domain users in local groups with Winbind/Samba/Redhat
Hi,
I am running a Samba 2.2.7a on Redhat 7.3 in a NT domain. For authentication
I am using the domainusers. This is done by Winbind 2.2.7a which verifies the
existens of the users on the PDC. So I dont't have to create local users
(/etc/passwd) for users who want to connect to the shares in the smb.conf.
I authorise them by adding valid users = domain+domainuser to the smb.conf.
This works

net rpc vampire is sucking my brain!
Trying to migrate NT4 to samba 3.0.0 or 3.0.1pre3 with an ldap backend.
I add a backup server account to the domain and joined. Getting the SID
and the ldap init seem to work, and I start windbind. When I run net rpc
vampire all I get is a ton of "Could not create posix account info for "
errors. Then ofcourse pdbedit -L returns smbldap_search_suffix: Problem

Samba-3.0.0 packages for Mandrake 8.2-9.1
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

RPMs of samba3 for Mandrake were uploaded to the samba FTP mirrors on
Saturday. For those who have urpmi media setup for your favourite samba
mirror, all you need to do to get samba3 is (assuming you have setup the
Sambaldap source such as at http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/?minor=1):
# urpmi.update Sambaldap
# urpmi samba3-server

Annoying winbind problem solved
I have been on the web for hours reading email postings about WINDBIND.
Here is the scenario. Samba 2.27 on Redhat 8, installed via the redhat
RPMs. the first interesting note was that there is no samba-winbind rpm.
It is a part of the samba-common.rpm in redhat. I have been using Samba
as a file server for quite some time. And 100% of my issues with it stem
from permission problems. So I heard

samba 3 mandrake rpms...where is net tool?
I installed the RPMS from samba web site for Mandrake 9.1.
Configuration is weird as things are labeled smbd3 or winbind3...
Testparm runs against /etc/samba/smb.conf yet swat configures the
smb.conf in a different location...hmm....
But really my problem is joining the AD domain as a member server. I
can't locate the net tool.
How is this done?
How does testparm know to test against

Samba-2.2.5pre1 - all binaries require libldap with --with-ldapsam
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
While preparing packaging of te upcoming samba-2.2.5, we are looking at
having samba packages with and without ldap enabled, however, we would
like to try and minimize the duplication. But, it seems that most (all?)
binaries resulting from a --with-ldapsam build en up linking to libldap.
Are there really good reasons for nmblookup, smbcacls,

Samba 3.0.1 from samba.org shows "bgmilne" as username
When I attempted to "rpm -i samba3-3.0.0-1.1mdk.src.rpm" this morning on
my Mandrake 9.2 box, I got an unusual message that doesn't make sense.
It said, over and over (thirteen times total):
WARNING: user bgmilne does not exist - using root
When it went back to root prompt, I did an "updatedb", but nothing for
"samba-3" is found when I did the urpmi request.

XP Joining Samba Domain
I have successfully joined the XP machine to the domain. The strange part
is, that it only wanted to be joined if it connected to the PDC and not the
BDC.
The way it is set-up is that the XP machine and a BDC is in one branch and
the PDC is in another. Every time I would try to connect via the BDC, it
would return a value ACCESS DENIED
I stopped the smb service on the BDC, and got it to

Samba 3.0.0rc1 and 2 servers - PDC and homes
I have Samba 3.0.0rc1 installed on a linux server DC-01 and it's configured as
a PDC. The only share it has is netlogon. Users are stored in an LDAP passdb.
All our users' home directories are on a second linux server, FS-01. It's
been joined to the domain (command "sudo net join -U Administrator", which is
the name of the "root" account). And here's a

Problem with samba 2.2.4 and Mandrake 8.2
Hello all,
I updated my mandrake 8.2 samba from version 2.2.3a to 2.2.4, using mandrake cooker package, but after the update my
win98 clients can not logon on the server any more, the clients can't even find the pdc, because i get a big time from
the time that the user type his username and pass, and the logon error message. So is this a problem with mandrake's
package or the logon

XP and PDC patch alternative
Hey gang, I just joined the list but I've read back a few months and so far
noone has mentioned this so I thought I'd drop a line on it. I haven't
tried this yet, I have to get back to work to do so but. I think there is an
easier way to disable signorseal then to apply the path. Microsnot addresses
the issue in the following KB article.

swatlib?
Hi,
Anyone have by any chance created a swatlib? I'm curious about maybe
making a swatlib that can be used as the basis to make a php loadable
module to control Samba's config file....
Anyone?

PAM/winbindd/smb_pass/pam_smb_auth/smb_ntdom to authenticate SSH
Hello,
I'm currently running winbind (from Samba 2.2.3a) so that our
Windows users can ssh into our Linux box. I've set up Samba,
PAM and winbind, and it's working well. Users can see their
files, and they can log in using their windows usernames. No
problem.
When users access their Samba share, they don't need
to reauthenticate, because they've already done so with

Samba PDC + Winbind
Hello all.
First, a little background...
I recently downloaded samba-*-ldap-2.2.5-2mdk , installed on Mandrake
8.2 and got everything working fine.
I have LDAP installed for "single sign-on" support. I can use LDAP to
authenticate other Linux boxes, and have Samba as a PDC for some Win2000
boxes - all working fine. Linux users are the same as PDC users, except
for their passwords
