Using print$ / timeouts to port 445...
Hi... I have set up my smb.conf to use the print$ directive, and have shared 3 printers. I sucesfully added the printer drivers to the host, and can use them. But - opening up the printer connection from the windows host is slow, and causes the printer 'status' window to say 'initializing'. While that happens, my samba.log shows : 2003/07/29 16:44:40, 2]

host lookup while printing
I was experiencing a big delay in opening printers served from a Samba station on workstations running both Win2k and WinXP. The delay occurs whenever anything specific to the printer is opened. For example bringing up the job queue for the printer and opening the properties dialog for the printer both produce the delay. Cranking up the logging level and combing through showed the delay was

odd swat issues, odd printer issue, odd crashes..
Before I start, can you CC me if you respond as im not subscribed. thanks! (this is samba 3.0.4 on suse enterprise linux, kernel 2.6.5) first, the swat issue. I had a machine that had 2 network interface cards in it. I have since removed one card, mainly because it caused weird performace issues unrelated to samba. the interface addresses were 192.168.0.200 and 192.168.0.201 another machine now

Windows printing problems to Samba3.2
Help! I'm in the process of migrating my companies Windows NT print server to Samba 3.2. (yea) But I'm running into a few problems. (boo) I've searched the archives and google with no success... I have about 15 clients testing out the new server, mainly Win2k. Some work fine, but others have problems connecting, getting the "Unable to Connect" message in the printer folder.

Unable to join domain
I am attempting to have a Samba3-0.10 server join an NT domain with no success. Samba has been installed (./configure --with-syslog --with-acl-support) on a SunFire V240 with Solaris 9 as the OS. >From what I've read if the machine account exists on the domain then I should not have to provide a password. Why does the server want to connect to a client
Hi, I have 5 of 140 Windows XP SP2/SP3 machines that make problems when printing. The client open the printer dialog and it takes a long time (up to 1 minute) before it appears. Printing is slow, too. Meanwhile I see the following messages (repeating several times) in the client log: [2008/11/21 08:17:28, 1] lib/util_sock.c:open_socket_out(888) timeout connecting to 10.1.0.253:445

I'm still having that problem that my samba cannot backup more than 2 GB onto a Windows share (on a Win2K box) (see messages earlier in this forum - I have to backup a 66 GB file out of database). Setting loglevel of SAMBA to "2" I received the following (for the time running the backup up to the broken connection): ...... [2003/11/18 11:39:47, 3]

Printers and Faxes folder
We are in the process of uploading drivers to the samba server. Everything seems to be working but it is very slow. When you browse to the Printers and Faxes folder it takes a good 30 - 60 seconds to see the printers. I have also noticed that when you try to send a print job you seem to get the same delay. Below is what I am assuming to be a logged event related to this problem. File

I am able to join the domain but samba stops responding sporadically. Looking at the
