Debian Samba Versions
Hopefully a simple question. Does anyone know of .deb or .dsc files for Samba Version 2.2.4, 2.2.5, 2.2.6, or 2.2.7? The only packages available from Debian are: 1. Stable - Samba 2.2.3 2. Testing - Samba 2.2.3 3. Unstable - Samba 30alpha20-4 I've looked on the debian website and in google with no luck. Any help much appreciated? IRV

Samba 3.0 alpha20-2 and Win2k SP3
Is there anyone on the list that has been able to get Win2k SP3 working with the 3.0 alpha version? I'm able to join but I can NOT log in. I can see the machine account listed in pass.tdb (using pdbedit -l) and it is also in passwd & shadow. I HAVE ALSO APPLIED THE SIGN OR SEAL PATCH. The message I get is: "The system cannot log you on to this domain because the system's

RE: SWAT not working, can't authenticate
I have had this problem before. Never really got to the bottom of it but if you want to get on then just add '-a' to your swat command to disable authentication. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Myers [mailto:myersjj@us.ibm.com] Sent: 07 November 2002 21:08 To: SAMBA@SAMBA.ORG Subject: RE: [Samba] RE: SWAT not working, can't authenticate I had already done that, so it must be

RE: SWAT not working, can't authenticate
Did you make sure localhost resolves? Also, depending on your /etc/resolv.conf, you may have to fully qualify the host's name including the DNS domain. I seem to rember having problems with this, and some combination of using localhost or hostname.domain.edu or using the actual IP address of the host cleared up the problem. Samba Accross Lans
Hello All! I have Samba Version 2.999+3.0.alpha20-2. Just recently I tried to join the domain using the Win2k Wizard with no success. This functionality worked in the previous version of Samba V. 2.2.3a. If I'm on the same subnet though, it works like a charm. The error I receive is the following: "The following error occurred validating the name "mydomain" The specified

Compile Samba-2.2.4
As the list probably already knows I'm fairly new to Linux / Samba. Please bare with me. =) I've managed to compile Samba-2.2.4. The first compile went wrong using the "configure -with ldap" command (something like that). Anyway 2 days later after apt-get' ting any packages with "lib" and those that sound like they belong in the build =) I got it to compile

Backup
Hello All, I am setting up a samba backup UNIX box. It will periodically login onto a windoze box(with smbclient), pickup the files, and save them. The problem is that I couldn't make any error correction in case of power blackout or anything similar. That is, while backing up, if I shutdown the WIN machine, one I'm backing up, smbclient goes crazy, giving broken pipe error.

Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1
Hi Aki, (This message might not make it to the list; I have to switch back to the other dovecot to be able to send from that address) Oops; I did not think carefully enough about your instructions. Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1 (fwd)
Hi Aki, I am not 100% sure. I do not really know what my OS does. "ps -A" says dovecot is running, but if I say "sudo service dovecot stop", my email client works fine still (that is, assuming the old version of dovecot is installed). ie the on-demand instances of dovecot-imapd that Alpine calls are, I assume, started and stopped by Alpine. (?) Is my OS using dovecot

Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1 (fwd)
Hi Aki, Bingo! Putting that line in dovecot.conf rather than my custom file, and then using my old custom file, unchanged, from Alpine works perfectly. My only remaining question, then, would be ... what was this (change) about / or is there any documentation that I should/could have read to know what to do without asking a lead developer? Thank you very much. I hope you had a great start

Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1
I use a localhost dovecot imap server in order to access maildir folders from Alpine (see 2009 instructions for my set up here https://cpbl.wordpress.com/2009/11/07/alpine-offlineimap-and-gmail-under-ubuntu/ ) My configuration has worked nicely since 2009, but failed after a recent upgrade of dovecot (during basic upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to 18.10). The version of Alpine did not change.

Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1
Hi Aki, Yes, the same connect error: imap(meuser,)Error: net_connect_unix(/var/run/dovecot/stats-writer) failed: Permission denied The mail location in "doveconf -n" (belo) does not reflect my preferences. In Alpine, if I acknowledge the error I get, which tells me to add novalidate-cert in my pinerc file, it prompts me for my POSIX username and password. After that, I get my

Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1
Hello Stephan, I'm interested to see this get fixed (and ideally one day for it to be really easy for people to set up Alpine so that it competes fairly with heavier GUIs!), but I do not know that I am qualified to help (beyond light testing). Is there someone from Alpine on this thread? The second (askubuntu.com) link you give is my own question (and answer, based on Aki Tuomi's

Samba proposal document.
I have a project due at school and have chosen Samba servers to research. I am trying to find a source of information that discusses the corporate advantage to Samba. How much money can a company save in NT server licensing fees for example. Something that would help me write a fictitious business proposal. If anyone can quick point me in a direction here I would appreciate it.

Rookie Question - Change Computer Name
We have been able to successfully install / configure SAMBA on our LAN / WAN. Everything is working out just fine.. Just 1 little problem (And I'm sure it is something I screwed up or missed in the docs). When changing a computer name on the client PC (Win2k), I receive an "Access Denied" error. I've even tried using the root account to change the name with no avail.
