2K AD, NIS working?
Okay, I'm at wit's end, and am about ready to give up on Samba 3.x as a way to implement single sign-on.
I would like to know if there's anyone out there who has the following environment:
- Solaris 8 and 9, running NIS (not NIS+) for automount and passwd/group maps
- W2K-based Active Directory
I'm trying to get Solaris authentication to work using AD user accounts. According to

Linux/NIS+
Hello,
I'm having a problem configuring samba (2.0.5a) on a Linux
system using NIS+ as the password system. Samba complains that
it cannot find the smbpasswd file, which is not surprising as
I'm not using one. I tried 'smb password file = passwd.org_dir'
that sort of worked, except that it creates a directory called
passwd.org_dir from whatever directory I ran the smbd from.

NIS+ support in samba....
Hi all,
I know this has probably been spoke about before, but I'm looking for some
documentation or other info on setting up NIS+ with samba.... I currently
have samba running on the NIS+ master, but am having trouble setting up
authentication again the NIS+ passwd tables. I'm also not exactly sure
where smbpasswd comes into play with NIS+ and if I actually need to run
that everytime I
