smbd out of control processes
This is a follow on to the previous post about smbd bringing down a machine. I'm running samba 2.2.5. I've limited the number of smbd processes, so at least the machine doesn't stop working, but samba still stops working occasionally. Here is what smbstatus shows: atgdet05:/usr/local/samba/bin% sudo ./smbstatus -d using configfile = /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf Opened

runaway samba, non-responsive daemons
Hello, I am wondering if someone may have experienced this or might know what is happening. First, let me lay out the ground work so you understand our environment. We have several large servers (dual processors, gig of ram, 300+gig drive space) that are running redhat versions 7.0-7.3. Some of the severs are running samba 2.2.5, 2.2.5 (with spoolss patches), 2.2.4. We have a samba PDC

8 char passwords on Windows XP
I just solved the problem I reported previously with Windows XP not working correctly with security = user. Apparently, Windows XP truncates passwords to 8 characters in length before sending them off to the server. I don't think this happened with previous versions of windows, but I don't have any older versions to check this out. Josh ===== -- --

secrets.tbd going corrupt on powerfailure?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 We're power failing a unit before it goes into production, and we've noticed that every time we fail it during a data transfer, smbd loses the domain connection. I've traced it down to the secrets.tdb file. After a power failure, tdbdump secrets.tdb says: { key = "SECRETS/SID/IN28C29E" data =

strange printing problem
Hi folks, First of all I have a well-working samba-2.2.2-20011013 on a Redhat 7.1 with 2.4.7. (Fast like a thunder 8-). Good job guys!) But. I have a little problem with printing: At my work we have only NT 4.0 workstations on our LAN with sp6a or sp5. This problem is appearing when a client try to print onto a printer attached to samba. Sometimes. But sometimes not. > api_net_sam_logon:

oplock_break and Excel data corruption with Samba 2.2.3a
Hi everyone, Just today one of our users informed me that a file she was working on in Microsoft Excel 97 got corrupted. She was working on the file directly on our server, which is running Samba 2.2.3a compiled using gcc-3.0.4 on Linux kernel 2.4.17-xfs and XFS-based filesystems. I checked the Samba logs for her machine and found the following in a search for the filename of the Excel file she

Odd tdb cups/samba Printing Problem
Hello, I am running SuSE 8.1 (2.4.19) with an installation of Samba 2.2.5 with Cups 1.1.15 from the distro CD's. I'm having a strange problem when printing from a Windows 2000 laptop to the printer (HP882c using hpijs) connected to the SuSE samba box via USB. Printing starts and usually works for a little while, but after a few minutes/pages printing stops, usually in the middle of

WINBIND idmap and tdbfiles while upgrading to 3.0.20a
Hello everybody, had anyone of you problems with winbind and tdbfiles, when upgrading from 3.0.14a to 3.0.20a? The Symptom was: After upgrading to 3.0.20a the idmapping was corrupt. Although 3.0.20a runs fine, none of the idmaping was resolved correctly. Downgrading to 3.0.14a "restored" the idmaps. tdbdump showed me the same idmappings, therefor i think winbind wasn't able

Accessing Samba Shares from Windows
Hello, We are using machines with Solaris and Windows XP. The XP machines are joined in a domain(windows 2003) and the Solaris machines are not joined to any domain. With Samba 2.2.8a running on Solaris 9 there are no problems to access them form Windows XP. We are authenticated by DC. On other machines we have Solaris 10 with Samba 3.0.21b and here we are NOT authenticated anymore by DC. So we

Overloaded samba server. Is it a bug?
Experts, We've just migrated from samba 2.2.8a to samba 3.0.20b in a very large corporate environment. Everything was really fine in our lab, but we began experiment serious load problems on the productive servers the morning after the procedure took place. I'll try (briefly) to describe the characteristics of the scenario: Resources: Old Environment: Hardware:

nmbd Hogging CPU on Mac OSX (10.5.4)
Hi All, Firstly, I know this is a MacOS X issue and not sure if you guys can help, but I'm really hoping you can since I don't appear to be getting any joy elsewhere. Running OSX 10.5.4 and recently (last week) nmbd is hogging the CPU. I know this is a part of the Samba server on OSX, hence the post to this mail-list. When I disconnect from the network, nmbd goes away and doesn't
