Fwd: samba pdc won't work with other samba file servers
Hello! i just took a closer look at log.smbd; it seems there is no problem with the file server passing on the authentication to the pdc, but the pdc logs say that the user's nt password or NTLM password doesn't match -- quite strange, considering i was able to log on and access a share on the pdc. Comments? ======================================================= Hello! A

samba as PDC with w2k clients
Hello! A good day to you all. i'm trying to set up samba(2.2.3a, right out of the rh7.3 cds) as a PDC. i've already read through the Samba-howto collection, and am confident that i've put in all the necessary samba options. /etc/samba/smb.conf: [global] netbios name = pdc1 workgroup = testing security = user domain logon = yes domain master = yes local master = yes domain admin

adding w2k computer accounts to samba 2.2.4 PDC
Hello! A good day to you all. i'm trying to get samba 2.2.4 to work with w2k pro boxes, and i noticed that only the root smb account can be used to add the machine to the domain(the machine account had been created in advance). When i tried to use an account that is not root, but part of the domain admin group, it returns various errors, like "unknown user name or bad

Slow Samba - Winbind - NT PDC - low bandwidth - Why slow lookups?
No comments on this one...? Did earlier versions of winbind go out to the PDC for information for each and every file that is listed in an explorer window? The is also a like delay in listing directory contents on the linux box (ie ls- al) ========================================== Hi all.. I apologies for the length. Run a very old Samba version (2.2.5 - Yes security problems) and winbind

Hi I'm sure this must have come up before - if so I apologise. I have googled, read HOWTOs FAQ and numerous personal accounts on how to configure samba as a PDC but to no avail - neither w2k nor XP will join the domain. NT4 Workstation and Win9x I have working fine - where have I gone wrong ? Linux SETUP: RedHat 7.3, samba-2.2.7-3.7.3 (upgraded from 2.2.3a) Win2k SETUP: Win 2000 Pro,

W2K PDC preconfigured security templates
Plan to use W2K PDC and a couple of Samba 2.2.8 file servers. Has anyone used the preconfigured templates that are shipped with W2K server(basicdc.inf, securedc.inf) on their PDC? Gotchas? Landmines? Necessary Modifications? Hudson __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Platinum - Watch CBS' NCAA March Madness, live on your desktop!

Problem with Samba PDC, W2k SP4 + rollup clients, user accounts
Hi! I've one big problem. In my work we have a mixed network: one Debian Sarge with samba 3.0.14 acting as PDC and some w2k sp4 and windows xp sp2 pro/home with all updates (including w2k sp4 update rollup) . Samba uses OpenLDAP as backend using smbldap-tools 0.9.1 to manage users and computers. This setup has worked perfectly since december (the LDAP is used by other services as Apache,

Possible PDC security hole re/machine accounts
Hey all! I was fiddling with some LDAP stuff for fun's sake, and I ran into this strange situation. The situation occurred with both my stock Samba and my modifications applied. I had a Win2000 Advanced Server machine already joined into the domain and working perfectly with PDC logons through the Samba server (v2.2.7, LDAP-SAM backend, OpenLDAP 2.0.25). While testing if the searches were

Samba 2.2.5-10, W2K PDC and Winbind - Authentication issues
I've gotten passed the problem I had with joining the domain. However, I am still having problems with the authentication of domain user accounts against the samba server. wbinfo -u shows my users from the domain correctly. wbinfo -g does the same for my domain groups. getent passwd shows the domain users as expected. wbinfo -t shows a good trust. wbinfo -a allows me to authenticate any

Possible PDC security hole r
Diego, When a NT-class or any Win9X based machine is not officially part of a domain, they can still utilize the domain resources as long as there is a user account that has permission to utilize the domain. When not part of the domain, the client machine will treat the domain as a workgroup and EVERY client request will go through the validation process. When connected to the

Win2k Server won't join domain
This isn't looking like a samba problem, but thought I'd ask just in case. I'm running samba 3.0.10 on Debian stable as a PDC. I have a Windows 2000 Server which was happily part of the domain until this morning. This morning users couldn't use an application whose database files are on the w2k machine, the symptoms looking like the users weren't authenticating to the

Windows2000 policies in a Samba PDC
I'm installing a Samba 3.0 PDC with LDAP backend in a classroom in a Spanish school. Client workstations are Windows2000 and, in the future, there will be Linux clients. I'm following the Samba Project Documentation book (also known as Samba Howto Collection). The document is wonderfull, but there is a part that I don't fully understand, maybe because, as you can read, I'm not a

PDC Newbie suggestion Request
For over a year now we have used SAMBA to give Win9x access to our RH Linux 7.x fileserver. Our office is small and we like to keep things simple so we went with plain authentication. If we login we can get on to the fileserver, access shares and our 'home' accounts that we created. If we type the wrong password we are no authenticated but we can still surf the web and browse the
