Re: Samba - root preexec & login scripts
Last night at home, and on a second system today at work, I tried
putting in the sample preexec statement contained in the smb.conf man
page to check it's effect on the domain logons. Just like the preexec
for the perl script it kills domain logons. As that script is right in
the smb.conf man page I'd certainly expect that to work.
As one final shot at this I'll post my smb.conf for

unable to join 2000 to samba domain
I have a situation where some 2000 machines are unable to join the samba
domain. We have about 50 machines of which two thirds are 2000 boxes.
All of the 9x boxes log to the samba domain with no trouble. Of the 2000
machines we have two groups - some IBM's and some Dell's with the Dell's
being a couple of months older. All of the IBM's joined the domain
without problems. None of

root prexec/postexec & login scripts
I have a perl script that I'd like to use to create windows 9x login
scripts at login time but I cannot get the process to work right. I have
RedHat 7.3 (actually the k12ltsp v2.1.0 which is a modified RH7.3) set
up as a domain controller which is working well. Manually created login
scripts run fine on the workstations at login. I'm using a netlogon
script I found at

Samba 2.2.5 - can't initialize locking module`
I have just upgraded a RedHat 6.2 box from Samba 2.0.10 to Samba 2.2.5
in one of our elementary school buildings because we now have some w2k
boxes that must log to the domain. I'm now getting an error on
initializing the locking modules when I run smbstatus. I did the upgrade
remotely so I don't know yet whether workstations work properly with the
upgrade.

Samba 3 by Example & Migrations
One topic I can't find in either Samba 3 by Example or the Offical Samba
3 Howto & Reference Guide is that of migrating from a Samba3 server to a
newer Samba 3 server (meaning newer hardware in this case).
We are currently using the smbpasswd backend. I plan to move to tdbsam
but that hasn't been done yet. All of the servers in question are
running either whitebox 3 or redhat 9

accessing function arguments as text, macro style
Hi. In a case like this, I can get strip headings that have the name
"c" and the value for c.
d <- data.frame(a=1:5,b=6:10,c=11:15)
> xyplot(a ~ b | paste("c", c), data=d)

For more complicated examples, instead of using paste repeatedly I
would like to use a function. It seems like what I really want is a
macro, though. I'm not quite familiar enough

Giving up on authentication to trusted domain
I've pretty much decided that this doesn't work, but I'd like to
take this last opportunity to find out if ANYONE has a working
configuration like mine:
Samba server: v2.2.3a running on a RedHat Linux 7.2 system, plus
Winbind. The Samba server is in the PHS-SC domain, and can be
browsed from "My Network Places".
User "cbenson" has an NT account in the FHCRC domain

Disappointed
I have subscribed to this list for about a month now.
I am just a MarkDown user; new to it. Using it within *Ema Personal Wiki &
Epistle* for Android.
I am not trying to implement this cool little light language into an app I
am developing; maybe someday.
I signed up because I thought I might get some MarkDown use tips.
*I have learned nothing from this list.*

NT user name doesn't match unix username when winbindd is running
We are testing winbind and security=domain to authenticate NT users on our
UNIX box in samba (v2.2.3a). Winbind is working correctly. Wbinfo shows
users as domainname+username (we are using "+" as the separator), however,
the NT usernames aren't automatically mapping to their corresponding UNIX
usernames as expected. Perhaps I don't understand how this is supposed to
work?

SMTP Proxy
Hi,
I have found a message on this mailing list dated August/2012 in
which is said that dovecot could not (at least at that time) do SMTP
Authentication using Proxy Features.
http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2012-August/067998.html
is this still true, given i'm using latest stable dovecot, v2.2.5 ?

Logon time restrictions?
Hiya all!
I've browsed to lots of doc. Files, but I can't find a good answer. Is it
possible to set logon time restrictions to users when Samba operates as a
PDC, controlling Windows XP Pro clients?
We're in the need to have different time restrictions based on user groups
as well as individual users.
Currently we run Samba v2.2.5, but will upgrade if needed.

Winbind unknown parameter
Hi all,
I'm using winbind with PAM to create a mail server for private mails in my
company and I would like to use the 2000 DC to authenticate the user.
It seems to work fine except the users name I get are in the form
DOMAIN+user and I woul like my user to have mail address like user@my.domain
and not DOMAIN+user@my.domain.
There is an option named : "winbind use default domain

'Little' problems with Samba v2.2.3a-12.3 (Debian Woody) and PRINTERS !!
Hi,
I am using Samba (v2.2.3a-12.3 on stable Debian Woody) on a bi-cpu server
(named MYSRV) acting as a primary domain controller. All works well except
for printers where I have severals little problems. I use LPRng (v3.8.10-1.2
on stable Debian Woody) as my linux lpd spooler on my server. I have 2
printers : one HP LaserJet 4000N (named nss.1er) and one HP LaserJet 4050N
(named nss.rdc).

I have set up Dovecot v2.2.5 with application-specific passwords, along the lines of this blog post (http://www.dgsiegel.net/news/2013_05_21-application_specific_passwords_for_dovecot).
My users file looks like:

netlogon script generation
Can anyone point me to a doc or a script that shows how to generate netlogon script on the
fly and supports users having multiple groups? I tried the Perl script referenced at
<http://us2.samba.org/samba/docs/man/AdvancedNetworkManagement.html> but I believe it only
supports the user being a member of one group.
