request: HOWTO for Samba4.latest AD PDC
I'm looking for an up-to-date howto on using Samba as an AD PDC. I've been using Samba since the days of yore, but have recently acquired the resources to take another stab at implementing an AD system using Samba. Perhaps it has escaped notice that the page with the link text "Official HOWTO" on samba.org points to https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/

OT: Gigabit Rated Eth Cables - Cat 6 v. Gigatrue
Hi, In populating our racks with several gigbit switches over the next few days, i'm wondering this: Is it over-engineering to seek out 550mhz rated cables over the typical Cat 6 250mhz rated cables? I've been advised (if you can a salesperson's words advice, heh.) that 250mhz is enough to handle traffic up to 10GB's. Should I just be happy with Cat6 for my GB switches or is

R, S, S-Plus, whence comes thy name?
I appeal to those entrusted with the keeping of the R flame, the S flame, and the S-Plus flame to relate a bit of history. How did S, S-Plus, and R get their names? Going from S to S-Plus appears clear, a commercial company purchased rights to S, developed a product that they wanted to indicate was related to S, but was more fully developed. This leaves me with only a rumor how S got its original

Winamp plugin installation
Okay, this is a nitpick but I gotta do it. First the background: I'm trying to convince a diehard mp3 coworker of mine to use ogg for his personal project along side of mp3 and having a tough time. His gripe is that the default players all support mp3 (Winamp and wma) but not ogg and that his listeners won't want to go out and install it. We have now set up a huge shared drive on the

ultra-cheap asterisk box -> sorta OT, more a bout Dell
FWIW: I order a lot of Dells. My boss is cheap. That being said, I *like* Dell, it's a very well designed box. It's been said many times that Dell does not innovate, instead they copy and improve and I firmly agree with the "improve" part - they are a dream to work on. Some things to watch out for with Dell: 1. They typically tack on a shipping charge of $139 Cdn (yes they

Non-default build options
Hi! I am a current maintainer of the R slackbuild script (for Slackware GNU/Linux distribution). I received requests from users to build R with --enable-R-shlib and --enable-BLAS-shlib, so now I am trying to decide whether to do so by default. Is there a downside to building R with either option? -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Name: signature.asc

Postfix and choice of RBL
Hi, I'm managing several mail servers running CentOS 7, Postfix and Dovecot. SpamAssassin is filtering mail nicely, but I'm considering using RBL (blacklists) to take some load off the servers. General question to those of you who use RBL. Which lists do you recommend using? Cheers, Niki -- Microlinux - Solutions informatiques durables 7, place de l'?glise - 30730 Montpezat Site :

dell sc420 connect to LCD 32" at 1366x768
Hi, I am attempting to connect my dell SC420 to a 32" LCD at 1366x768. I have attached my currect config file and currect X start log. How do I massage the xorf file to run at the native resolution of the LCD? It currently runs but is in a virtual mode. The screen scrolls. Any help is appreciated. I am using Centos 4.1. Suddenly a Blank Page
This is apache/fcgi/rails/firefox. When using a rails app we have been experiencing sudden blank pages in the browser. We show an model "new object" page and start changing stuff and all of a sudden the page will be erased to blank! Any idea what could cause something like this? -- Posted with http://DevLists.com. Restoring data from disk w/ messed up partition tables
I had the electricity go out the other day. When my Centos 4.3 workstation came up, I said yes when it got to the prompt "Unclean shutdown, force filesystem check?" prompt. It ground away for awhile and then said something about a bad superblock. Yikes! I thought, that's a bad sign. After a reboot, I got nothing but a grub> prompt. I tried booting into rescue mode using the

[PATCH mesa 1/3] nv30: Fix max width / height checks in nv30 sifm code
The sifm object has a limit of 1024x1024 for its input size and 2048x2048 for its output. The code checking this was trying to be clever resulting in it seeing a surface of e.g 1024x256 being outside of the input size limit. This commit fixes this. Tag for using git describe on master
As first discussed in the giant "New LLVM git repository conversion prototype" thread, I've pushed a git tag that allows git-describe to be used for generating human readable commit names on master. The tag is "llvmorg-10-init", to be interpreted as "the initial commit with major version number 10". The idea is to add similar tags along with future version bumps.

GlusterFS as virtual machine storage
Sorry, I did not start the glusterfsd on the node I was shutting yesterday and now killed another one during FUSE test, so it had to crash immediately (only one of three nodes were actually up). This definitely happened for the first time (only one node had been killed yesterday). Using FUSE seems to be OK with replica 3. So this can be gfapi related or maybe rather libvirt related. I tried

For Whom the Gaza Bell Tolls -- Part 1 By Edmund Connelly for The Occidental Observer January 16, 2008 ?The Israelis can kill whomever they want whenever they want.? --Paul Craig Roberts I sometimes think that it?s pointless for Americans to talk much about recent events in Gaza because we know how it will play out ? America will do absolutely nothing to interfere with the ongoing massacre.
