Problems with CUPS and a networked epson printer
I have an Epson Stylus Color 880, connected to our network via an external ethernet printserver. I used to run lprng on the samba server (which is a domain controller), and the Windows clients had one minor problem accessing this printer via Samba (2.2.3a, then): Every time a client wanted to print, the Epson status monitor on the client would complain about communication problems with the

Compile Samba-2.2.4
As the list probably already knows I'm fairly new to Linux / Samba. Please bare with me. =) I've managed to compile Samba-2.2.4. The first compile went wrong using the "configure -with ldap" command (something like that). Anyway 2 days later after apt-get' ting any packages with "lib" and those that sound like they belong in the build =) I got it to compile

Domain renaming problem.
Hay guys, I'm looking for some advice here. The company I work for is implementing Windows 2000 workstations in the future. At the moment we have Samba 2.2.4 acting as an NT 4.0 PDC, with out a problem I might add. But alas the rest of the people here in my company will not even think about running Linux. So I'm going to have to move over to a Windows 2000 / XP DC. My problem is that

Problem with Samba 2.2.4
My Problem is: I can't connect with a Win2kmachine to Sambaserver2 witch get the passwords on Sambaserver1. I can create the machine account, but I can't login with a user. Also i have to create a smbpasswd (with the machineaccount only) on Sambaserver2, otherwise the Sambaserver2 isn't able to check the W2kclients machineaccount on sambaserver1 and the message appears "Can't

how to disable homedirs?
Hi, how can i disable the homedir? I have a Domain login configuration, but do not want server based profiles. After I add a workstation to the domain, the user profiles, created during the first login of a domain user, on that machine are always server based. Sure, I can change this profile to a local profile, but I think I can change this it in the samba configuration, that all profiles are

I'm noticing True and False seem to be interchangeable with Yes and No in smb.conf. Can someone confirm? Does this apply to all params?

Samba y Windows 2000!!
Dear friends, Finally, we've had successfull with Samba. We think so ??. But now, we've other problem. At these moment, we can mount resource from PC with Windows 98 in our Linux. We can do this, either commands of Samba - smbmount - or with Komba2, that we've installed. But, we can't mount resources from Windows 2000. There is a machine with these operating system and with a

rename user login
Hi there, Is there a way to rename a user login with smbpasswd or any other utility? A user had a name change and I could not find any command that would facilitate the change. printing problems and permissions
I've got Samba 2.2.3 running as a PDC for some Win9x and WinNT clients. Everything seems to be fine except that occasionally (but rather often, at least every second day) printing from one of the NT-clients is impossible. In the log file it says (word wrap here in the editor): [2002/02/26 18:04:21, 0] printing/printing.c:print_job_start(952) print_job_start: insufficient permissions to open

IP Binding
Hi all, New to Samba here so please bear with dumb questions. I have a server that's currently running SMB shares off of device 10.0.0.1 on a private network. It has a second device, 10.0.0.2 that I would like to add to the device bindings for Samba. I've tried this in the smb.conf file but it doesn't seem to work. Here's what I tried: workgroup = SOMECOMPANY netbios

Roaming profiles problem - loading failure
I have a samba 2.2.4 PDC which acts as the repository of roaming profiles. Just recently some of our users have experienced failure to load roaming profiles. The clients are on a pair of Windows 2000 terminal servers. The failure does not seem to be confined to one server and only affects some people. The error given takes place during the loading profile stage: Windows can not copy: \\Samba

Samba as a PDC for W2K Network
Hi all. I hope someone here can help me with a bit of trouble I seem to be having with Samba and Windows 2000. Here's the deal: We are attempting to setup a Red Hat 7.3 machine (SYMPHONY2) running Samba 2.2.3a to act as a File Server and PDC for a number of Windows 2000 workstations. I have followed the instructions from http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html but

Switching to another Samba server
I've been running Samba 2.2.2 for a while as a domain controller on my mostly Windows network. It's been working great up to this point. Anyway, I just put together a new Linux server and installed 2.2.2 on it as well. I copied the conf file and pretty much mirrored everything on the existing server, changed the paths and the "workgroup" field in the conf file to match the new

Domain Names Registration Problems
Hi! Recently I have installed Samba 2.0.5a on SCO OpenServer 5.0.2c with numerous patches. And now have upgraded to 2.0.6. But problem remains. I have OS/2 Warp Servers and several subnetworks with routers and I try to use samba for access UNIX files and name resolution ( w/WINS) . It works. But domain names registers in wins.dat with ip-address 255.255.255.255 instead of domain controller

[print$] again
Some days ago, you helped me getting rid of old printer driver information, that worked well. I have now setup a different printer for the same network printer box, one that beautifully installs its drivers locally with the Add Printer Wizard. So I thought, why not try again and install the drivers to the samba server? I followed the instructions in htmldocs/printer_driver2.html and could copy

Bug#295560: logcheck: Please include filename when reporting "invalid regular expression"
Package: logcheck Version: 1.2.34 Severity: wishlist I have a couple of home-made logcheck ignore files, and happened to have one unescaped (and unmatched) `(' in one of the filter lines. Because of this, cron sent a mail with the body "grep: Invalid regular expression" - the subject is the command in the "2 * * * *" line in /etc/cron.d/logcheck, of course. It would be
