pre-/postexec in printers-section
Hi,
after updating our printserver from Samba V2.0.6 to V2.2.7 I encountered the
following problem.
Samba does not execute the (root) pre- and postexec within the printers
section.
If you are using these command in another section everything works fine.
Does anybody know if these command are not supported in the printers section
anymore?
smb.conf:
[global]

load printers = yes

WinY2k Access Denied on Printing
I have a Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf) Samba 2.2.4 PDC and fileserver
built with --with-ldapsam. The clients are either win9x or WinY2k.
Authenitcation, etc... all works great.
But print sharing is a real pain. Under 2.2.1a printing worked great, but our
VOIP phone system wouldn't joint the domain until we upgraded to 2.2.4. Initial
testing of 2.2.4 made it seem like everything

printer permissions
A stupid question. With new printing system (spoolss) how people
restrict access to the printers ? It was clear with the old system when
each printer was in a separate share. I could assign a list of valid
users for each printer share.
TIA.

Win2k Printer Woes Continue
I installed the printer patch on 2.2.4 on my Linux 7.3 box, reconfigured
it (I think I did things in the correct order:configure, make
realclean,run patch,configure,make,sh.makerpms.sh), created a new rpm,
uninstalled the old samba, reinstalled the new rpm, fixed the conf
files, reloaded samba and now my printers appear as "HPLASERJET on
_smbserver". HPLASERJET is queue name which is

Uploading Printer Drivers with XP
I have a hopefully simple question (although my previous questions I
thought were simple received no responses.lol).
I am trying to get the automatic printer driver downloading working. I
followed all the instructions, but I'm still having some problems.
When I get to adding the printer driver by navigating to the printer
share (print$) and selecting properties on the printer, then doing the

Samba 2.2.5: denying access to printer...
Hy there,
I have a problem with Samba 2.2.5 (on AIX 4.3) concerning a printer
share.
I set up a few printer share which work well. Now I want to restrict
the access to one of them. In order to achieve this I put in a

[Fwd: samba client problems???]
Hello,
I have scoured the samba archives, and have found a few suggestions to this
problem, like setting registry setting on the Windows machine to allow clear
text passwords, and making sure permissions are setup correctly in the
smb.conf
and with the directory to share... but to no avail...
Can someone shed some further light on this topic. None of the prior

Printing problems from W2k/NT4
Hello,
I recently upgraded our file server from RedHat6.2 to RedHat7.2.
This upgraded our (working) Samba 2.0.x to 2.2.1a-4. Now, the windows98
machines on the network can print without problems. The 2K/NT4 machines
cannot print, but they experience no problems with file sharing operations
(writeable /home/$USER).
The 2K/NT4 machines had been printing fine prior to the upgrade. I won't

I am running Samba 2.2.8 on FreeBSD4.8, and all is working well, except:
I have set up a virtual printer using Samba to take a print job, turn it
into a pdf and then email it back to an address, using a perl script and the
Samba print command. I have tested the script logging in as the Samba guest
user and it works fine, but when i try to print to the printer it never

Documentation / boolean fix for oplocks = command
In the documentation the "oplocks = yes" option is give in an example, as
the default for this parameter. However, I needed to turn oplocks off, and
so assumed that the command "oplocks = no" would work. It doesn't, instead I
found that "oplocks = false" does. There needs to be some boolean fixing
done, or at least documentation should reflect this strangeness.
