browsing multiple workgroups on multiple subnets
Is it possible to browse multiple workgroups on two or more subnets? I have set up samba on either end of a VPN and can browse successfully from either end, but only in the workgroup that samba is configured for. Can Samba be a member of more than one workgroup at the same time? Looking in browse.dat I can see all the machines in samba's workgroup and also the other workgroups, but not the

Ubuntu 64
Dear sig-R-Debian I'd like to second Christophe Bonenfan's plea for an up-to-date Ubuntu 64 (and maybe an up-to-date Debian 64) repository(ies). There seems to be no "easy" way, at least for Debian 64, to stay up-to-date on a 64 bits Debian-derived system, "easy" meaning being able to keep a consistent system up-to-date with no local package creation and no

smbmount and tar
Hi all, I've got a little problem: I have a NT share mounted on my linux box, with smbmount (samba 2.2.3a). When I try to create a tar archive with some files of that share, sometimes I got the following messages for some files: tar: <filename> file changed as we read it tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors Which can be the problem? gidNumber's and ldap backed samba PDC
In the planning process for migrating from NT4 PDC, and external ldap directory to samba 3.2.8 PDC. The external existing openldap directory is used currently to support the local uid mapping for the Linux logins and samba file servers that are members of the current NT4 PDC. While looking at the existing openldap UIDs and GIDs in use and what the samba PDC wants to use I see some uid/gid

Preloading WINS registrations
I have a couple of Samba boxes, one of which is dedicated to WINS. The other I dole out anti-virus stuff to 3,500 odd PCs from. This second one will disappear from the WINS server from time to time which is a bit of a pain. I use nmblookup -R -U <wins_ip> <2nd_box_ip> to test for it. All clients are configured as "P" nodes so WINS is a bit essential. To bring it back I

Order a vector and move to new vector
I currently have a data frame with a Fund ID and NAV value. Is it possible to order the data frame and move to separate columns in a new data frame or matrix in R without using a for loop? I suppose I'd like to use a built in function to make it faster because I will have around 60,000 entries to sort and my current program takes too long to do this. I know how to use order, but is there a

Problem Using the %in% command
Hello all! I have the following problem with the %in% command: 1) I have a data frame that consists of functions (rows) and genes (columns). The whole has been loaded with the "read.delim" command because of gene-duplications between the different rows. 2) Now, there is another data frame that contains all the genes (only the genes and without duplicates) from all the functions of

Samba-3 Ldap Adding Administrator Account
How do you add an "Administrator" account to ldap. I want to leave root in /etc/passwd but have "Administrator" in ldap I have checked Howto Collection and the Samba-Ldap-3 but they contain no information. The Ldap-Howto has a suggestion but then says not to use. Godfrey

samba 3.0 - ldap - pdc
hi all, i am actually trying to get samba 3.01 (on SLES 8.0) working as PDC with the ldap backend. I have already configured nsswitch to also use ldap for groups and passwords (the root user is still in the /etc/passwd file - i can't imagine that putting the root user into openldap is a really good idea). There is one sentence in the howto

Flag to turn off host-key check
Let me start by saying that I think OpenSSH is a great tool and thanks to everyone contributing to it's existence. However, I have a request: I'd like to have a flag that ignores the check of the host key. I'm fully aware of that this opens up for man-in-the-middle attacks and that there is a risk of lazy users mis-using this feature, but it would be very useful for us using SSH in a

Can't use Encrypted Passwords with ldapsam backend
Hello samba mailing list, I'm using samba 3.0.24 on a home server running Debian etch. The server handles authentication and provides samba file shares for a small home network of Linux machines. I recently changed basic login authentication from NIS to kerberos/ldap for the clients. I then decided to switch samba over on the server to use the new ldap authentication backend. The [global]

Searching for Doku Samba with LDAP
Hy * I'm searching for Doku acting as an PDC in an Windows environment. I was able to set up the Ldap-Directory itself, storing the Users in the Directory, this all is working. But was not able to let the Workstations join the Domain. Here i don't find Dokumentation about it. Can anyone send me links about Dokumentation about LDAP and Samba, acting as an PDC. Thank you very much

Samba 3 + LDAP as PDC - which tutorial / HOWTO to use?
Hello, I'm struggling with setting Samba 3 + OpenLDAP as a PDC. I had no problems with setting Samba 3 as a PDC (I could join domain, users could log in, machines were added automatically, roaming profiles worked etc.). But when it comes to setting Samba 3 + OpenLDAP as a PDC, I'm stuck - I can join a domain, but can't log in as a user; Samba logs say user auth was successful,

Citrix, Samba PDC experiences.
Hi all, I've dug through the lists and google, but haven't found very much info on using Citrix with a samba PDC. The small number of messages and information I've found, lead me to believe it will work. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge they'd be willing to share? I'm currently involved in rolling out Citrix for proprietary windows apps for remote offices.

UK -999 dialing issue
Hi Amit OK, the majority of our calls go out via zaptel fxo and pstn lines. When these are all busy, calls are routed via a VOIP provider here in the UK. All activity is recorded in our logs, and I can find no trace of either 999 or 112 (if since been reminded that in the UK, you can now also use 112 which is consistent with continental Europe). I can't find a call placed at the relevant

smbldap-tools badly messed up
These scripts should function much the same as the binarys shouldn't they? 1. If you add a user, the users group must pre-exist. No adding users and groups simultaneously. 2. If you do add a user the gidNumber is set to the default specified in /etc/samba/smbldap_conf.pm NOT the users group as specified on the command line with "-g". This HAS to be a bug. 3. The option to leave

password capture / synchronisation
On the Windows PDC I can use a filter DLL to capture password and sync them to the LDAP server. I want to replace my current Windows NT4 domain controller with a samba based PDC utilizing LDAP. How can I capture samba password changes so that I can update the LDAP passwords. And similarly, how can I capture LDAP password changes to update samba passwords? Thanks -- Simon Oliver
