Will rpcclient ever get better?
I was wondering if anyone has heard of someone trying to improve on rpcclient, specifically regarding the printer-related commands. Also, it seems that rpcclient has trouble returning a large list of printers (enumprinters), like in the range of 200. Has anyone heard about this? Thanks in advance for replies :-) Thomas Klopf MMS - Gulf Region (ACS-GS contractor) -------------- next part

FreeBSD 4.5, Samba 2.2.4_1, W2K client "printer prope rties cannot be displayed"
I've experienced something like this, as well. Though I don't know if this will help, I would make sure that your NT username(s) are appropriately mapped to unix users. You may not be able to view the properties because the permissions/mapped user are mixed up. You can check this by doing a smbstatus - the user names listed as connected are the unix usernames that have been mapped to.

How to Cross compile Samba Source
Hi, I am using samba-2.2.8a.tar.gz source and complied for regular linux. Now I am trying to cross compile it, but do not have any guidelines on how to do it? Anyone can help me on, making cross compilation work for arm-linux host. Any help is appreciated. change_trust_account_password failing
samba 2.2.4 on RedHat 7.1 everything is working. wbinfo -t reports a good secret. users can access shares. the samba server shows up in the browser & server manager. However, this server is not able to change the password on it's machine account. I log the following errors once a day: May 29 08:16:33 rhtemp1 smbd[5056]: domain_client_validate: unable to fetch domain sid. May 29

windows print migrator + "add printer command"
Hi all. I was wondering if anyone had a successful exampel of using the "add printer command" with cups so that the windows print migrator could be utilised. Seeing as Jerry as spent time on this it would be a shame not to know how to use it. ;-) I'm guessing that it would be along the lines of: add printer command = lpadmin option1 option2 && cupsaddsmb option1 but

Here's the command line and error response: [root@chain samba]# smbpasswd -j COLUMBIA -r cmc-bkup -U murphyn Password: error creating domain user: NT_STATUS_INVALID_DOMAIN_ROLE Unable to join domain COLUMBIA. Print driver settings
Hello, We've installed a samba-printserver at a customer using a large number of Nashuatec-printers. Most of them are Optra T164, formerly known as NRG P6025 PS3. In our setup we defined 1 user (printadmin) which manages all printers. All printusers are mapped to guest. User printadmin installed the printdrivers on the server and the clients download the driver during their first connection.

printernames vs. sharenames
Hello, when I assign a printer driver to a printer from a windows client, the printername now changes to the drivername. Yes, I can see the SPOOLSS_SETPRINTER call with the printername property, but that's definitly not what I want (or would expect). E.g. when I change the drivers of 3 printers to HP Laserjet, I get 3 printers with the names "HP Laserjet [(Copy 1|2)]". These

New Printers with Samba 3.14 driver upload
Hello Everybody, we got new networkprinters and set them up. They work fine, but driverupload doesn't seem to work. We deleted the drivers used by the printers we had before. My question is should I also delete the .tdb files associated with printing? I remember driverupload once worked well with the printers we had before. Any advice would be nice. Jan Kellerhoff

SPOOLSV and XP PRO
Hi All I recently began having issues where there would be a runaway SMBD process listed in TOP, having a Pri of around 25, and using 70 to 95% CPU indefinitely. IPTRAF reports around 600kbps constantly in and out from the subject workstation, with nothing going on - on the workstation. This traffic is parallel to the runaway SMBD process ... the traffic dies when the SMBD process is

Win2000 Print subsystem shuts down
After installing print drivers to the my RH7.3 Samba 2.2.5 box, I have noticed the print subsystem shuts down, after receiving a spoolsv.dll error message (sorry, didn't write it down). This has happened on 3 different win2k machines, sp2. Once I reboot everything is fine. Ideas?

Win2k explorer.exe dies when dealing with printers
Hi there. I've been some days dealing with printing problems in Win2k clients, having a Samba 2.2.5 parched with "parse_sec.patch" as a printer server. When I try to print anything, explorer.exe dies. Sometimes dies spoolsv.exe, or sometimes all the system locks (it may be because explorer do not restart). It happens to all my Win2k clients with Service Pack 2, and only when using

Removing a Point And Print printer
I have a Samba 3.0.4 server that has several point and print printers which are functioning just fine. I have added another printer, an HP BusinessJet 1100d, and attempted to load the drivers on the Samba server for that printer (for WinNT, Win2K and WinXP). However, now, when attempting to check the properties of that printer from a WinXP client (pre SP2) I only get an error and the properties

PDF Printer issue
Hello Everyone, I have a slight issue with configuring a PDF printer on my Samba servers. I have input the following into my smb.conf file and it does create the printer as well as work to create PDF files, except that it only functions when "printing" to that printer via Excel 2002. If I attempt it with anything else, even the Windows Test print, it fails. Now, in the Windows

Can't run Active State perl .exe
I am having trouble running an exe that was written in Active State perl. In Windows, I would go to the CLI and type Code: C:\pager\pager.exe cl Passing "cl" as an arguement that passes the file "cl.config" to the pager.exe program. I have not had any success running this in Wine, and I do not know if it is a syntax problem or if Wine does not work with it. I have tried:

Problems with TDBs on CTDB-managed Samba instance
Hi Jeremy, Thanks so much for your reply! As a matter of fact, we did just that around 3:45p yesterday when our CTDB cluster was unable to self-heal from the latest in this series of failover events. Here's how the situation went down: 1) We saw flapping identical to that described in my original post 2) After about 30 minutes of waiting, CTDB was just spinning with `smbd` repeatedly

Name Resolution, Pinging
I am running redhat 7.3 with Samba 2.2.4. I was wondering if there was a way to use Samba to resolve my IPs instead of having to add all the entries to my /etc/hosts file? For instance, I would like to be able to do `ping acormany` instead of `ping <IP Address>`. We are currently using WINS on a Windows box to resolve the IPs. As of right now, I can `ping acormany` on a Windows system, but
