I have an Ultra 10 client running Sol10 U3 that has a zfs pool set up on the extra space of the internal ide disk. There''s just the one fs and it is shared with the sharenfs property. When this system reboots nfs/server ends up getting disabled and this is the error from the SMF logs: [ Apr 16 08:41:22 Executing start method ("/lib/svc/method/nfs-server start") ] [ Apr 16

Seems like WinXX clients cannot use NTP so can how can I sync them with my Samba box (which is accurate to within 200 ms!) TIA /B

How 'accurate' is time sync on the samba server?
Just as the subject states, how close and accurate can time synchronization be with Samba as a PDC and Windows Clients connecting to the PDC with net time? I have setup a logon script, so when all Win2k clients connect to the PDC, they will receive the logon script and use the PDC as their time server. What I have noticed in my testing is that it is not entirely 100% accurate? For example, I

basic LDAP authentication to Samba share from existin g directory
We use pGINA (www.pgina.org) to authenticate windows user logins via ldaps:// against the university directory. Don't know if that will fit your model, but it works for us. ---------------------------------------------- Tony Hoover, Network Administrator KSU - Salina, College of Technology and Aviation (785) 826-2660 "Don't Blend in..."

Samba 3.0.24 + OpenLDAP
I'm using the above version of Samba with OpenLDAP. I also use the smbldap-useradd script to add users, like below. I'm finding that I also have to have an account in /etc/passwd for the user to get in otherwise I get the message below. I thought that the ldapsam:ldap://localhost/ would not require the /etc/passwd entry. What did I miss? # Adding a User (doesn't work)

push, pull confusion.
I've been using rsync to back-up user files on samba shares. The idea was to capture the file changes from day to day work, back all changes and new files to a server with limited access. If someone wanted to delete the files, there would be a back-up of their work. While checking logs the other day, I noticed that on the files on the "backup server" where only a partial list

Problem with non-interactive shells on Sol8 with 3.7.1p1
We recently started upgrading OpenSSH on our Sol8 systems and we've run into a problem were we can run commands on a remote system since we installed 3.7.1p1. The debug output from sshd is attached below. We use PAM in our environment, and have since 2.9.9p2. I think most of the systems were running 3.4p1 prior installing 3.7.1p1 and they were working - the only thing we replaced was

Problem connecting to v2.9.9p2 on Solaris 8
I ran into a weird problem yesterday where Putty can't connect to my OpenSSH/Sol box (and still can't ever since). On the Putty side I get the error message: "internal fault: chaos in SSH 2 transport layer" I've attached the "sshd -d -d -d" syslog output. Any ideas what's going wrong here? From a layman's point of view, it would appear that Putty and

NTLM hash
I'm looking at the NTLM hash, I need to make my own. I was going to look at somehow using libsmb or something but don't really know how to. Can I do this in perl? I can make Unicode scalars and send those to md4_hex() to get the output, but I cannot get something to match what shows up in the /etc/samba/private/smbpasswd file. Ideas? Currently I try this: #!/usr/bin/perl -w use

file permissions with samba shares
I am wondering if there is a way I can setup permission on directories in the directory that I have setup for samba shares so that no one can move or delete them. The problem I am having of late is that someone from within windows will move the directories around . I think they do it not knowing they are doing it. Its happened several times of late now. I have always found the missing
