Windows 2000 and Samba
I have a Samba server running on an AIX 4.4.3 RS6000 that has been serving up files without problem. Recently, a pair of machines, both Windows 2000 Pro, haven't been able to gain access to any of the Samba resources on the AIX server though they were both able to previously. Other WinNT and Win2k machines can get to these shared resources fine, just not these two. I haven't found anything

Samba and Win2K failures
Hi all, I posted here about this last week and still haven't found a solution to this. I have an AIX 4.4.3 system running Samba (not sure what version) in a WinNT4/Win2k environment. Some of the Win2k machines have mysteriously lost their ability to communicate with the Samba server on the AIX box but can still connect to the Linux Samba servers. I've installed Service Pack 2 onto the

IP Binding
Hi all, New to Samba here so please bear with dumb questions. I have a server that's currently running SMB shares off of device 10.0.0.1 on a private network. It has a second device, 10.0.0.2 that I would like to add to the device bindings for Samba. I've tried this in the smb.conf file but it doesn't seem to work. Here's what I tried: workgroup = SOMECOMPANY netbios

Strange server string behavior
I am in the process of building a server to replace a very old one and have copied the smb.conf file over the the new machine. It's a relatively small config with all the stuff removed that we don't need. It's also the only file that I've copied from the old machine. Before the SMB service was ever started I copied the contents of the file, changed the server string from

WinXP reghack wont stick after reboot
I have a handful of machines with all of the latest windows updates, and the WinXP reghack wont stay. If I enter the EnablePlainTextPassword reghack, and reboot, all is fine, until the machine is logged off or rebooted, then it reverts back to EnablePlainTextPassword=no Seems to be only affected on machines using Novell 4.83.6 SP1 client... although something else could be the cause. libsmbclient question
Hi Jeremy, It's now clear. We'll do a short term workaround somehow. I created the bug. https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11295 Thanks for the useful reply. Does smbtar have a size limit ?
Hello. I'm trying to use smbtar/smbclient (2.0.3) to copy an NTFS share on an NT Server, onto a Solaris 2.5 system. The NTFS partition is 10Gb. At the 2Gb mark, the tar stops. No errors, the file just stops. The process (smbtar) returns. Is this a problem with Solaris 2.5 ? I believe it is, and if I upgrade to 2.6, I can create larger tar files. However, does anyone know if

Quotas and Netatalk Support ?
I've just noticed that --with-netatalk and --with-quotas are options to configure for samba. Is anyone using these options on Solaris 7, and what do they do and how well ? I'd really like to display a users quota as "disk size" and their remaining space as "disk free". Is --with-quotas the right way to go about this ? I also run netatalk. Do I need to use

new user cannot logon to one computer in the domain
I run a NT-Domain with samba 3.0.28a and WinXP-Clients (SP3) Everything is fine. But now I created a new user and this new user can logon to all machines in the Domain but one. On this machine the user gets the message "user cannot login. check username/password/domain and be aware that username/password are casesensitive" (I translated this from german) Other users can login fine. NA when indexing vectors
Hello: Is there a more natural way to get all elements that satisfy a condition when there are NAs in the sample? > x=c(1,2,NA) > x>=2 [1] FALSE TRUE NA > x[x>=2] [1] 2 NA ## I would expect here to get just "2" > x[!is.na(x) & x>=2] ## seems a bit cumbersome [1] 2 Thanks, Szilard

oplocks and samba 2.2.7
About two months ago our sysadmin upgraded to samba 2.2.7 and we have not had any oplock problems since. A heartfelt thanks from the University of Wisconsin in Madison to the Samba team for all their hard work. If our hundreds of users understood what was going on behind the scenes, they'd be thanking you too. --- Sam Barasch Computer Systems Support Department of Biostatistics

libsmbclient question
Dear Gents, We are using libsmbclient smbc_getFunctionRead to read from a Microsoft DFS share. Before each 64k read there are a QUERY_PATH_INFO and a GET_DFS_REFERRAL which slow down the transmission. Is there a way to query these only once at the beginning of the transmission and cache it? system: 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt9-3~deb8u1 (2015-04-24) x86_64 GNU/Linux lib:

angry red X's & disconnected drives
Esteemed Ladies and Gentlemen of the Samba list, I have a curious problem on one of my windows 2000 machines. As soon as the user connects to a samba share, they are disconnected and the drive appears marked with a red X The samba logs indicate that 10-20 seconds after any user of this machine connects to a network drive, they are disconnected. Oddly enough, you can browse the contents of

Android App?
One of the things that annoys me about my current mobile phone is that I cannot use it to play music (naturally all encoded as Ogg Vorbis) as the phone only supports proprietary formats. I wonder if things will be any better with phones using the Android platform - whether anyone has plans to make an open format based player for it and whether there will be any restrictions uploading such an app
