Make Install Problems
I'm in the process of installing openssh 2.5.1p2 and the make install step fails. I did the build without problems. Now when I attempt to do the make install it fails with the output below. Software build process should have to separate steps. A build step and an install step. The install step should not create or modify any files in the tree structure as this will fail when a root user is

Too many open files, Bug 3342
We submitted bug 3342 on Dec. 20th, Too many open files. It has not moved from the new state. So lets try here. We have Dell Quad Xeon server that we end up rebooting about every 2-3 weeks when the number of open samba files sky rockets. The system is a ClearCase server system. We have been monitoring this system for a few months now and are not able to pin down a cause to this issue. The system

No Sound via Sip Phone
Hi, I just setup a box with RH 9, and latest asterisk via CVS. The box as a T100P card in it that is currently hooked up to nothing. I did have the sample configs in place via make samples, and the only change I made was to add an entry to sip.conf for my Cisco 7960. When I dial 1000 to get to the main greeting I hear nothing, though the command line output looks fine to me. Any ideas? --

Local and remote back up behave differently
I have run out of ideas on why the local and remote back ups done with the script below behave differently. The local always seems to be a complete back up while the remotes are delta back ups except on Mondays. Cron line example: /root/bin/backups /export/home redwood "--exclude='*.sock' --exclude='*cache*' --exclude=/export/home/*/.gvfs" #!/bin/bash # Script for one

question about snarf plugin in dovecot 2
I'm trying to get the snarf plugin working with dovecot 2.0.7. Specifically, I want to use the UW-IMAP style optional snarfing. I'm looking at the wiki2 documentation. The first question is whether the UW-IMAP optional snarfing will require any changes to the mail_location. The first section suggests (but doesn't specifically state, which I'd propose be clarified) that

chan_sip errors on CVS HEAD
I've got a test * server (hppbx) where I install CVS-HEAD as often as possible, with my extension registered to this, talking through IAX to our production server which then channels out to the PSTN. After completing a call just now, the following appeared on the CLI of hppbx (the 90xxxxxxxxxxx is a valid number, changed to protect the guilty): == Spawn extension (from-sip,

X won't start
This machine is running CentOS 5.3, fully updated Linux mavis.localdomain 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 #1 SMP Wed Apr 1 09:19:18 EDT 2009 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux. Video is an ATI Radeon 9000. X froze overnight and attempts to restart it fail. I tried an old kernel (2.6.18-92.1.22.el5) before realizing that root can start X and a virgin user can start X. I still can't use my original user name.

"virsh list --all" is intermittently causing a shutdown client to boot?
Hello, I have a CentOS 7 client running on a CentOS 7 server.  "virsh --version" reports that 3.9.0 is being used. I'm issuing a "virsh shutdown" command to shutdown the client.  I then confirm that the client has actually shutdown using "virsh list --all". Lately I've been seeing instances where I shutdown the client, turn away to work on something else, and

find data (date) gaps in time series
Dear R users, I have a time series of precipitation data. The time series comprises ~ 20 years and it is supposed to be constant (one value per day), but due to some failure of the measuring device some days or periods are missing. I would like to find these missing days or periods just to get a first idea about the reliability of the measurements. The only function I could find was

[LLVMdev] stack switching?
Are there any plans to add stack switching to LLVM? I've seen a few proposals for it floating around (some even implemented): http://ulir.ul.ie/handle/10344/2927 (implemented in: https://github.com/stedolan/llvm) https://code.google.com/p/llvm-stack-switch/ But I couldn't find any discussion of whether there was a plan to integrate one of these. Any plans to add this feature? Thanks,

UW-IMAP style mbox snarfing from /var/mail/ to ~/mbox
http://dovecot.org/patches/mbox-snarf-plugin.c Also committed to CVS HEAD. Usage: mail_location = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u protocol imap { mail_plugins = mbox_snarf } protocol pop3 { mail_plugins = mbox_snarf } plugin { mbox_snarf = ~/mbox } If ~/mbox doesn't exist, nothing special is done. If ~/mbox exists, it's treated as INBOX and mails are moved from /var/mail/%u

Antialiasing plots and text on different devices
I have a question about antialiasing when R generates bitmaps. (This follows a thread on the ggplot2 mailing list.) I mostly use R on Linux, although I sometimes use it in Mac and Windows as well. On Linux, I've found that plotting shapes 15-18 via cairo results in bad-looking output. The points are not antialiased, and they are jagged and misshapen. Plots generated in Windows also aren't
