FW: Windows 2000 and Samba
No one had any other offerings here? I can't find anything that clears this up. And this machine can get to a Linux based Samba server just fine. Windows 2000 and Samba
I have a Samba server running on an AIX 4.4.3 RS6000 that has been serving up files without problem. Recently, a pair of machines, both Windows 2000 Pro, haven't been able to gain access to any of the Samba resources on the AIX server though they were both able to previously. Other WinNT and Win2k machines can get to these shared resources fine, just not these two. I haven't found anything

Strange server string behavior
I am in the process of building a server to replace a very old one and have copied the smb.conf file over the the new machine. It's a relatively small config with all the stuff removed that we don't need. It's also the only file that I've copied from the old machine. Before the SMB service was ever started I copied the contents of the file, changed the server string from

IP Binding
Hi all, New to Samba here so please bear with dumb questions. I have a server that's currently running SMB shares off of device 10.0.0.1 on a private network. It has a second device, 10.0.0.2 that I would like to add to the device bindings for Samba. I've tried this in the smb.conf file but it doesn't seem to work. Here's what I tried: workgroup = SOMECOMPANY netbios

win2k client slow with samba 2.2.3.a - maybe a bug?
This sure looks like a bug but maybe a configuration error on my part. I am trying to migrate out current OS/2 Warp 4 based file server to Samba. We have OS/2, Win98, WinNT4, and Win2k clients. I set Samba 2.2.3a up to use security = SHARE as this appears to be the closest to what the OS/2 Warp4 based system supports. All clients are able to access the files on the Samba service but loading

Does smbtar have a size limit ?
Hello. I'm trying to use smbtar/smbclient (2.0.3) to copy an NTFS share on an NT Server, onto a Solaris 2.5 system. The NTFS partition is 10Gb. At the 2Gb mark, the tar stops. No errors, the file just stops. The process (smbtar) returns. Is this a problem with Solaris 2.5 ? I believe it is, and if I upgrade to 2.6, I can create larger tar files. However, does anyone know if

Quotas and Netatalk Support ?
I've just noticed that --with-netatalk and --with-quotas are options to configure for samba. Is anyone using these options on Solaris 7, and what do they do and how well ? I'd really like to display a users quota as "disk size" and their remaining space as "disk free". Is --with-quotas the right way to go about this ? I also run netatalk. Do I need to use

desktop lockdown on win2k / xp
Hi guys, I'm just about to shoot on my foot so I wanted to check if there is something else to blow my full leg actually ;-)) I have setup a working Samba 3 PDC controller with user authentication and roaming profiles. I want to lock down [*] the desktop on client machines (win xp) as I did with poledit (NTConfig.POL) on Win9x/WinNT4 machines. [*] Lock downs suck as : disabling msn

question re: NETBIOS name resolution
Hello All, I am having trouble with the WinNT name resolution of a Linux box running Samba. It appears that NETBIOS is resolving the name itself but doensn't know how to get to the resource. If I cahnge the NETBIOS name of the Samba server to something with more than 8 characters everything works fine. This work around seems like a bad idea since the SMB NETBIOS name is different than the

H323 Disconnects after 15+ minutes
I have posted my problem on the link below, but didn't get any answer. I am hoping someone here can help me with this issue. Here's my problem: I am using H323 to talk between Asterisk and Avaya IP Office 500. For some strange reason, when we are talking on a VoIP call, we get disconnected after 10+ minutes. We have two other Elastix box, but none of them are getting disconnected. From

winbind running in PDC Samba server
Hello, HOWTO chapter 21 describes the use of winbind daemon in a Samba domain member Server, but it's possible (and desirable) to run winbind in a PDC Samba server? The question is due to it that in that case it seems it is not necessary winbind for authenticate/mapping users against a external WinNT4 PDC, the Samba PDC perform authentication itself (and the mapping its not necessary, because

max filename length
I'm having some weird problems with filename lengths. Here are the symptoms: - I can not rename a file from explorer to have more than 127 characters. After typing in a filename, it prompts me with the "are you sure you want to change the extension" dialog. It gets truncated to 127 characters, and doesn't have an extension. The filename shows up from a UNIX shell having only

Android App?
One of the things that annoys me about my current mobile phone is that I cannot use it to play music (naturally all encoded as Ogg Vorbis) as the phone only supports proprietary formats. I wonder if things will be any better with phones using the Android platform - whether anyone has plans to make an open format based player for it and whether there will be any restrictions uploading such an app

advapi32.dll
Hello, Have solved all my problems with WINE, but one, which seems harder ;-) I have to run a little proggie "filesign.exe", and the lil bastartd relies heavily on advapi32.dll crypto stuff, (CryptAcquireContextA(), for example). From what I read on the code (dlls/advapi32/crypt.c), most of this functions are stubs, so no luck (it crashes all over with the return FALSEs) So, I tried

userPassword in a LDAP database of a Samba3 domain
Hi folks, I have been able to migrate a WinNT4 domain to a Samba3 PDC domain using openldap as a backend and smbldap-tools to vampire the WinNT4 domain (pretty much following Samba3 by Example and documentation in smbldap project by IDEALX). Nevertheless, all 600 users migraged from the WinNT4 domain have attributes like these on the ldap database: userPassword: {crypt}x

crash using bmp() on windows with Rdll2010 (PR#756)
A few weeks ago I have updated R-1.1.1 for Windows with the fixed R.dll (Rdll2010.zip) for Win2k from CRAN. (I have used the same version of R from WinNT4 *and* Win2k for some time.) Now I tried to produce a bitmap, but R crashes (WinNT4): bmp("bitmap.bmp") plot(1:10) dev.off() ## crash! That does not happen with the original R.dll from R-1.1.1 (15 Aug 2000). I cannot test on
