Login script doesn't run
Hi, The login script has worked for our win98 computers since the dawn of time (or there abouts). Then something happened or I did something and the login script doesn't run anymore. I can run it manually. This was version 2.2.3a. I started smbd with -d10 and didn't see any call for a script. Is the login script mentioned in a working system? In an effort to fix this, I deleted and

copy a large volume of data from PC to samba server
Hi there, Is there someone over there knows a method or script that can copy a large volume of data (in folders) from PCs to a samba server (suppose there is enough space there)? I know using smbclient or smbtar can backup data on PCs to samba server, but it is written in tar files.I wonder whether this method can handle a large folder, say, in 10GB size. Also, using smbclient with mget and

Login script doesn't run - Solved
I hate being stupid. Here is the answer: This won't work: [global] logon script = %U.bat # Win9x needs this This will work: [global] # Win9x needs this logon script = %U.bat The comment has to be on it's own line. Thanks to all for trying to help. Bob Crandell (bob@assuredcomp.com) wrote*: > >Hi, >The login script has worked for our win98 computers

Logon scripting for W95/98
All, As some of have no doubt found out, scripting is subtly different on 95/98 machines and NT machines. I have a logon script called by: logon script = xxxx\main.bat %G %U that works great for NT boxen. However it does absolutely nothing, no execution of main.bat at all for a W98 client. If I remove the parameters so it is: logon script = xxxx\main.bat it executes on the W98 box,

samba speeds: update
OK just out of curiosity I used the smbclient prog from FreeBSD to check upload and download speeds... downloading from win to unix gets ~3000k/sec and uploading from unix to win gets ~4000k/sec so the only problem is uploading from win to unix where it's like ~300-~400k/sec... It must be how xp sends its files not a prob with the server... does anyone know where this would be set and what it

Samba and Linux users
Hi, I have 2 clients that have expressed an interest in switching some users to Linux workstations as a test to see if they can avoid paying some of the Micro$oft tax. They will be sharing Word and Excel data. I'll be installing OpenOffice to begin with. Maybe they might be interested in Gnumeric later. My question is how to tell either Linux or Samba or both to allow any user to

Samba + Abacus Law anyone?
I'm attempting to install Abacus Law (v13) under Samba and Linux. Install completes, and I get as far as a single user successfully logged in, but the 2nd user is nothing but trouble. Samba logs show nothing unusual to my semi-trained eye, but locking code or timing is a likely suspect. Technical support is of no help as they haven't tested (and therefore don't support) the

Help again for Samba 3.0
Hello again, althogh some of you already tried to help me, I still have the same problem: I'd like to test the new Samba 3.0 as a PDC for two Windows 2000 clients. My OS is FreeBSD 4.5 Can anyone help me with that ? I always get the errors : 'no user session key' and 'remote procedure call failed'. As I found out the error messages (on the clients) both change regularly.

roaming profiles on win98
We have 20-30 computers here with win98 and a Linux/Samba Server. We have just implemented Samba PDC. The only problem I see is if we change passwords on a computer..that changes on that workstation and on Samba and Unix. Now, if the user goes to another computer they have their old password on the other computer and new one on Samba. So, would roaming profiles help me...what i want to do is

Samba + XP = no go
G'day. I'm having a great time trying to get a whole heap of XP workstations (from what I understand, they've been hotfixed+windows updated+whatever else a few days ago) to authenticate against Samba running on a FreeBSD 4.5-STABLE box. Basically, I add user accounts, machine accounts (with both "pw" and "smbpasswd"), then I can get the XP machines to successfully

VFS unavailable on FreeBSD 4.5-RELEASE
Despite the COMPLETE ABSENCE OF DOCUMENTATION* on the recycle bin vfs module, I'm still attempting to get it to work on FreeBSD 4.5. When I visit the examples/VFS directory, I cannot do a "make", despite libtool being installed. The error is: make: don't know how to make audit.so. Stop I have also discovered that even if I explicitly tell configure --with-vfs, vfs never gets

FreeBSD as NT
i've configured my FreeBSD 4.3 server to act as NT 4 on my local home network, however i've run into problems. I cannot pull a list of users from samba using the windows machines on the network (ie: user level access for shares), however i can log into the domain. i've read through my entire samba book (SAMS publishing) and searched through the samba site, but haven't found

Wierd error logging into Samba 2.2.5 from Winxp
Hello. I have a network with a server running Samba 2.2.5. I just recieved a laptop from Compaq with winxp on it. I already have a few winxp boxes on my network connecting to the Samba server just fine so I though setting up this laptop should be a breeze but after I change the required registry entries on this laptop (the "requires sign or seal registry entry to 0") It gives me the
