samba and oplocks and office applications
I'm using samba version 2.2.1a on a linux RH7.2 kernel 2.4.7-10.
I'm having a lot of oplock problems, specially when using office
applications like word.
I would like to know:
1. what is the recommended configuration in version 2.2.1a (oplocks = yes/no
, level2 oplocks = yes/no , kernel oplocks = yes/no)
2. what is considered to be a stable version for oplocks usage
Thanks,
Nir

using VSS on a samba server - no smb locks ?
Hi all,
We are considering moving our VSS database from a Win2K server to a samba server.
All clients are Win2K clients.
I used the VSS tool "testlock.exe" to make sure the native lock mode can be used.
The test was successful, and I saw that an SMBlock transaction was performed, and a reply_lockingX was replied.
When I opened a VSS database on the samba server and started to use it -

Polycom 601 Contacts List
Good morning,
I have a Polycom 601 with two side cars. I created a list of contacts in XML and it shows up on the side cars exaclty how I set it up in the XXXXXXXXXXXX-directory.xml file (in the order that I wanted it etc.). However when I hit the directories button and then contact directory I see the list in alphabetical order based on the last name. I want it to show up in this list as well in

So, why I can't see any samba server from browser list?

samba server crash and locking.tdb
Hi all,
Please excuse me if this question is not appropriate for this forum:
Lets assume that samba server crashed or was shut down abnormally, while
users where holding open files in the server.
In this case, I've noticed that locking.tdb is not being cleaned when
samba is restarting.
I was wondering why shouldn't it be cleaned.

(no subject)
I'm looking at getting the Dev light applications from digium
and I have 2 Createive Labs voip blasters. The voip blaster supports the
G.723.1 codec. After looking at Gnome meeting it does not talk unless you have a
quicknet card for it. Can I make calls using asterisk and the digium cards to the Voip blaster.

I copied the chan_sip2.c file into the channels directory..
I am not sure what I need to do exaclty in the Makefile to get chan_sip2

Any help and anything to be careful of in chan_sip2 would be usefull..

FreeBSD: net/samba43's NSUPDATE
Hello.
Forgive me, but I'm quite new to AD and I've been searching the web for
a couple of days, but found nothing relevant...
What's exaclty the NSUPDATE option of this port?
Is it intended to work with BIND (like the other two in that group)?
What are its requirements?
Any reference to a tutorial or any other documentation on how to use it?
bye & Thanks

robust correlation in R
Dear R user group,
I'm looking for a robust mesure of correlation in R.
I found a very interesting article by Dr Rich Herrington on
http://www.unt.edu/benchmarks/archives/2001/december01/rss.htm and I'd like
to implement
exaclty this method but my problem is that everything is here developped in
R language and is very slow when the correlation matrix is important.
I'm wondering if

RAMDisk vs Extarnal server for recording
I'm having loads of problems with recordings, as in crappy audio quality and
lost pieces of the recordings. I've been searching for a solution and the
solutions i find on the interwebs include a ramdisk, for local recording, or
another machine, handling the recording. I guess the ramdisk would be the
"easy" solution and the external machine would be little harder to set up.

RTP Media Path
I know this has been asked before and I went over the wiki but I have not been able to come to a clear answer.
1) If I have SIP Provider ----> Asterisk -----> ATA and vice versa (ATA -----> Asterisk ----> SIP Provider) from what I understand if NO NAT is being used then asterisk just starts and stops the session however the RTP media stream will be passed directly from the SIP

Re: R vrs S
Hi, I am relatively new to R programming. I have Guido's version on a
Win95 Pentium with 32 Mb RAM.
I tried to compile the Package MIXREG of Rolf Turner in S to R
almost everything works OK but he has a function po = partial outer
product as follows:
po <- function(a,b) {
array(apply(b,2,"*",a),dim=c(dim(a),dim(b)[2]))) }
in S-Plus given

update encypted and LDAP
Hello all,
I'm currently trying out samba-3.0alpha24 and moving to samba-3.0.0beta1
since we're getting into XP and encrypted passwords etc. I was hoping to
set everyone (about 13,000 users) up on an LDAP (openLDAP) server with
just the Unix crypt passwords for now and run with
encrypt passwords = no
update encrypted = yes
for a while to populate the NT/LM password hashes before

OTP authentication
If I were going to do this, I would probably try moving to a Windows
200x AD domain controller, and implementing RSA SecurID on that
machine. I have not worked with other OTP solutions.
As far as I understand, if Samba is configured as a domain controller,
it expects to be able to handle the authentication itself.
OTP is , in my opinion, most valuable when you are exposing resources to

Trusted domains with Samba 3.0alpha21?
Hi there!
I appear to be having problems with trusted domains using 3.0a21.
Using Samba as a member server, as user "nirs" on domain "Exanet-il" I
am unable to log on to a member server ("snow") who is a member of the
"Exanet-qa" domain. The "exanet-qa" is supposed to trust "exanet-il",
and it all worked with 2.2 . This is the relevant

To start with, I'd like to praise the entire Samba Team, Samba 2.2.3.a

Now that the "cheese" is over with...

Precedence of usernames w/Winbind
I might be missing obvious here, but here goes:
Samba 2.2.4.
Using "winbind use default domain = <DOMAIN>" option usernames map
correctly, however, when logging on from an W2K machine I still get
the autogenerated UID instead of my NIS (Or /etc/passwd) UID.
Both nis and files precede winbind in /etc/nsswitch.conf
Commenting out winbind from /etc/nsswitch.conf works, which
