Samba 2.2.0 bug.
Ill report this as a bug, since I havent had any response to my question about
it on the mailing lists.
I am trying to get at the /smb file system.
My understanding is to do this I MUST go thru the smbsh.
When I try executing smbsh, I see:
[reg@orion bin]$ smbsh
Username: rwclemens
Password:
ERROR: can't get smbw shared lock (Invalid argument)
Looking at the code its not

PDF * powerpoint files need the x bit set under linux
We are trying to migrate to samba from NT4 data servers, We don't currently
allow users the execute permission on data drives, so I have setup data
drives with a creat mask of 0660 which seems ok. The problem I'm having it
that both powerpoint and PDF files seem to need the 'x' bit set before users
can edit or open the files. Has anybody else had this problem? and if so
could you

NET RPC calls fails
Hi Samba folks!
I have a problem concerning RPC calls.
In a domain environment running 3.0.3pre2 I have no problems shutting
down remote computers.
I now have a small environment with only 2 computers in a workgroup.
My samba server is running on a FreeBSD 5.4 box and my client is a
Win XP Pro SP2 box.
When I try to use net rpc shutdown -I 192.168.1.50 -U Administrator i

ubuntu, ocfs2 with cman and ctdb
hi guys,
we're evaluating the available clustering options to get ctdb up and running
for a highly available file server.
we've set up both gluster and ocfs2 both on seperate 2 node setups.
ocfs2 seems to provide better throughput and iops to samba clients than does
gluster and that is comparing a single node server to a ctdb clustered 2
node server.
problem with ocfs2 is that i've

RES: Samba 3.0.2a with ADS w2k3 Active Directory, enctype s
Hi Jim,
I did what the doc says but the problem is the same.
Does anybody saw this work ? I mean, is the Samba 3.0.2a+Kerberos MIT 1.3.3
able to be accessed by a WXP, W2K or W2K3 machine, using Kerberos tickets
generated in a Windows 2003 KDC (W2K3 AD) ?
Thanks

ACLs on client Samba machines with Samba PDC.
I've got a Samba box (2.2.5a) as a member of a Samba domain. Both the PDC
and client are running 2.4.18 with XFS and ACLs compiled in. Problem: on
the client, I can -NOT- modify the ACLs for files from Windows. (Note
that I can modify the stock Unix permissions, but not the extended
users/permissions that ACL support offers.) If I try, they just vanish
when I click "OK".

SAMBA on AIX
Hi everyone,
I run to some confusion here and hope someone give me a answer before I
implement it.
I am trying to install samba2.05 on my AIX 4.3.1, but the binary file in the
web site is for AIX 4.3.2. Can I still use the binary file for my
installation on AIX 4.3.1 ?
Thanks !

Samba On The Mainframe
Greetings,
This is my first posting. I read that Samba can run on USS OS/390 but are
there tips or tricks that can be shared? I am a AIX systems engineer
(13mos) with 13 years experience as a MVS systems guy. Our current release
of OS/390 is 2.8 . I already found a lot of information about Samba on
OS/390 in the download page and I'm trying to make sense of it. But if there
is any

Samba with IBM Directory Server
Hi,
I can successfully run Samba (v2.2.10 or v 3.0.10) in the smbpasswd mode.
However, I cannot get it to connect to the IBM LDAP server (IDS v5.2).
Can someone point me to a doc or web site for this?
Thanks,

Dear all,
I have two samba servers auth agains ldap, so I use:
idmap backend = ldap:ldap://127.0.0.1
Is it possible to setup ctdb to run with a ldap backend?
I know ctdb uses:

samba file server with heartbeat and drbd
Hello,
While working on heartbeat/pacemaker for a web service stored on drbd, I've
thought what I've learnt could also be applied to samba in order to build a
fault tolerant file server in our domain.
While digging samba's doc, I've found that CTDB could also fulfill the need
and is maybe better suited as it's samba-related.
But on the other hand, I'd appreciate to begin

OT: Jerry seems like such a polite chap
I always smile to myself when reading the replies on the mailing list from
Gerald (jerry) Carter. That cheers at the end of everything always makes it
seem that he is such a nice person. Of course half the reason I smile to
myself is the inanity of getting that impression from one word in an e-mail.
For all I know he is a complete jerk. And even the huge power lifters at

I have a client who wishes to implement SAMABA in a windows 2k AD

The client has not moved to wk2 as yet. Can Samba be use for w2k mixed

Problem with sambaMunged Dial
I've had a problem since I had installed samba with ldap support.
It's impossible deleting and managing [ex.: add user to a group] the
user; only with smbldap-tools.
When I try to manage new user with usermgr.exe, who's added the log
tell me:

Given that samba is a pretty active development, any thoughts of a

In openSUSE, the current kernel distribution usually freezes
applications like samba at the current level. Is there an easy way
(besides using wget on each module, and rpm on each module to install

net ads dns register
Hello,
I would like to know whether it is possible to select (a) specific
IP(s) for a "net ads dns register" call. The reason for my question is
that we have setups with several interfaces, a few of which are
"internal" interfaces but technically they're ethernet interfaces.
Adding all those internal interfaces to a Windows AD server leads to
the DNS server giving out the
