Filesystem Locking or lack of locking issues
Good Day,
I'm running into some issues and wondered if there are a few of you that can
assist. Or please let me know if this is better off in a Java forum (but
figure the Samba crew knows a bit more about filesystems then the java team
:)

smbfs failure mounting DAVE Macintosh share
Hi,
I tried to make my Linux box smbmount a remote share originating from a
Macintosh running the commercial package DAVE 2.5. The Linux box is a RedHat 6.0
with a 2.2.14 kernel (with smbfs inserted as a module) and samba-2.0.3; the iMac
ran MacOS9.
The directory to be shared, \\akemi\archivio, contained two files, aaa and bbb.
Here's what happened:
[root@sonal ~]# smbmount

What's Happening
Found these messages in /var/log/dmesg on a Redhat 7.1 machine running
Samba 2.2.2 accessing a Win 2000 share. Actually, there are a bunch of
tasks accessing the same share, complete with file locking, etc.
Any docs on what that error code means?
...Thanks,
...Kenneth

error -13 with smbopen
Using linux on both server and client.
I can run smbmount and all seems ok. But, when I try to use kfm to browse a
share, I get the following messages thousands of times in /var/log/messages
and things more or less hang up. I have to telinit 1 to get control of my
client machine.

Character translation problem
Hi all,
I have a file that samba does not know how to access. The file is located on
a w2k server. The samba box is a member of the w2k domain (ADS). When I try
to access the file via nfs I get "no such file or directory". In the logs
I get the following error:

Samba as a client to Windows2000 + special characters on filenames
Greetings!
I have been troubleshooting this for over a week, and what follows is a rather
long, detailed description. The short description to the problem I have been
dealing with is: I can't access files on a windows2000 server from a Linux
client when their filenames have some specific special characters such as "?" I
can list them, but not copy.
The setup:

avoiding repitition
as my rails application gets bigger, I find I''m writing the same generic
specs for standard CRUD operations. with 8 controllers so far, and more to
come, I''m keen to reduce the duplication. I asked before about generating
specs dynamically in this thread :

but it doesn''t seem possible completely possible.

bootstrap question
Dear r People
I have a bootstrap question, please.
(this may possibly be a problem with my understanding of the bootstrap)
Suppose I have a sample of size 15, x[1], ...x[15].
This is a sample which is small compared to the population.
by the way, the x[i] are iid and have a common distribution F.
As I understand the bootstrap, that function will take a user specified
number of repititions.

Can't access a linux server using a Win2K client
Hello all. I am new to Samba, so forgive me if this is a stupid
question, but I have been unable to figure this out.
I have a Red Hat 7.1 box (kernel 2.4.9) with the Samba 2.2.4-2 RPM
installed. I am trying to configure it so that Windows 2000 machines
within my company's Windows domain can access it. Before diving into
anything exotic, I am trying to get this to work without requiring any

Need Help with Fence_xvm
Dear Xen Users,
I am new to this technology and I''ve been reading all over the places about how to setup a cluster infrasctructre using Xen DOM0 and Xen DOMu Domains.
So far I have quite a few parts running (cluster) but I am trying to add a (virtual) fencing method. I have read that I can use (Virtual Fencing) using the fence_xvmd-fence_xvm deamon and agents; that will allow me to

Linux server, Win2k client: Almost works, what am I missing?
Hello all.
A couple of days back I posted a question about how I could get a Win2K
client to mount a share from my linux Samba server. I was getting the
familiar "account is not authorized to log in from this station" error
on the Win2K box, despite a set-up that supposedly allowed guest logins
*and* implemented the registry hack for clear-text passwords on the
Win2k box.

win 2k3 / XP Pro to Samba 3.0.1 open failed, result=-512
I'm having some confusing problems transferring approximately 16GB, in
about 541,000 individual files.
What is happening is that I am starting with a blank destination
directory on a gentoo system running samba 3.0.1, and pulling from one
of two windows systems. The problems come in that each time I use rsync
(version 2.5.7) over samba to keep the data on the gentoo system's side
in sync
