Welcome to the wacky world of Epochs. If you do a normal package query,
you'll get information about version and release numbers:
$ rpm -q kdevelop
kdevelop-2.1.5-6
What you don't ordinary see is the epoch number:
$ rpm -q --qf '%{name} %{epoch}:%{version}-%{release}\n' kdevelop
kdevelop 8:2.1.5-6
What you need to do is define an "Epoch:" header in your spec file
that's as large as that of the package you're replacing (in this case,
"8").
