Method to verify existance of trust account?
I'm still fighting with getting a Samba server (RH Linux 7.2, kernel
2.4.9-21, samba 2.2.4) to join an NT domain (NT 4.0, SP6). Everything I've
read in the documentation indicates that this works well and readily, but I
cannot get it to work.
The error message received when attempting to join a domain is:
./smbpasswd -j TESTDOMAIN -r SMBTEST

winbind wbinfo -t secret is bad
Quick run down of my setup:
NT 4.0 PDC, Samba RedHat 8.0 with samba 2.2.5-10 on it.(Also used RedHat 7.2
with 2.2.6 final as well) with the exact same results.
When I run wbinfo -t, I get Secret is bad 0xc000018b. I have been trying to
figure this out for a few days now and can't get it working correctly. If I
run wbinfo -u, all of the users appears in the list, as well when I run

problem configuring smbd for domain authentication
Hello everyone, I am trying to configure a Samba 2.2 server to allow users to mount their home
directories (stored on a UNIX filesystem) from Windows after authenticating against a Windows 2000
Domain Controller.
The Samba server is 2.2.3a compiled with acl support on Solaris 8. I think I am experiencing some (hopefully)
basic configuration issues and can't seem to get it to work. I

Winbind problem when heavy loaded ...
Hello, Sambas,
Recently, I met a problem with my Samba 2.2.3a server.
It is configured as a Domain Member, sometimes I couldn't get user list
from PDC ( a Win2k server), but it come up again soon , say 5 seconds.
I had thought it is PDC's problem, but it seems PDC is fine. Are there
any other reasons will cause that?
Some log messages attached.

samba authentication not auth'ing
Trying to set up a SAMBA print server using SlackWare 8.1. Have
successfully joined it to the domain, but cannot browse into the shares, as
it constantly asks for a password, and refuses to accept any including root
and NTamdin accounts. Anybody have any ideas error logs and smb.conf are below.

security=domain problems
Hi all,
We are having some problems getting a solaris 9(sparc) file server
running samba 2.2.2 to authenticate aginst a windows NT 4 PDC. Let me
say first that this was all working at one time, then we had some data
corrumption on our NFS mounted /usr/local, and had to restore from tape.
Due to some issues with solaris ufsdump and ufsrestore, stuff was not
quite put back properly. We do

Win2k DC no longer authenticates for Samba shares
I have a win2k domain ... 2 of the client machines are Red Hat (7.3 and
8.0). I set everything up to use the DC to authenticate ID/PW. Everything
worked perfectly until a week or so ago ... Samba would automatically create
a home folder and the whole nine yards. Now I can see the shares on the
Samba machines, but I can't access them ... just prompts for the ID/PW over
and over. I can mount

Samba 3.0.3 on FC2: windows machine cannot join domain
I'm using Samba 3.0.3 on Fedora Core 2 with OpenLDAP 2.1.29 for a
backend. I'm getting to typical "The user name could not be found."
error upon trying to join a Windows box. I've gone through every digest
on lists.samba.org and other sites and nothing has worked yet. Any
suggestions:
Here's what I've done so far:

Re: Samba 3.0.3 on FC2: windows machine cannot join domain
After, oh, six months of attempts here and there to read everyone's
experiences with Samba/LDAP and inability for a windows 2000/XP machine
to join the domain, I finally discovered what was not working properly.
In my smb.conf I put:
add machine script = /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-useradd -w "%u"
As instructed by many How-to's and Idealx. However, I thought to myself,

problem with Samba in domain
Hello!
I have a samba fileserver (Debian Woody, Samba 2.2.3a) that I am
trying to join into an NT domain (smbpasswd -j ...); the command says that
it joined the domain successfully.
Then I setup security=domain, workgroup name etc. as outlined in the samba
howtos. However whenever I try to access a share on the Samba server I am
prompted for a password (even though I already logged in through

Samba corrupting files
Hi all,
We use samba here at our site as an interop solution for use with ClearCase.
I'm afraid I'm just a lowly ClearCase administrator not a Unix
administrator.
All our solaris servers are running Solaris 8 and we're using Samba version
2.2.2
First Question :
Our Unix Admin guy has said that we can't upgrade our version of Samba as
2.2.2 is the latest version that Sun have

Samba 2.x servers can't join Samba 3.0 domain
Hi
I updating my PDC from Samba-TNG to Samba 3.0 RC4 with LDAP.
The Windows clients and servers work fine but the Samba 2.x servers are
unable to join the domain.

workgroup = MYDOMAIN
security = domain
encrypt passwords = yes
password server = myserver

Joined samba to domain as per htmldocs/DOMAIN_MEMBER.html.

password server = charon
However, connecting to shares as non-guest fails due to
authentication problems (below).
As htmldocs/DOMAIN_MEMBER.html indicates this does work, is there some

Authentication problem with samba 2.2.5
We have started to upgrade or Unix servers from Samba 2.0.7 to Samba 2.2.5.
I did one machine as test and all worked fine. Today I tried adding two
more today and both come up with the "Incorrect password or unknown
username" box in Windows Explorer. All the Unix servers are running Solaris

NT password server problem (under heavy load)
hi,
i'm using samba on our HP-UX 11.11 server for years without problems.
the samba server is included to a NT domain. the password verification is done
on the NT PDC (WINNT01) or BDC (WTS01).
since some months our 250 clients update their VIRUS definition files every
2 days at 9 o'clock. (all together at the same time, the clocks are
sychronised. not really a good idea, i know.)

password server authentication
I have installed Samba 2.2.3a on a Solaris 2.6 box,
and it has been configured with a small smb.conf that
sets security = domain, workgroup = GFMNET, password server = GFMNET01,
I have succesfully joined domain GFMNET (controlled by
GFMNET01).
I can attach to resources anywhere in the domain from
this new box(E250), but any attempt to connect to its
resources results in failed authentication.

Problem with samba 2.2.3a configured to use domain security
I am having a problem with getting samba 2.2.3a to work with our current set
up. I used to have samba 2.0.7 working perfectly, but decided to upgrade to
try and get Win2k clients to be able to access the shares on the UNIX system
hosting samba.
When I try and access any of the shares on samba (it doesn't matter who the
client is) I get the following messages produced in the log file:

security = domain and Mac OS X
I've set up Samba on Mac OS X to do pass through authentication to
the nt domain in AD several times now. No big deal, it usually just
works.
Now, however, it doesn't appear to be working. Note the relevant part
of the transaction below (loglevel 4).
Steps to replicate:
a) Add pre-Win2K account with AD Users and computers
b) sudo smbpasswd -j EXAMPLE -r WINSERVER -U
