smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt
Hi,
I am deploying samba for an embedded system. The requirement is that the
system should be able to mount windows share points. I believe "smbmount,
smbumount and smbmnt" components are needed to do the same. I am not very
clear about smbmnt though!
I find that smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt are all quite huge. Around 300
to 400Kb each.
I understand that Samba is capable of doing

RedHat 7.3 smbmount
Hello,
I have a RedHat 7.3 workstation and have created a samba mount to my samba server. Everything seems to be working ok,
but when I reboot my RH workstation the mount is not reestablished. I believe the problem is that when I reboot the machine
the samba share is not unmounted. After rebooting the machine when I run smbstatus on the samba server it indicates the mount
is still active.

mounting a Samba volume on startup
Hi all, I've been trying to get an answer to this question for a long
time and in a lot of different places, but no luck.
Basically I want to mount an XP volume on my Linux machine at boot time
over Samba. The network is just an XP box and a Linux box, connected by
a crossover cable. The XP box is a gateway to the net (don't ask), with
two NICs, one internal, and one going to the

smbmount/smbumount getting rid of dead connections
I've got a win98 laptop and a linux box. On my linux box, I smbmount
a directory from the laptop. Alas, win98 boxes
crash a lot, and I move the laptop a lot... to and from work.
If the laptop crashes or if I move it with a shared directory mounted
on my linux box, that mount gets "Stuck".... it's
present in /etc/mtab but when I cd to it and do an ls it says:

smbfs
Hi-
I'm working on a graphical interface to smbclient/smbmount/smbumount.
As part of its operation, it will mount shares in directories under a
user's home directory.
I've run into a bit of a problem regarding the distributions of the
mount utilities, specifically on Redhat 5.1/5.2. They are shipping an
RPM with smbfs 2.0.1, which is known to have a security hole... so it

process hang when accessing a mounted smbfs
Hi all,
I installed the samba 3.0.3 on a Fedora Core 2 and then samba 3.0.6-1
and still have the following problem.
When I mount a smbfs, it sucesses but processes hang when they access
the mount point and smbumount returns "Device busy". Since even system
halt fails unmounting the filesystem, I have to switch off the machine.
I tested either with smbmount command, or /etc/fstab

Q. Minimal smbfs installation
Hi
I am trying to create a boot diskette(s) that is able to mount a remote
drive (on an NT server) using smbfs.
I have tried doing this, but I can't fit smbd, nmbd, smbmount and smbumount
all onto my root disk.
What is the minimum set of files required for smbfs to work?
What docs should I read to help me?
I am running RedHat 6.2 (with a custom kernel v 2.2.14, ntfs and network

Linux 2.2.0 and Samba client not happening for me
Dudes and/or Dudettes:
HEEELLLPPP! (such a newbie statement)
I can't get my remote SMB mounts to work on my Linux box.
duke was happily running Slackware Linux 2.0.36 and Samba 1.9.18p8 .
I upgraded to Linux 2.2.0pre9 (2.2.0final), which seemed to require
upgrading to Samba 2.0.0 . (I don't remember the exact errors)
Now i can't get my NT and '95 disks to stay mounted on

Unmountable Linux Samba mounts
Some of you might be familiar with the strange way that Linux will
sometimes disallow umount-ing or listing directory contents of a mounted
smb share, returning the error text, "Input/output error." I believe
this error happens when a smb share is mounted, then that remote share
is removed. This is a seriously annoying problem, because restarting
Samba does not solve the problem, nor

mounting an AD share upon login
Hi everyone,
I am having trouble mounting a share on my AD server upon login.
I am using pam_mount. Here is log activity when user 'peter' logs in
(with Ubuntu client) and is authenticated by AD server. There is a
share called 'peter' on the server (netbios name WIN2003) and the mount
point is /home/PRIVATE/peter (see later for pam_mount.conf file):

Update to Mounting Win 98 and 2k shares
Ok, typing:
mount -t smbfs -o username=username,password=password //Share/File /mnt
worked! It loaded the contents of the folder I wanted to acces into the mnt directory. This is goad, but I would like to store them all in one directory. I tired to do a ... /mnt/directoryname but it wouldn't work.
Also, how do I set things up so that Linux will automatically load this share on startup

smbmount & solaris 7
Has anyone out there had success with smbmount smbumount and solaris 7?
If so, please let me know how you installed it; ideally, I'd like to add
it using pkgadd.
So far I only have smbclient working.
Thanks,

fstab based shared user mounts not possible
Hi!
I first reported this issue as http://bugs.gentoo.org/136272
Mounting windows shares as a normal user causes quite a lot of trouble
for me, using samba 3.0.22.
I have this entry in my /etc/fstab:
> //workstation/share /mnt/mountpoint smbfs \
> user,noauto,username=un,password=pwd,uid=un,gid=users,\
> fmask=660,dmask=770,codepage=850 0 0

smbmnt and friends
Dear all
1) Could you happen to know why smbmnt, smbmount and smbumount are not
compiled whem I rum "make" from the source directory?
I found (for example) bin/testparms in the PROGS1 Makefile variable but
no reference to those little fellows.
2) How do I change the config directory to be /etc instead of
/usr/local/samba/lib? I tryed "./configure --sysconfdir=/etc" and it
