smbclient to access limited networks?
I am new to this ML and am sorry if this question has been answered already. I have a firewall router running Linux having two Ethernet ports (i.e. access to two networks) for INTRANET and INTERNET. This firewall needs to run smbclient to access a share on a Win2K host in the INTRANET. Looking into the Linux kernel message log, I found smbclient is broadcasting NetBIOS name service queries to

Samba SWAT 2.2.7 Doesn't Work in Redhat8.0?
Hello All Samba-list Members, I have installed a Samba 2.2.7, the samba-latest.tar.gz, as a PDC on a Redhat8.0 GNU/Linux server. ( Of course, I first uninstalled the original samba that came with the Redhat installation CDs by rpm -e samba*.) The installation was successful. Then I modified /etc/services and /etc/xinetd.d/swat as suggested in the installation document uncompressed from

Is there a way?
Is there a way to make clients not see "hidden" shares? Like we have an "I:" drive, but it's actually a "Common-Share"... Thoughts? Joel

Creating a Briefcase on Samba shares?
Is there a way to successfully create a working Briefcase on Samba shares? When I create one in a Samba share, it has a regular folder icon with a desktop.ini file in it. Openning it reveals a plain folder rather than the usual Briefcase applet. When I create one on a Windows NT network share it works fine, but all our big filesystems are unix-based Samba shares rather than NT shares. -Ernie

Printing from Linux to Windows 2000
I've seen a lot on printing from Win boxes to printers on Linux boxes. I've found very little on printing from Linux to Windows printers. The HOWTO has some information and I've found several other sources, but I still can't get my Linux box to print to a Windows 2000 printer. I'm using Mandrake Linux 8.2, Samba 2.2.3a, CUPS (I'm not sure of the version, I think

2 Probs: Mangled Case & Briefcase
Hi, I have a Samba 2.2.3a-6 server running on top of Debian Woody. There are two things I still have problems with. Number one is case mangling. I have set "mangle case = Yes" in [global] and left all other options related to case at their default and it works to some extent. But for example I cannot rename "whatever.txt" to "WhatEver.txt". The way it works is

Windows 95 Briefcase
Hello everyone... I have been using Samba v1.9.16p11 for a little while now and I just noticed that when I create a Windows 95 Briefcase on a Samba drive it appears as a folder (directory). This also happens when I move a briefcase created on a local drive to the network. I admit a small degree of ignorance here because I do not have an NT box to test the setup with so I do not know if this is

XP load roaming profile only after reboot
Hello, I have a problem with Samba 2.2.5 and Win XP roaming profiles. All works fine. XP load the profile from the server at login and stores them on the server at log out. But if the user logs in twice, XP does not load the profile from the server, it uses its local profile also if the profile on the server is newer. After a reboot XP loads the server profile once again. If I disable local

Upgrade failed? 2.2.5-pre1 to 2.2.7
Hello, I downloaded the source, followed the instaructions to the T (make, install, etc...). Everything seemed to go fine, I think the compilation and installation were flawless (after all, I have compiled 2.2.5 sucessfully, and havent done anything to this box as far as removing software libraries), there were no reported errors. The install portion even had the messages saying all went well,
