HP Jetdirect, Intel Netport, Samba, And Windows XP
Hello,
I have a bunch of Windows XP Pro machines, Samba 2.2.4, and several plotters on Jetdirect cards, and several printers on Netport 10/100 Muli-port network print servers.
I have successfully configured Samba 2.2.4 to allow Windows XP to join the domain controlled by Samba and automaticaly create its own computer account on Samba.
I would now like to setup Samba to share all the printers

WinY2k Access Denied on Printing
I have a Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf) Samba 2.2.4 PDC and fileserver
built with --with-ldapsam. The clients are either win9x or WinY2k.
Authenitcation, etc... all works great.
But print sharing is a real pain. Under 2.2.1a printing worked great, but our
VOIP phone system wouldn't joint the domain until we upgraded to 2.2.4. Initial
testing of 2.2.4 made it seem like everything

Print Server
Ok, here's my setup: I've had a samba file server going for about a year
now. It's Samba v2.05a on a RH6.0 sys. Currently we have a printer
server running on a Winblows NT box. This NT box has the following
printers: HP5si, (4) HP4000, and a few HP4s. All of those printers have
Jet Direct ports on them. What I want to do is, move all the printers
over to the Samba box and KILL the NT

Problems with SPOOLSS WinNT driver uploads
I've been experiencing a problem with the automatic printer driver
download function described in printer_driver2.html under Samba 2.2.5 on
Red Hat 7.2. I believe that I have followed the doc correctly and in fact
the driver uploads/downloads seem to work if I use a small driver set (like
the Apple Laserwriter v23.0) that comes with Windows NT 4.0.
The problem is that I cannot seem to

Problems when using cupsaddsmb
Hi!
First of all, I have to admit that it is my first post on this list, so
please be lenied toward me, if I don't obey some of the rules ;-) I'll
try my best :-)
I am just trying to get my samba-server work as a print server by using
CUPS. The OS of the server is Gentoo Linux and I'm using samba-3.0.9-r1.
The clients are win 2k/xp home. I can already see my shares (files and

Upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.0 fails
Hi,
I tried to upgrade samba on a Linux from 2.2.8a to 3.0.0, and after the
upgrade the printer sharing fails. I would like to participate in the
search for the bug (if it is a bug), but I don't know how to start.
If this is not a bug I would like to know why not, and how to work
around, that the printer does not work with the attached smb.conf, while
it works with samba version 2.2.8a

Samba Slow, and I have high Quality NICS
I have SLOW file transfers across samba to my Windows Server 2000 domain.
I am using a built in 100bT Intel Pro NIC, I have tried the built in gigabit
NIC and a PCI 3com, all with the same results.
Using iperf, I get about 45-90Mb of bandwidth from my PC's to my samba
server.
I can pull it up by \\servername <file:///\\servername> or \\ipaddress
<file:///\\ipaddress> with out

Setting printer properties with prnadmin.dll (W2k Resource Kit)
Hi,
we are trying to set printer properties with the prnadmin.dll from the
windows 2000 resource kit.
The printers are shared by a samba 2.2.8a, spoolingsystem is Cups. We are
using the windows drivers to process the job, the queues are set as
raw-queues on cups.
For some models[1] setting the properties via a dumped file works without

Printer banner always 'nobody'
I've had this problem as long as I've been using samba: every time
anyone prints from a PC they get a banner page labeling them 'nobody.'
Now, I realize this has to do with the guest account being 'nobody,' and
the server is passing that name to the printer. It can get very
frustrating, though, when lots of folks use the same printer and all of
the jobs have the same name

Bug#270019: serial/lp rules for logcheck
At the moment I've no host with which to test ppp/lp things on. If you (or
anyone) could provide complete regexes, (each beginning with ^ and ending with
$) I will patch the rules accordingly.
If not, sending the full log lines is a good start.
Thanks!

Problems printing to Samba printer from W2K (Very Slow)
I am having problems printing to a Samba printer from
my Windows 2000 machines. While eventually it does
print, it takes an extremely long time. The test page
takes over 5 minutes to print. I have tracked it to
the Samba spooling process. The delay is in Windows
sending the information to the Samba spool. If I look
in the Samba spool directory during the print process,
the file size increases very

problem connecting to Samba server from windows XP
I run Samba 2.2.8 on my Red Hat 9.
Both smbd and nmbd are running OK. ps -aux | grep mbd
shows the 2 processes, plus, smbclient works fine,
thanks to Christopher.
The Samba server resides on a host with IP 10.10.6.31.
I got this from the smbclient run below:
[root@RedHat samba]# smbclient //REDHAT/test -U jack
added interface ip=10.10.6.31 bcast=10.10.255.255
nmask=255.255.0.0

How do I stop the guest account printing?
Hi there.
I've had Samba running fo a while now on a machine that we use as a shared
file store. Not everyone who uses it has an account on the linux machine,
so it's setup with "security = share" to allow guest access to some of the
shares. But I've now attached a printer that I dont want guest access to.
This might be something really simple that I'm missing, but I

Printing problems Win2K SP4 on 3.0.x and 2.x
I'm afraid I am stumped, and need some help or pointers.
Ever since I've "upgraded" my Win2k boxes to SP4, I've been unable to print
to Samba-shared printers (on Solaris and Freebsd). Originally I was
running
the current 2.2.x, and figured trying to diagnose the problem would provide
an impetus for trying 3.0, which I have from beta3 through RC1. That bit

Printing issue
I'm trying to setup a print server for Samba clients to use. I have a HP
LaserJet 4 connected to /dev/lp0 and I'm using the LPRng spooling package.
Documents printed from Windows clients make it to the printer. However the
printed documents, mostly Excel/Word documents, have various abberations on
them. Graphical flaws, the text seems fine. In addition I seem to get 2

Is there a way foe me to get the print job name to be something other than
"remote downlevel job"? All my jobs are now printing flawless except for
this. I would like to be able to get a file name or program at least.
Thanks
