Incredibly slow Roaming Profiles
We've just set up an internal domain, and had a single XP Pro machine join
without any difficulties. But we need this machine (and the other handful
with it) to use Roaming Profiles, which is posing something of a speed
issue.
I have logged on, killed the 'You do not own the profile' tidbit, fixed up
permissions, and finally gotten XP to read the profile from the SAMBA server

Problems with force (user|group) and XP Professional?
Hi all,
In continuing of previous problems, I've noticed some potential problems
with force user / force group and Windows XP Professional.
I'm not exactly sure why or how, but it appears that XP picks up the fact
that it's being connected as the forced user (smbguest), and continues
trying to authenticate to other services/shares as that user (smbugest).
I'm not sure if this

Logging in taking too long with roaming profile
Hello,
I am trying to setup a network of 5 XP computers with roaming profiles.
I've got a profile set up on the server and I can log on. The problem
is that the log in time takes about 10 mins and the log out takes just
as long. Here is a link to the log file from the samba server. I
have made comments on it to show what is happening on the terminal.

Samba 3.0 PDC+LDAP
I've just moved our current Samba installation to LDAP (to try to combat
some other issues), and I've run into a large number of problems. One of
them is that I'm quite new to LDAP.
I've made our entries to be:
organizationalPerson
inetOrgPerson
posixAccount
sambaSamAccount
I know that the 'Samba (v3) PDC LDAP howto' is out of date, and the Samba

Tyan K8WE BIOS v1.03 and -STABLE
I tried updating the BIOS on my K8WE (S2895) yesterday to 1.03, but after
the update, FreeBSD (RELENG_6 dated March 26) would randomly freeze after
booting.
As I was updating from v1.01, I suspect it may be the updates to the nVidia
SATA firmware that caused the issue, as things generally froze shortly after
the background fsck processed kicked in (with, obviously, the exception of

hfc-pci/zaphfc: Asterisk hangs with signalling bri_net_ptmp but not with bri_net
Please forgive me, if I misunderstand the problem completely.
Following instructions in several german blogs, I want to configure
Asterisk with a hfc-pci card, an old NTBA and an ISDN phone
as a SIP device.
It seems that I have to set signalling in zapata.conf to bri_net_ptmp.
When I do this, Asterisk will hang if started with -vvvvc, the last
lines of output being:

ath(4) and 802.11g speed
So, with the updated HAL, I'm now able to negotiate an IP address via DHCP
over the WLAN. Huzzah!
But I've got two questions (now that I can use the card):
ath(4) doesn't contain a list of media nor mediaopt settings that can be
used. Some are detailed down in EXAMPLES, but there's no comprehensive
list. (As well, and this is minor, the speeds are explicitly listed for

Samba and XP - potential newbie questions
We run Samba on our internal LAN (about 20 workstations, mostly XP), and
until last night, we were using 2.2.6. I've since updated to 3.0b1, hoping
to fix some *very* strange XP weirdness we're seeing.
The one XP Home client works just fine. But of the rest (all XP Pro), we
get some erratic behaviour -- some people can't print, some people take ages
to mount drives, and some people

Unable to start Asterisk 1.4 on CentOS 4.4 (installed from ATrpms)
Hi Everyone,
I am still unable to start Asterisk 1.4 that I installed using ATrpms.
I was initially suspecting some permissions issues but it seems to me
that its more to do with a speex codec not loading properly.
Here is the message I get if I run asterisk -cvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
app_userevent.so => (Custom User Event Application)

I'm trying to call from XLite phone to PSTN
(I've tried this from internet and from local network the same)
The Xlite doesn't write that it is connected but receives excelent audio.
At the other end comes only noise. Some times only for a second you can
here the
caller voice , but this was only one time :)
I saw with ethereal that UDP packets are coming and going to the
asterisk

Changing temp Dir: /var/tmp
Hi,
LLVM will look for the following environment variables to be set, and if
not it will use /var/tmp:
TMPDIR, TMP, TEMP, TEMPDIR
You should be able to override its behaviour by setting one of those.
Cheers,
James

C:\users\[me]\Temp\file.tmp cannot be opened
I have been trying to install Nobeltec4, an oldish windows chart navigation system, and the installer keeps stopping with the message, "the file C:\users\bill\Temp\GLF8e4.tmp could not be opened..." and suggests I check for permissions and space, etc. I have seen the documentation on that and I really do have permissions and plenty of space.
I go and browse the C drive under wine (v

chroot: Error: Temp file creation to /tmp
Hello,
We are using dovecot (2.2.10) and it's working great! When I enable
chrooting by appending /./ to the homedirs I'm getting errors like this:
mail1 dovecot[47074]: imap(user): Error: Temp file creation to
/tmp/dovecot.imap.mail1.70079. failed: No such file or directory
On the surface everything seems to be working fine and I have not been
able to produce the error myself.

dovecot log shows: service=imap ... Error: Temp file creation to /tmp/dovecot.imap. failed: No such directory
I am using dovecot 2.2 with plesk 12 and I have made no modifications to the dovecot config.
Logwatch reports the messages below.
The errors don't seem to appear for every imap connect as can be seen from the number of deliveries and successful logins.
So what makes dovecot fail sometimes to create the /tmp/dovecot.imap?
Dovecot Deliveries: 19
Dovecot IMAP and POP3 Successful Logins: 106
