SCO OpenServer 5.0.6a and missing libncurses.so.4
I've downloaded Samba 2.2.6 (binaries) from SCOs Skunkware site, but
when I try and run smbclient I get a message :
dynamic linker : smbclient : error opening /usr/local/lib/libncurses.so.4
Killed
I've checked and there is no libncurses.so.4 (or
libncurses.<anything> for that matter) on the system. I've also
failed to find anything relevant in either the list archive or SCOs

Cups, samba and temporary print files
This is probably more of a Cups issue, however, I have a question about the
spool files from sharing Cups printers in Samba.
The spool directory on my Samba server seems to be holding print job files
from past print jobs. I'm wondering what is the proper way to eliminate
these files?
Any help is appreciated.

Samba, Mac and IBM Midrange
We are currently trying to access an IBM AS/400 (iSeries) system with a Mac
system running OS X. We have setup a share drive thru the AS/400's NetServer.
We have successfully connected to the shared drive but all characters in are
not legible.
Looks like the code page is not set correctly, also when we click on an object
it disappears from the screen. Is there additional configurations steps

force duplex mode for Apple LW8500 printer
Hello. We have an Apple LaserWriter8500 printer that has a duplex
printing unit. The printer is configured to print on both sides of a
sheet by default (e.g. if I print a document with unix lpr command,
they print on both sides). However, I couldn't manage to make my Win2k
desktop to print dual-sided output on that printer although I am
sending the jobs to the same LPRng queue (routed through

Samba 2.2.5 with Filemaker Pro 5.5 Databases
Hi,
I am new to this list but I have tried to search for answers to this one.
Ever since we moved the *.fp5 files off a windows 2000 server and onto samba
filemaker is now 20% the speed it was before.
It was happening with samba 2.2.3a and I have just recently upgraded to
2.2.5 and it didn't fix the problem.
I suspect it's a locking issue and the speed of getting locks on the files.

.eml files rejected by samba
Hi List.
I have some weirdness here which I have no idea how to resolve. I have
been runing samba for the las two years on a suse 8.2 box with no
problem at all. Last week I had a file system failure and was forced to
rebuild. Rebuilt using SuSE 9.1 and SAMBA 2.28
When I started restoring data, I noticed that all files with .eml
extensions could not be written to disk.!?!? As an experriment, i

Mac OS X winbind on Samba domain
Hi All,
Has anyone managed to get a Mac (OS X I'm using) to authenticate to
a Samba/NT domain? I've been playing with this all day, and am not
getting very far - smbd, nmbd and winbind (3.0.2) all run fine, I can
see the domain, can connect individually to windows shares, wbinfo shows
users (and groups, I assume), but there's no hints as far as what the

Login scripts based on group
I have users that belong to several groups. I want a logon script to be
run for each of the groups to which a user belongs. For example, when I
logon, I want admin.bat, users.bat, and someothergroup.bat to run. On
Novell I used to use 'if Member of groupName...', but I don't know how
to do this in Samba..
Thanks,

samba-2.2.8a-220 and OSX
Hi to all.
We have a samba-2.2.8a-220 Server. The server works still fine
with several clients (W9x, W2k, WXP and smbmounts via Linux).
But now I have to connect an Apple OSX and now I have one
problem. From OSX I can connect to the shares, browse the file
listing. But when a file is copied into a share, the file is on
the destination with 0 (zero) Bytes filesize. The linux uid and
gid are

Newbie question, Making samba use the /etc/passwd file instead of smbpasswd
Hi,
I'm very new to *nix and really just playing with it to teach myself some
stuff... Anway I don't beleive my problem is a hard one, yet I can't seem to
find a answer online :(
Basically I've just installed FreeBSD 4.5 and Samba 2.2.2_3 (most likly not
the lastest but came with my distro)... I noticed that samba seems to use a
different set of users and passwords to the normal

DNS->Wins proxy?
Hi.
Some of my friends like to drag their computers to my place for LAN parties
sometimes and I've set up a DHCP server on my Linux gateway for easy
configuration. When someone sets up a game server on their computer, we still
have to resort to broadcasting via the voice-over-air protocol to get the IP
to everyone. Today I set up a WINS server with Samba on my Linux gateway and

CUPS Printing to PostScript Printer
I'm having trouble printing to a HP LaserJet 6MP
Postscript printer. I'm using CUPS and normal
UNIX printing works fine.
I've tried to configure SAMBA for point and click
printing. That all seemed to go okay except that
what is printed is:

Netlogon scripts
Hi List,
maybe i missed a hint on google, but i didn?t find
a answer to following question:
is it possible to cascade the logon scripts...?
for example:
there is a standard script for all client-pc?s called: netlogon.bat
and in addition there is for some client-pc?s a
additional script called by the %m switch in smb.conf
kind regards

printer services
Hi:
I have a question regarding printer support/services. Does Samba
support shared printers directly attached to a Windoz or Linux machine?
(i.e. attached via a parallel port or USB port to either the Samba
machine or one of the Linux or Windoz boxes).
If so, how does one configure Samba and/or the other network machines to
configure the printers to make them reachable to the rest of the

Samba using Virtual Servers (load balancing)
Hello fellow samba users,
Our company uses samba for all fileshares/printing/PDC on
two SUN E3500's. We like to replace these with about 10
Linux 19" XEON (pizza)boxes. The question: Are there
any implementation out there using a loadbalancing cluster
doing samba?
A simple diagram of the setup I have in mind:

Samba3-LDAP PDC and SUSE OpenExchange
Hi all,
I have setup a Samba3 PDC and BDC with an LDAP backend to replace my current
NT 4.0 infrastructure. This configuration is working fine. I also am testing
integration of SuSE OpenExchange and would like to have it authenticate
logons via the domain LDAP database.

Problems of groups accessing shared directory
Hello,
I have problems with people having different groups who access a shared
directory via samba.
The requirements are:
1. There are people with group "group1" and group "group2" in /etc/passwd
2. 3 people from group "group1" and 2 people from group "group2" are allowed
to access a shared directory and have read/write access to that directory.
