[OT] Witty one liners or computer related proverbs
Dear All, I need some witty computer related proverbs or one liners that some of have used in the past as footers for your emails for example. I particularly remember a PERL based transliteration joke/footer that when run in PERL produces a witty output.... This is to fix a problem internally created by an over zealous salesman at my company pinning up A4 sheets with bullSh*t sales proverbs

vfs_recycle disables permissions inheritance on AD DC shares
Apologies if this is a documented feature and I missed it - I've been googling and reading through the docs but haven't spotted any mention anywhere. Is the vfs_recycle feature officially being supported with Samba in AD mode? I have a few AD DC's with file shares on them - and have been struggling with file permissions not being inherited on the file shares. I have finally

I can't compile R-alpha on AMD 64. Rather than include a 1400 line script I have put it on the web http://www.stat.umn.edu/~charlie/typescript.txt way down near the bottom it fails building lapack.so gcc -shared -L/usr/local/lib64 -o lapack.so Lapack.lo -llapack -lblas -lg2c -lm -lgcc_s /usr/lib64/gcc-lib/x86_64-suse-linux/3.3.5/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld:

fast parallel crawling of file systems
Hi, I use a disk space inventory tool called TreeSizePro to scan file filesystems on windows and linux boxes. On Linux systems I export these shares via samba to scan them. TreeSizePro is multi-threaded (32 crawlers) and I run it on windows 7. I am scanning file systems that are local to the linux servers and also nfs mounts that are re-exported via samba. If I scan a windows 2008 server I can

NLME 3 (R version) again!
Hi, Well after trying to fix the assign commands in version 3.1.7 of your nlme package I still cannot get the plot functions to work. Basically I have no other packages installed (apart from those provided with R) so nlme is the first. my R version info is; platform sparc-sun-solaris2.7 arch sparc os solaris2.7 system sparc, solaris2.7 status

Budgetone + remote call pickup
Hi. I've found a problem when I pickup a remote sip phone with *8. There're both budgetones 102 and are both in the same group. When one sip phone is ringing, I can pickup the call from another sip phone, but the first one keeps playing a loud busy signal... that don't go away until I receive another call or go off hook and then on hook on the first phone. I think that could be a

Problems with smbpasswd
I've compiled the latest version of samba (1.9.18p4) and set up password encryption (per instructions in the ENCRYPTIONS.txt file). Setting root's smbpasswd worked with no problems. I set another user (me) with an smbpasswd. Tried "smbclient -L '\\hostname\wwinzer'". The output is the following: 68 wwinzer@Sun-E3000:~ ==> smbclient '\\champusa.com\wwinzer'

I never made any assumption athat anyone had any obligation to do anything
I just asked a question. If I was too vague, then i am sorry. I dont expect anyone to help me, but I thought that it was ok to put the question out there in case someone wanted to help me. I didnt expect abject hostility for it. Human decency was the only thing I did expect. If my question was a pain, badly formatted, or too juvinile, then i have no problem being ignored.I asked a question

WinXP Client with Samba 2.2.3a PDC
I am having trouble with everything *except* joining the client to the domain. WinXP Pro clients join the domain via the Samba-PDC howto, all works well. Trying to browse other domain resources or attempts to logon via the "domain" bring up this error in log.smbd: [2002/03/14 01:14:36, 0] rpc_server/srv_samr.c:api_samr_set_userinfo(670) api_samr_set_userinfo: Unable to unmarshall
